I'm going to go on record that firing Green would be a totally stupid move at this point.

Let's be logical about this.

The team does quit on the new guy, hello? What's bad about that?

They already have quit on DG.

Plus you get the earliest possible jump on the recruiting pool. That and the best possible draft choice.

There's very little downside to firing Green right now.

I see a team that quits when the wind blows, I don't think it could be any worse.

Put his butt in the front office and let him handle the drafting. That seems to be the only thing he's good at.

After watching Rolle today and JJ I would not be so quick to say he is a drafting genius. He may have fired more good players than he has drafted.

For better or worse we have Green. His decisions won't be 100% right - nobody's will - and we've had some bad luck. Has he shown anything to indicate that he's just riding us for the cash? We need to have the patience to put something in place and get some consistency. We're bad now, but not consistently so, and we have some talent. How many times have we decried management for not sticking with a program, coaches for not sticking with the run, etc.? Let's not get reactionary just because we want to puke.

Partner I have had over 55 years of patience and time is running out on me. This team is poorly coached and there is no doubt about it. Green is the head coach and it falls on his head. He should fire himself!!!

that said, if this team doesn't win 7 games Green should be fired, we won 6 last year and supposedly improved the team.

My concern now is that some of the key guys we may have hired instead of Green (Johnson from Philly, Heimerdinger etc) are all either moved on, or probably won't now be interested because we bypassed them for Green.

That said, there is enough talent here a good coach might be lured in thinking I can win quickly if I just fix a few things.

I'll give him the season but after that if we're not vastly improved he's gotta go, and Graves too.

Won't happen. I doubt they are going to pay Denny his salary AND pay a new head coach. Not the Bidwills.

They have their stadium and really don't care if they win or not, they get their "revenue streams" to pad their pockets even more. They won't waste it on paying 2 hefty paychecks for the old and new head coach. Won't happen.

As for Johnson and Fassel, one is old and has not been head coach and one had his run in New York and was canned. I wouldn't bank on either of them being any better here than Denny. No real reason to think so IMO.

The issue is the Bidwills history of futility. Why think that all of the sudden it is going to change? Michael Bidwill is no better than his father, he just talks to the media and his dad never has. He is a shyster and an egomaniac who has no more clue about football than dear old dad.

Root for the Cards and this is what you get. Remember, they have only had 2 non-losing seasons in the years since they carpetbagged their way into town. I would say that that makes the 8-8 under Buddy his first year and the playoff year flukes. The norm for this team is the 4 to 6 win seasons if you want to honestly appraise the history.

So, this season so far, is SNAFU as far as the Cardinals go. Having been a fan for about 38 years or so all I can do is fondly remember the "Air Coryell" days. Those were the last years the Cards won much at all.

Just my 2 cents :)

p.s.-All that being said, I still think this team could end up 7-9. It's not impossible :) And NO I am not drunk, I am serious. It could happen...

I'd prefer to wait until week 8 to see how the team is gelling before giving any serious thought or replacing the Denny Green.

After all, we are 0-3, which means this is still your dad's CARDINALS..........lol

Russ:

Isn't that what Dennis Green claimed when he arrived in Arizona?

Denny gets three years, IMO. By the end of that three years, if we are not a playoff team, he's gone. Firing him now would devastate this team and nobody would want to come coach here...at least nobody we'd want.

On the NFL channel Denny said it is impossible for anyone to be angrier or more disappointed than he was in the teams play today.

He was wrong, he has only been a Cardinal fan for 2 years.

I think you are right, but the team will have to play better over the course of the year. It got bad enough with Buddy that he was fired after just two, so there is some precedent. Although, this is still nowhere near the level of incompetent debauchery of the Ryan regime.

But, we still have time this year.

I think firing Green now would be a mistake because the team may quit on whoever gets the job.

I also think it'd be letting Green off easy, this is his mess and he's got to fix it or go down with the ship, don't give him a liferaft and let him leave.

It's his fault the OL is worse, it's his fault the QB situation has no viable QB of the future.

And to be fair to Green he deserves more than 19 games to put in his program, but so far this year is a disaster.

OK. Russ get the "first voice of reason" mark. Green should get his three years. Seriously.

I also think that at this point in the process...Green is behind schedule with a SERIOUS problem in his OL. It will take some very clever move to fix that before the 2006 season.

The ghost of Pete Kendall is starting to haunt me...

hmmm....

The logic that it would be easy to get another coach thinking he could win quicker with the talent we have is moronic considering Green assembled the talent.

I am very unhappy with Green right now, but he took over a crap team and is trying to make it better. I believe we have many players on this team that are good for our future.

We need better Offensive staff, but I think firing Green now would be a huge mistake. I have started calling him Buddy Green because of this year, but I still have a faint hope that next year will be the year that decides where we are and will be.

Part of the problem with this francise is the fact that we have average a new head coach every 2.5-3 years. That type of turnover is part of the problem of why this franchise cannot get out of its rutt.

I have to admit that right now--at this very moment--firing Green sounds okay, but that is based purely on emotion. We have to give him next season(year 3 is always the make or break season IMO) to determine if his tenure he is indeed a failure.

What concerns me is an apparent lack of ability to bounce back from adversity. Where is the fire and never say die attitude that conviced Chike Okeafor to sign here?

One little thing goes wrong and this team suddenly puts up a mental block and starts looking for mommy.

Not really. There are other coaches that could assemble talent. But could most certainly coach it better.

Can I , officially, be removed from the ASFN Poop List for being so adamantly against Green during his pre and post hiring discussions. These nails in my palms and feet are really getting old. :D

P.S. I , in a curious way, wonder what Vikes Fan would say.

When the question was asked..."who is the most over rated Cardinal?" I said Dennis Green...took some poop for that....My choice has not changed.

Ditka or Fassel...

Who cares... someone who has thw ability to actually MANAGE a team and not someone who has the ability to create an environment all about HIM and who has the ability to actually create a TEAM!

18 years of this and THIS YEAR actually brings the most DISAPPOINTMENT. What happened to our defensive intensity? What the F*** is Everett Lindsay still doing here after SEVEN straight games of FAILURE? and HOW is this going to generate interest for the 2006 season...Maybe we should ask Koetter to provide some of his redshirters for some Sunday help!

On the up side, I should be able to a good seat in the new stadium!!
As for Green, he needs to stay and go down with the Shipp, pun intended. He can then join Buddy on the horse farm of disgrace at the end of the season.
