Is it really going to be a struggle to Keep Q and Fitz longterm?

Juggling act

Larry Fitzgerald's four-year, $40 million extension has led to questions about the Cardinals' ability to keep their all-star receiving duo together for the long term. Pro Bowl receiver Anquan Boldin has three years remaining on the six-year, $23 million contract extension he signed in 2005, but Fitzgerald's deal creates such a huge disparity in pay between the two standouts that Boldin's contract will need to be addressed in the near future.

However, several league officials believe that the Cardinals will be able to keep both stars happy while fielding a competitive team. When asked about having money tied up to multiple players at the receiver position, one front office executive said, "You can do it with two, but you must draft around those guys. ... If you tie your money up at receiver, your running back, quarterback and top offensive linemen must come through the draft."

By correctly identifying the starters through the draft, the Cardinals will be able to use a cheaper economic model to build their offense. The Indianapolis Colts mastered this strategy and have been able to keep their offensive nucleus together for years by wisely spending their cap money while adding quality young players through the draft. If the Cardinals can make good decisions with their draft picks, they should be able to keep both of their Pro Bowl receivers together for a long time while building a competitive team.

That's a big if there if I've ever seen one.

If Boldin is smart he would cash in, there is no way his agent isn't pushing for a Fitz like deal, his is vastly underpaid.

Boldin's fair market is like 5 years 25 million gauranteed.

So are you saying he will take about 5-10 millions less than Fitz being the #1 WR? crazy

No, he'll take more money in the end, but it isn't going to be an issue. He's as close to "Mr. Cardinal" as we are ever going to get.

Oh, and we'll be drafting our future RB in this draft, btw, so when you look at edge you'll see some of the $ that will be going Q's way.

We are not doomed or screwed. Anquan is under contract for three more years. He is the face of this team and is classy guy. He will get his money.

No. No problem at all. Q is a different kind of dude.

I totally agree with you...!!! We are not screwed or doomed like others have posted on this thread. The organization finally is really tired of losing. The Fitz contract proves that. They finally are paying their gifted players like other good teams do by paying the gifted ones what they are really worth, letting the marginal ones go as they please. For the first time they finally get it. The Fitz contract handling should show to the other players on this team and around this league that if you play up to and exceed your potential this organization will finally pay you what you are really worth and if you don not you will be let to go your own way. i.e. Calvin Pace, B. Johnson.

I think that they learned this by letting "BIG" go last year and seeing him make the pro-bowl at guard for the Cowboys. Now let us hope that Rolle will do the same by staying here and by moving to safety his god given position.

That's according to you man. The whole world out there still think Q is the better WR. Can I post a link in here to prove that?

Welcome back Golytly. How about that Bryant Johnson signing by the Niners? Is it a good one, from your perspective (as a Cards fan, of course)?

Fitz and Boldin can fit with there cap figures. I have been doing some percentages for teams and here they are. for this year our cap is set at 116 Million.

Offense: 55.5%
3 QB - 10% 11.6M
5-6 WR -15.5% 17.98M
5 RB/FB - 10% 11.6 M
3 TE - 3% 3.48M
8-9 OL - 17% 19.72M
Total: 64.38 Million

Defense:44.5%
6 DL - 12% 13.92M
7-8 LB - 15% 17.4M
8-9 DB - 16% 18.56M
3 ST - 1.5% 1.74M
Total: 51.62 Million

So almost 18 Mil to spend on WR's and they could fit in.

I think Boldin will sign a longer term deal than Fitz did. Extend him with 6-7 years total and he'll get a hefty bonus. Should fit o.k. with the cap. Q=Card for life!!!!

With his injury problems and the way he plays, I think you're right in that he'll sign a longer term deal. Fitz stands to get another huge payday whereas I don't think Q will. I love Q, but I don't think he will last as long as Fitz. Think about the receivers that had long careers, they didn't get hit. Marvin Harrison is the perfect example.

I disagree with this entire post.

It seems that you are very new to this forum. But I could be wrong. Here is a very short list of players that have left or that the Cardinal Organization has left to go with out much in return.

1. Free Safety MacDonald to the 49er's. ALL-Pro for many years here and at San Fran.
2. Derrik Kenard for a worthless Corner from the Saint. DK made many Pro-Bowls later with the Cowboys.
3. A Tight End who we let go to the Cowboys with nothing in return became Troys go to man. This tight end also became an All-Pro for many years.
4. Lenard Davis. T/G to the cowboys where last year he made Pro-Bowl.
5. Bobby Jackson better known as Amod Rasahad (sp). Trade to the Buffalo Bills back in the days of O.J.

I could go on and on about this organization. But now they start doing things to become a winner you complain.
