Is there a coach out there that will inspire both excitement and ticket sales?

Regardless of what we think the best head coaching candidate is for the team in terms of wins, what coach right now do you think will inspire the most excitement in the fringe fanbase?

Right now, I'm considering not renewing my season tickets (finances, travel, and an incident at the stadium are factors, I'm not trying to prove a point to ownership), and I'm sure after the product on the field has been mediocre, other fans are considering it.

Is there a coach or even coach+player combo that can immediately resuscitate the franchise to people? I'm not sure.

Mike Holmgren might but he's 64 so probably not the best candidate.

Horton possibly could if he got enough exposure with the fan base.

The signing of Wiz wasnt considered exciting at the time either. It worked to great heights just 2 years later :D

On the other side, how excited were you when Cruddy ball "brought a winner to town" or when Denny threw up his W/L chart?

I think Horton is the right man & this time and he will soon have the fans of the Valley excited again if hired in 2 years!

Probably not. W's is really the selling point. They've cleared out the club level the past two years.

Horton may be the best candidate for that. Reid was more instant gratification than a long term solution, imo.

Chip Kelly could bring a good deal of enthusiasm back.

Mike McCoy a little less..but he's solid from everything I've heard.

I was too young to really remember Buddy Ryan being hired, or understand the full significance of it. Plus, my dad was a Redskins fan. I wasn't allowed to pay much attention to any other teams until I hit puberty and he realized I wasn't going to change my mind. :D

But, I was excited for Denny Green, and mildly enthused about Whiz (although I was a big fan of the Whiz hire once we added Grimm and really wanted a coordinator like him that year).

Bill Cowher has the name recognition to do both. I don't think he will come out of retirement for the Cardinals job though.

Cowher is only 55.

Ron Jeremy. At least he'd be honest about continually screwing the fan-base.

I agree with the Gruden and Cowher comments. I actually think Andy Reid could for a large portion as well.

If we keep Horton and get a known OC like a turner or someone else of similar pedigree, I can see that being sold pretty successfully. Cards fans know who played well last season (defense, and why...talent + horton). A known OC could help with the thought the offense is fixed.

Of course this is the perception game, and reality need not intersect with perception ever.

Of course they need to back up what they do with personnel moves. If whoever they trot out comes with Kolb, it's going to be a tough sell. If Kolb is going to start, they better not announce it if they want ticket sales.

I hope we make moves that are best because they are the best and not with the mindset of selling tickets on the shock value of the move.

We need to sign/draft (actually both) a QB. If Kolb somehow ends up starting, until injured, then that's what happens. But they better actually go out and get some QB's.

Personally I would have cut Kolb halfway through preseason, and even if he had a decent few games (shockingly), when not under extreme duress (not often here), he has talent and showcases it, until he gets injured, he still gets injured. Toe, ribs, concussed.

Kolb should be thought of as a backup. While many fans don't know the nuance, most fans simply don't want anything to do with any of our QB's and/or are fine if none of the above or one of the above is still on the roster....but that none should start. So ticket sales wise, they need to get through to the fans that they took care of that problem, and here's the coaches, players, and perhaps offense of what will cure that horrible problem we had last year.

Yeah, by a landslide this would be the most popular hire. Followed by Gruden.

Can't imagine it will happen though. I'm sure Cowher would talk to Whis in depth about the situation here and.... that would probably be that.

I think both Cowher and Gruden are waiting for the same job to open - The Dallas Cowboys.

I still don't get the luv for Gruden. He's a great talker & knows the game, but lots of players probably hated him too aka Meshawn & Simms. He sucked at evaluating QBs after he had Gannon & Johnson & never single handidly drafted & developed one.

IMO neither one of those guys could ever work for plastic face Jones!!! Think about that!

Urban wrote an interesting article on the Horton/Norv Turner connection. He said it purely just something to think about and doesn't know what the Cardinals are going to do with the coaching vacancies. If that happened I would be pretty hyped up about that.

Yeah, Horton with Turner as an OC - where he really does shine - would be enough for me to get amped. Turner might even be able to find a way to get Rivers here as well, depending what happens in SD.

I missed that article, and it would completely change my mind on the coaching hire. If this staff can be Horton - HC, Turner - OC, and maybe Cioffi - DC, I'm completely on board over anything available this offseason.

Winning the press conference doesn't necessarily translate to winning on the field. Both of the Cardinals recent big name hires ended up being busts. While nobody usually wants to hire a coach that their fan base is going to hate, I don't see them going after the name that will sell the most tickets either.

With all the talk about how important the coordinators are, I'm starting to think a head coach isn't really that important at all.

Say you keep Horton as DC and hire Turner as OC. What do you need a head coach for? Motivating people? Hire some strippers or something. That would "inspire the most excitement in the fringe fanbase".

I understand why a few would object, but Nick Saban is the one name that I would think would make this town go Cards crazy.

Bruce Arians only excites me if he could also talk the Colts into trading Andrew Luck to the Cards. I DO NOT GET the love for that guy otherwise.

Pardon my ignorance, but I just don't get the Norv Turner love as OC. To me he's still riding the Dallas 'glory' years from 15 years ago. Didn't he bomb in Washington too? yeah, the Chargers offense was pretty good at times, but what else?
