However---this just gets me thinking---why spend all that money on Cousins if you can trade up and take QB Baker Mayfield, who may wind up being even more accurate and dynamic.

Badda Bing. Use $$ and get the OL right and tight. Develop a QB. Oakland sits at 9. There will be some options there.

Bring in a Keenum or retain Stanton for the transition. Both can manage an offense. But don't give up draft picks for someone either.

Will be better defensively next year and should be running the rock.

For a sucky ass team
That's Big Puss numbers right there
Bring that Puss to Az!

I just don't know if he is a big puss. The league is full of pusses but only a few get selected every year to the Puss Bowl on merit

I am guessing Tyrod Taylor and Lamar Jackson.
I am on board with this, by the time Taylor's contract is up Jackson maybe ready or if Taylor proves his worth then having Jackson as a back up wouldn't be so bad (having to capable QBs if he develops).

Meh. Lamar Jackson > Baker Mayfield, IMHO.

I missed this until it was quoted by BIM.

Because you can't guarantee that you'll be able to trade up for Mayfield. It's more than just a gamble, it's going all-in before the flop against players with more chips. You're counting on someone else to be willing to play the game, and you've given up your chance against the rest of the table. You have no real idea if you're going to get the asset you want, and even less of a chance that the asset you want is going to pan out.

Mayfield hasn't played a snap in this league. Cousins has played in the top 10 statistically for three years, and has proven he can at least do that.

Cousins tends to suck in the red zone when he runs out of space but he'll have David Johnson... all he has to do is get us close to unleash 'the humble rumble', but Alex Smith is cheaper and can do that too

I won't riot in the streets if we end up making moves for Alex Smith, but that guy has had Frank Gore, Jamaal Charles, and Kareem Hunt, but can't make a team win. He's had top 5 defenses and running games, but can't pull it off. Yet he's just as good as Cousins? Ridiculous.

No, he is better than Cousins

This topic again huh? Lmao.

Cousins is better than any of the top 3 QBs taken this year, and they may never touch him. Maybe there’s some surprise 4th rounder this draft that turns into the next Wilson, but I’d bet not.

You take Cousins and you lock him up as soon as you can. QBs like this don’t hit free agency often, and the reason he’s not already locked up is because the redskins are run like a dumpster fire, the same reason he hasn’t “won” there.

@DVontel There’s no way you can look at Lamar Jackson’s college tape and think he’ll have a better career than Cousins.
I actually can. Why can’t I? Did you know that Cousins was going to stick in this league once he was drafted?

I also can think that Rosen, Darnold, & Mayfield will have better careers. I think they will, easily, too.

You guys can fawn over the subpar-ness that is Kirk Cousins, but I won’t.

Yeah, those initial five sub-3,000 yard seasons with sub-15 TD passes are real convincing. And that he's never thrown for more yards than Cousins as a starter. And only once, more TDs... with 7 more years as a starter to do it. I also forgot all of those years that Cousins got benched for Shaun Hill and Colin Kaepernick.

There is basically no evidence that Alex Smith is better.

No, but we can say that he has been a statistical top-ten starter as a QB for every year that he's started, and that we have no evidence that any of those guys will be top ten statistically. In fact, we'd be jumping up and down if we drafted one of these guys and they had Kirk Cousins numbers.

Haha, good enough for me.

I like Cousins. I don't think I want to pay him what he's going to get... but I also can't stand the posters who say "just trade up," or (sorry...) "Alex Smith is better." (When considering the relative price.)

I'll take Alex Smith, if he's sub-$20 million, and requires no more than a 5th rounder to acquire. And that we get him for no more than two years without a lot of dead cap, and get a rookie (that we don't trade the farm for). Otherwise I'm just as happy with Bridgewater, Bradford, or Taylor for our purposes.

I'd rather have any of these guys over Cousins & there's a lot of other guys beyond that... Dalton, Flacco, Deshaun Watson, Mahommes, Bridgewater, Bradford, etc

Unfortunately, only a few of those guys will be available this offseason. I'd rather have Alex Smith or whatever Minnesota QB doesn't get resigned. It would be pretty messed up though for Alex Smith to get replaced in KC by Mahommes & then come to the Cardinals who also draft a 1st Rd QB (Mayfield or Jackson) that they expect to start in 2019.
I will politely disagree with your assessment. And of all the qb's on your list not 1 is available without a trade. Also we are talking about the QBOTF. Throw out Brady,Rodgers and Brees. They are the best. Roth is ready to hang them up and so is Rivers. WHAT THE HELL HAS WINSTON DONE? Or Prescott? Or Stafford who hasn't won a playoff game in his life? Goff 1 Year wonder? I'm not saying we should sign Cousins but at least give the guy a little credit.
