There is one thing I know I won't have to deal with next year... "Why the heck are we letting Jones run with the ball!!(!@)&$&@)$^)??"

Woo hoo! If anything, this season is already better than last because I don't have to watch dancer Thomas Jones.

Once again.... Injuries valid for Blake, but not for Boston.

I've never seen you mention that DB has had two tears in his right petella tendon, and arthritis to boot.

As per Plummers work habits? The guy did more for the community than any other single player in AZ history(save a couple). He loved the fans(save a frustrated "rat" remark that clearly speaks of his sensitivity and self-disappointment moreso than vehement anger directed at the loyal(oh, wait, not so much) faithful who rooted for him.

Anyone think we could have made the playoffs with Jeff Blake all the years Plummer didnt get there for us? Would Blake have got there in '98?

Seriously, the guy was great, and we all loved him at one point.

What does working in the community have to do with game day, and pre-game day preparation? NOTHING.

And yes, I think MANY Qbs including Blake could've gotten us to the playoffs in 98. Jake was FAR from great in 98. He was merely average at best, and at times was awful.

Jake was NEVER great. Maybe, rarely, he was good. Typically average, and a good bit of the time, terrible.

I'm venting

OK, so our QB situation is questionable(although I do like Blake) but I haven't seen anyone in this thread mention that WE HAVE NO PROVEN WIDE RECEIVERS!! They are essentially all rookies with less than 1000 yards receiving and 5 TDs between them. Doesn't matter if Blake is as good, better or ??? If he doesn't have a go to guy it won't make a difference. We need a veteran WR signed by camp. Emmitt could be our leading receiver this year. Graves waiting on Robinson pi$$ed me off. He said he wouldn't have gone on any other visits if the Cards made an offer. He could have been a great leader here but is now in Baltimore with Frank. The Cards have been in re-building mode for how many years in a row now? When will it end? When will impact free agents seriously look at the Cardinals as something other than a negotiating tool? When will we have our first round draft picks in camp participating???

Ok, I had to vent. I haven't had any true Cards fans to share my opinions with in a while and while my son listens, he is only 5. Thanks!! Matt :p

I was just laughing to myself about how this turned into a PLummer vs. Blake thread when neither were mentioned in the post.4 words;quarterback is a wash, started all this. That's pretty funny.

Gone with youth at RB? By bringing in a, what 12 year veteran? Hmm, I know I wasn;t always good at math but as I see it the average age at RB went up with Smith's signing.

Yeah, way to turn off the irony radar pal. I was obviously(though you'd argue otherwise) just trying to point out how there is one less reason to be optimistic about the upcoming season and the future in general.

So you deem it a ******* comment? I deem you a lame ass perceiver. Kinda like Solliday, minus the 'p' and invert the initial 'e' and 'r'.....oh god, forget it, I can't turn that into a quick slam after all.

Seriously though, do you think LARRY SANDERS was a REAL talk show host?

Shane, I am on the positive side of lukewarm about Frank Sanders because, honestly, he isn't very good. He's all right, but he wouldn't be able to start on probably three-quarters of the teams in this league. I can't really get behind a guy with mediocre talent 100%, especially when he's on another team.

Simeon is good. He was the legitimate Super Bowl MVP (Dex is the George W. Bush of Super Bowl MVPs). He rocked this team when he was here, and was the component of the D (along with Aeneas) that other teams had to worry about all the time, from Tuesday when they're game planning until Sunday in the fourth quarter. He was consistent and honest about his beliefs. I don't care whether or not he thinks that Tillman saw Rambo too many times, but I know he's right when he says that Pat isn't an NFL-quality safety. That might not sit well on this board, but it's the truth. Do you think the Rams would have rather had Tillman than Archuleta? I don't.

Sec, DB had an injury at the start of the 2002 season, and tried to play through it. That's grit. I sincerely doubt that it will be a continuing condition, and none of the reports that I read prior to the season suggested that. One season on injury, attempted to play through, is not as much a concern to me as not playing 16 games since 1996.

Happy, I share your concern about our highly questionable WR corps. The fact that they seem to be addressing the wideout problem the same way that they tried to address the pass rush problem (Well, we have a bunch of them; we'll throw them all out there at once and maybe some of them will turn into Terrell Owens or Marvin Harrison [or Simeon Rice or Michael Strahan]) doesn't seem to be a strategy for success, but this is the way that the franchise has approached the issue. I'm sure that Blake will be a fine caretaker QB, but I hope that the lack of any known quality at WR and apparently a total lack of chemistry among the passing offense (from what I take from the Republic articles about the minicamps) doesn't lead to Blake's worst performances to date.

I seem to remember something different. I remember teams gameplanning AGAINST Simeon, running directly at him. Cards insiders say that Simeon totally disregarded the rest of the defense to get his sacks. Simeon, at one point WAS the weakest link on our defense since teams could run right at him.

I agree about Tillman, though I think that Archuleta isn't that much better than him. The Rams wouldn't have drafted Archuleta if they could've signed Tillman to the ridiculous contract that they had offered.

Grit....how bout' payday. Boston wanted his big pay day, so he had to play through it. It is laughable that you would even say grit for Boston...you almost make him sound like a team player instead of a team cancer

Seriously, I think some on this board think we will have a great season, and that won't happen. The Cards actually have a solid plan for addressing the pass rush and wideouts: youth and numbers. One or two of the WR or DE/DT/LB will pan out.

Blake's numbers shouldn't be that bad considering he had a pretty bad corp of receivers last year. His top wideout was Travis Taylor, who is only a good receiver, but hardly great. Blake luckily has a decent tight end to lean on, and speed at wideout.

I think we will have a 5-11 season again, but the team will improve. A pass rusher will step up, and a receiver will, and at the end of the year, the future will look brighter.

Krang, I think we see eye to eye on a lot of issues, but our value opinions on a couple people about which we are passionate (DB, Plummer, TJ, Simeon) spin the rest of our posts in a different direction. You have your views on past players, and I have mine, and I think we both have valid arguements. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

You think the plan is "solid." I think the plan is "risky". Time will tell, and we'll see if we're drafting more WRs next year or a pass-rushing specialist, or maybe the QB of the future.

At least we're both skeptical about the Card's fortune's this season. Really, the best I'm looking forward to with out personnel is a 5-11 season, and no more than 4 or 5 25-point blowouts. Personnally, I'm expecting more along the lines of a 3-13 season, but I'd manage to survive that if we're competitive in 8-10 of those losses, kind of like the Lions and Pathers were the last couple years. I don't foresee a 2002 Ravens-type performance, where the team defies expectations for a season, staying in contention until the bitter end.

Oh I do think we agree a lot, even though we view things a little differently, especially as you said, on certain values.

I think what we are doing with the D-lineman and Wide receivers is actually smart in the long run. Sure we could've signed Robinson, but really, how would that help us in the long run? M-Rob has almost a better chance of getting injured and not helping us at all. He also only represesents a quick fix, that would hurt the development of young and talented wideouts, Bry-John and A-Bold :)D).

I can't see us being as bad as the Lions were (and basically still are). They were, position-by-position, worse than we are.
