Is Beanie the Cards version of McFadden?

McFadden ran well for the first few years, but the plays weren't drawn up to utilize his strengths and he had alot of carries given away to an inferior backs (like Fargas). The difference is that Wells is more injury prone. Time will tell, but one wonders why Beanie isn't being used more effectively. Especially when Hightower refuses to secure the ball with two hands while being tackled

McFadden gets hurt more than Beanie does, he's constantly got a tight hammy or a calf muscle problem. Even this year he got hurt.

AS a runner his problem was vision, he just ran straight ahead and tried outrun people or run through them, he's more patient this year.

Beanie's got the vision and the patience, just needs to learn to not go down when people get to his feet, he has to step through or over some hits.

It took DM 3 seasons to have the 'lights turn on" and I can't help but feel that Beanie is following in the same path.

I just hope the team does not give up on BW, for I still believe he will be a very, very good RB in this league...

Beanie is no Darren McFadden. Darren would easily out run Beanie and has moves Beanie could only dream about. Darren ran for 165 yards this past week playing on what was supposed to be a very weak Oakland team. I think DMac will eventually be an all-star. A 225 lb 4.4 RB with dynamic moves. He was all everything in the SEC for 4 years and it is going to show in the NFL before it is all over.

YPC between the 2 is skewed by the NO game where they were playing 8 and even 9 in the box and Beanie got 20 carries for only 35 yards. THT had 4 carries for 6 yards. So Beanie got the bulk of the carries in a game where neither could run.

Take out the NO game from both guys and Beanie averages 4.5 YPC .THT's average goes up slightly too, to 6.1 YPC. So THT still looks better on YPC but you can see Beanie's stats are really skewed by having 40% of his carries in a game where we saw the box stacked the whole game.

When Seattle stacked the box we could still run because they had so many DB's in the game. THT was terrific save the fumble, but Beanie was pretty darn impressive too. We should have ran the ball more.

This week I read where Whiz said Beanie was not at full strength and still has concerns about him holding on to the ball. When a player gets that reputation other teams make even more efforts to take away the ball and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Our two big RBs have the abilities to make big yardage if they could only hold on to the ball. A guy who fumbles a lot will soon be on the bench and for good reason. I almost cried when Hightower lost that ball Sunday after a strong run. One can only imagine what the other players think and how it effected their play. I bet we lead the league in lost balls or are close. We were at one time leading in penalties.

That argument is beyond weak Russ.

As long as they don't kick Beanie to the curb like Garrison Hearst and Thomas Jones, I'll be happy.

Tony Romo disagrees

I just watched the replay of Romo's injury. I didn't see any RB miss a block on Boley so what are you talking about? Gronkowski the Full Back who IS supposed to be selected for his blocking skills? He was the only back even remotely close to Boley. Jones had immediately released into a pass route on the other side of the field.

One of the things that does help the Cards offense is that opposing defenses expect the Cards to run when Wells is in the game and throw with TH. So they get big pass plays against run packages like the 29 yard throw that came right after a 10 yard run by Beanie and TH gets the opportunity for long runs against pass packages.

As does Alex Smith. Got killed with Anthony Dixon blocking instead of Frank Gore.

So what? Our QBs get killed no matter who is blocking.

EDIT: You have it backwards. Anthony Dixon is not a better runner than Frank Gore.

Steve Young also disagrees. ;)

THT made his big runs against Seattle's base 43 defense.

So what? That doesn't mean that TH doesn't have the opportunity to break long runs against pass packages.

Also since they were wrong about Romo's injury being a result of a back missing a block can you provide a link to a video of Steve Young being injured solely because a RB, who was in the game because he was a better runner than another back on the team who was a better pass blocker, missed a block in pass protection?

No it's not, 40% of Beanie's carries were in that one game where the team averaged under 2 YPC because of the way NO defended us.

IF THT had got 20 carries and Beanie 4, THT wouldn't have a 5.7 YPC.

He's still got a higher YPC than Beanie, but the overall YPC for Beanie is misleading because of that one game. Wells' overall average is 3.5, yet he's been above that number in 3 of his 4 games, the only one he wasn't was the NO game but he had 20 of his 53 carries in that game.

If you look both guys have been pretty consistent, and Tim has been better, but they both did nothing against NO.

Tim has outplayed Beanie so far this year, but Tim has 3 fumbles and we've lost all 3, Beanie has 1, and we didn't lose it. That's why Beanie is getting more carries the last 2 games, he's been better with his ball security.

Tim is a very good player, but if he can't stop fumbling, he's going to lose his job to Beanie. He now has 10 fumbles in his short NFL career, if Adrian Peterson can lose carries because of fumbling, anybody can.

.

it was a rookie FB -- Gronkowski?-- anyway, he didn't recognize Boley's blitz and released.

bumbles

Beanie lost 2 in 179 carries last year, his highest energy was retrieving his, Kurts and Matts bumbles.

But still Beanie has only lost 2 fumbles in 200+ carries. and thats all I ever hear about? never mind it takes 5 to tackle him 50% of the time and he puts a lick on all 5 before He goess down.

the best of beanie is still on the pine,as Whiz calls plays.

FWIW they said on both ESPN and NFL net that Gronkowski was supposed to block Boley. He went outside, Boley went inside and nailed Romo. Don't know if they got that from Dallas or just their own opinion but on both networks showing that play they said Gronkowski was supposed to pick up the free blitzer but he guessed incorrectly where Boley was going.

So it is irrelevant because Gronkowski is a FB who definitely is not in the game because he is a better runner than pass blocker. No different than if the Left Tackle had missed his block.

I thought the point was rookie RB's get QB's injured if they can't block?

At least that's why Romo's name originally came up in the thread.

I agree with you by the way, you should pick the RB by who is the better runner not blocker. The only reason that's an issue with us is that Whiz is still throwing too much.

Beanie has improved his pass blocking anyways.

It appears to be kind of a moot point now, Beanie has gotten the most carries 2 games in a row and after the latest fumble by THT, I don't see that changing in the near future.

No the point was picking RBs based on running ability vs pass protection ability.

It really doesn't matter who carries the rock as long as one or both of them get 13+ carries every game. I've already posted the stats on that. 8-0 when TH gets 13 or more carries. 10-2 when Wells gets 13 or more.

Incredible really when you consider the offense the Cards play.

McFadden has a lot more speed than Beenie and can make cuts on a dime. He is also a 230 lb guy who can also run over you. I think he ran for 155 last week. When he is healthy as he is now I would take him over Beenie any day. Beenie looked very good last week and I think played his best game ever as a Card. Just keep it up my man.

Do you think when your team is consistently losing that as a player you tend to not play as hard unless it is your contract season? Why risk great injury under these circumstances. Yeah I know you get paid a lot yada yada but the reality is you want to live to play another day and for a team that has a chance to win at least a playoff spot. If this is the case then losing feeds upon itself. Some players who did not play well with us went on to be really fine players after going to other teams ala Thomas Jones and a host of others.

I know I sure get tired of losing losing losing-------------with no end in sight. The one common denominator this team has always had is ownership. I think Harry Truman was right with that sign on his desk "The Buck Stops Here".
