Is NBC it for the Vancouver Olympics?

Is network NBC really the only way to watch these games? I'm not seeing alternate channel listings on DirecTV so far, and that will be a serious problem for me.

They have 3 alternate channels on Dish Network. Would be surprised if Direct didn't have them as well.

The Olympics will be on all of NBC's channels which are NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Universal HD, and Universal Sports.

I feel your pain, zen. I avoid Costas as much as possible, too.

I actually don't mind Costas although the useless interviews are a pita -- it's the Nothing But Commercials, the replayed snippets of high-drama competitors vs. live unfolding action, and of course the dearth of curling and cross-country.

Thanks, guys -- I went to the DTV 'Sportsmix' channel and all it said was 'NBC' and I freaked.

It's all that A$FN dough making me giddy and lazy.

OK, it's not acceptable. The USA networks and NBC alt networks have even less coverage than NBC -- hockey games start to finish, but none of the interesting competitions. How can I access Canadian or international coverage online? I've heard there are restrictions to getting Canadian TV?

I'm no technophile, so can't speak to restrictions, etc. but, the host broadcaster up here is www.ctv.ca and programming is shared with www.tsn.ca and www.sportsnet.ca

I believe all of them would have some sort of live feeds through their sites.

Between the 3 we are getting complete coverage of all events.

Once we get mid-week the other NBC channels are going to be picking up coverage. Early in the games there aren't many viewer-driven sports going on. NBC will have some 800+ hours of television for these olympics. As far as I know they have shown everything on air so far. If you are wanting to see a specific countries team that isn't the US then you are out of luck.

You can't view country-specific copyrighted broadcasts on the web (legally). If you are in the U.S. and go to those sites, you will be blocked access. I learned this when I wanted to check out jPod on CBC, which had an agreement with NBC, but I still couldn't see the show from this side of the border.

Doesn't make sense to me. If anyone's going to have an open border around here it's going to be Canada/US, right? I've even pulled for Canada in some events!

I hear there are proxy server ways around that, Gadd.

It's partly interest in some non-US at times, and partly wanting to watch (LIVE) when I have time, not when they decide they'll put a summary of it on prime-time. If I have a few hours to do paperwork midday, I'd like to have the games on in the background.

Is it just me or does the dye job on Costas's hair look ridiculous?
The guy is starting to look like Dick Clark.

Dick Clark -- Wow. You're so right! I have to say -- Costas, Dick Fricken Buttons -- all the talking heads are REALLY REALLY OLD. It's like that awful Tim McCarver, talk about propping up the dead. Where are the new good sports announcers?

Well, I'm enjoying it ALL!

Sorry, that unlike a bright guy like you, we didn't think of inviting Mother Nature to do a run through of the Olympics before the opening.

Mary Carillo... I want to like her, but there is always something with her that seems to come up short. They set her up nicely. Put her in places to push out a very nice, compelling story/feature, but... I dunno... always seems to leave me feeling like what was produced could have been so much more.

Is it wrong to expect Canada, of all countries, to know how to use a Zamboni to prep the ice?? Still can't believe it took coaches from several countries to stop the ice racing due to the conditions of the ice!

And we don't need to bring up the mishap in the luge do we?? I mean, guys flying around at 100 MPH and it took a guy to die before they figured out it might be a good idea to place some padding over exposed STEEL beams??

1) They weren't Zamboni's they were new environmentally correct machines, and perhaps that was the problem. They've actually brought in a couple of Zamboni's to correct things. In the end, the racing continues, so much ado about nothing.

2) There were 5,000 runs down that track, which was designed by the international federations that use the track before the fatal "freak" incident. And, by the way, I;ve never known humans to put fences near cliffs until someone goes over. The truly unfortunate, in a sports sense, is the over reaction. Male athletes who have trained for years on the site, are now being asked to use the "women's tees" on the takeoff, and the women are now using a starting gate used by 14 year old juniors.

3) As for the weather: Its the warmest its been in 100 years. Its a battle but, in the end... they'll get it done.

3) I've attended the Olympics in Montreal, Lake Placid and Atlanta... and none are perfect, so I don't get particularly disturbed by the "glitches", and incidents. I don't dwell, for example, on a fatal bombing in Atlanta. I concentrate on the wonderful athletic competitions, and will, no doubt, take that away from this gathering.

Whatever... I just thought it was pretty poor that they couldn't get the ice conditioned properly... no biggie.

Yes, it's ridiculous that they were scared to the point of moving up the starting positions for both the men and women. However, it's not unreasonable to expect them to have the foresight to know that exposed steel beams just might pose a health-hazard... It's a shame a dude had to die to flush that out...

3) As for the weather: Its the warmest its been in 100 years. Its a battle but, in the end... they'll get it done.

I don't care about the weather... it happens...

Unless you were a competitor whose warm-up routine was disrupted. They probably don't think it was "nothing".

This will go down as one of the worst Olympics ever. I know none of the previous Olympics were perfect but there have been too many problems all ready and we are only six days in.

As for NBC, they suck. We are in Arizona and none of it is being televised live. That is pathetic.

Warm-ups are done on an inner ring, and this wasn't effected by the spill.

You might have a different, and informed opinion, if you were actually watching.
