ASFN Lifer
I don't want Stanton - the reason he's on the bench is because he's a career backup. Agree we need to see more of Roberts, Golden and Brown and less of our putrid TE's. Who is Ryan Williams?
Agree. It's very frustrating to see 'Cardinals beating Cardinals'. Very frustrating! Stop the madness!
they also didn't seem to think replacing Levi was a question after a couple weeks. bottom line...Palmer keeps playing like this and putting us in holes, it's gonna be tough to keep him in there, especially considering how poorly he played in his last stints as a starter with the Bengals and Raiders.
lol i dont think its that simple budKeim got his job in part because it has been leaked that he wanted Peterson over Brown.
It is pretty close to it.lol i dont think its that simple bud
I just rewatched the SF game (condensed version).
I noticed one thing about Palmer - his throws seem to arrive a half-second late. (This is why our receivers seem to be so tightly covered. DB's and LB's have time to catch up to the ball).
I don't think it's because Palmer's releasing the ball late but because those throws lack velocity. Sometimes you need to float a ball, most times you have to drill it. I'm not sure whether the problem is due to lack of arm strength or whether it's because Carson prefers be a dart-thrower or "steer" the ball to spots where he thinks his receivers will be; but I think Palmer could add 5 - 10% to his completion percentage if he zinged in those passes with more authority.
True, but Arians and Keim personally acquired Palmer while Keim got his job in part because it has been leaked that he wanted Peterson over Brown.
So what? Turned out he was the smartest man in the room while Whiz and Graves were too concerned about need to reach for someone with poor technique and questionable work ethic. Glad this was corroborated by Mike Silver and not just self-promotion by Keim.
One of the reasons I love posting on this board is the variety of responses to the threads (the respectful ones that is).
I must admit---after digesting BA's take on the struggles of the offense and Andre Ellington's feeling that something started to click in the second half---
AND---paying careful heed to Rugby's astute reminder that after the two picks CP's QB rating was 110.0---
I am willing to give BA and CP the benefit of the doubt.
Sometimes I get so angry at early incompetence that the bad taste lingers, even longer perhaps than it should.

You know---I look at the intensity that QBs like Brady, Brees, Luck and Peyton have and I just do not see an iota of that in Palmer and it bothers me.
But---on the flip side---QBs like Rodgers and Flacco (two recent SB winners)---are a little more laid back. yet, even they seem to be enjoying the craft more than Palmer.
I think Palmer needs to play angry. The one time he did, I was impressed and it help to secure a come from behind win after the customary early struggles.
I coached a QB like that once. It was uncanny---every time I got him angry, he played like his pants were on fire. Some players are like that.
Thanks everyone for a great discussion---I feel more hopeful heading into Thursday night.
And a special shout out to Rugby who has managed to keep his wits about him.
In the same spirit, I'd like to give a shout out to Russ, whose views I find very compelling on this thread.
I think one way or another Thursday night will give us greater clarity.
