That's because you hook yourself out on the side, isn't it? Overtime pay my ass...well, your ass!

.07% :(

:lmao:

Yea I work one overtime shift a week. Minus the weeks it doesnt fall to me in the rotation and the weeks I take vacation. The occasional week or two I just dont feel like doing it.

.04 was with wifes income added as well. Im hoping like hell she gets this job shes applying for in the county. She would go from 36,000 to 50,000 right off the bat with a top out of 79,000 instead of her current top out of 47,000.

I would love to add my wife's income as well. Thing is, she ain't got one. So, I guess I technically did.

Your wife will get county retirement pay then too from that job? All you state/city/fed employees and your glorious pensions and retirements. :mulli:

Yea she has already been with the county for 6 years. This job would just be a big pay increase as you can see.

By the time I am ready to retire I will have a 25 year police/fire retirement which works out to 2.68% per year for every year worked (67%) plus the 15% kicker we have in our contract. So I will retire with about 75% of my salary from age 48 till I die. We get a 3% COLA on our retirement every year after retirement from year 3 on.

She will have 20 years in the civilian retirement plan at 2.5% a year. Which is 50% however she cant collect until shes 60 without a penalty. So she will have to keep woking probably two more years for a total of 22 and 55% but we probably wont collect until shes 58 and take a small penalty.

Its nice knowing you will have that income steady for the rest of your life. I am a firm believer in working for any form of govt. albeit city/state/county.

Thats not even counting our deferred compensation plans and other investments we will have.

Both my mom and dad worked for the state. When my dad retired, he had an Air Force pension (22 years) an AZ state pension and his SS. He was making almost the same amount of money retired as he was working. Ridiculous.

I need to get me a government job.

I used to have a government job but I quit it about 7-8 years ago. I like my current career so much better than being a mail carrier, though. I'm still going to have a great retirement.

Thats great for your dad. You do too. Preferably in a state that you dont pay into your retirement. The great thing about NV is that neither myself or my wife pay a dime into our pers system. The state pays it all for you!

Okay, the results are in. For flavor, Trader Joe's was better...far sweeter. For crispness, shockingly, the canned was the winner. Although I liked TJ's better, it's not so phenomenally good that I will go out of my way to buy it. The canned still tastes like...CORN!!

Sara voted for the canned...because it was obvious to her which was TJ's & she didn't want to vote for the evil TJ's (kind of like if it were down to Hillary & McCain...she'd vote Hillary in secret, but say she wrote in Obama...or something like that).

Ashley (15 year old) admitted that TJ's was better. She thought the canned was "fine" though. She said the canned was "crunchier". Overall, though, she said she would ultimately prefer the canned because TJ's was too sweet to have all the time.

I will take that as a win for TJ's.

It's by far the best frozen corn I've ever had.

And BTW, my big secret is...

I prefer canned corn to most frozen corns...most of them have no flavor. But I grew up eating canned corn. :p I haven't had it since college, though.

But nothing touches corn on the cob. When we lived in Nebraska, we had a big cornfield and fresh corn all the time. Some of my earliest memories are of shucking corn. Fresh corn on the cob is one of my most favorite things. TJ's is close to fresh from the cob, and that's why I love it so much.

You should also try the Soycutash from TJ's...it's pretty awesome stuff too.

What was the cost of the bag?
$1.69.

I will say that fresh is THE way to go. My dad had a fairly extensive garden in our backyard in Pennsylvania, and we would have corn-a-plenty. I just didn't care for the lack of crispness of TJ's. I may have cooked it too long, though, I dunno. I was really irritated that it had NO directions of any kind on it.

I'm assuming you cooked it too long, if it wasn't crisp. It's always crisp for us. Only needs to cook for a few minutes. Basically, bring the water to a boil, add the corn and when it starts to boil again, turn it off and drain.

Buck sixty-nine, huh? Better than I thought!

Sea Salt is good for finishing, but not for cooking with..... I digress. Fine grain sea salt is great for cooing with, but is cost prohibitive when working in these quantities, like salting water for cooking. Coarse sea salt, is too coarse fr my taste, but flavor wise youre right. Good stuff.

I like nice finishing salts for my cooking as well. Maldon sea salt is out of his world, as is Fleur de Sel. Check em out.

pfft. Snobs. It's CORN!!

If I were eating canned asparagus or something, I would understand. And I do agree fresh is WAY better. But it's corn, and we have a budget...and 5 kids to feed now.

Frozen is generally chaper in quantity, and a lot of times, frozen veg tastes better than fresh, re: the seasonality thing an all. Im almost GLAD you dont eat frsh corn in the winter. Aside form the cost, environmentally speaking, eating food thats grown thousands of miles away, out of season is a big problem.

Now THATS snobby. But important...

I use canne corn for one reason... CORN PUDDING! Mmmmmmmm

"What are you doing, Linder?"
I've been waiting for you to chime in. :D

I felt kinda silly saying it had no directions...I mean, how hard is it to heat up? But seriously, I didn't know how much water to use (Again, I may have used too much) or for how long. It's not like it's hard to print it on the bag somewhere.

I gave you cooking instructions Linder. :|

The amount of water is fairly irrelevant overall. Boil the water, add the corn, when it starts boiling again, turn it off and remove from heat. Drain and serve.
