i bet Fitz, Boldin, or Breaston would love to have 11 catches in a game, especially with a stiff like Chad Pennington throwing the ball. Btw, that wasn't an easy catch, but i agree, it's one that needs to be made.

Pennington is the most accurate QB in the history of the NFL. I wouldn't exactly call him a stiff. Ginn dropped 2 TDs that hit him in the hand last night BTW.

So what about Pennington. He should be the most accurate when he can't throw it more than 7 yards downfield. Ginn would best be used in a big play type offense with a QB who can get the ball downfield. If we're talking about the same "drop" early in the game,it wouldn't have mattered because the ball was OB.That's why Ginn dropped it because he was trying to stay inbounds while the ball was out. Aside from that, every receiver has drops.Ginn's problem is that he hasn't been able to make the big play.

I dont know how to find the picture but that ball was nowhere near being OB. He just flat out missed it. He was still two strides from the back of the endzone.

I agree, they've got two decent players who fit in entirely different systems. Pennington is very accurate but has a weak arm and for that reason he has to be 'managed' and the offense needs to be tailored around his strengths (ie a short passing game (much like Jeff Garcia)). Ginn I see very much like DeSean Jackson in that they are vertical threats who aren't the best route runners. When you combine a QB who is best on short to intermediate routes with a WR who is best stretching a defense, you end up with an offense that is most effective when their tailback takes the snap directly.

Not saying that neither player are bad players but that they're a bad fit for each other.

The ball was a half stride too far in front of him. He tipped it but it didn't land in his hands and he was laying out for it so it's not like he alligator armed it.
It's a catch great WR's make but I wouldn't call it a drop.

The 2nd one hit him in the hands but in the air it's not easy. Again Ginn is not a great WR, the great ones like Fitz and Boldin make those catches.

At least it didn't hit him in the shoulder pad!

I have to defend Jackson here, using him and Ginn in the same sentence is just not fair. Jackson was Philly's best WR as a rookie, Ginn couldn't even get on the field at times as a rookie. DeSean had nearly twice the catches, more than twice the yardage. Ginn's second season was nearly as good as Jackson's rookie year.

Jackson runs routes better than people think, the only reason he didn't go higher in the draft was his size concerned people. You don't catch 62 passes for over 900 yards as a rookie with a very inaccurate QB if you can't run routes.

I do agree Ginn and Pennington don't mesh, Ginn needs to use his speed, right now he's just using it as a threat before running underneath, but so far he's been very poor after the catch for a guy that fast.

:cough:cal homer alert:cough:

:D

JTS

There's tons of homerism in this thread. And how about that Mike BELL!?!? ;)

But Russ is right. Comparing that abject bust in Teddy Ginn to one of the best young (and most exciting) players in Desean Jackson is laughable.

IMO Desean Jackson is the next Steve Smith. He just needs to not let his ginormous head get in the way.

For the first time in a long time maybe ever I actually felt sorry for a receiver. I mean it has to be disheartening to know that if you get too far down field your QB couldn't even get you the ball. Ginn and Penington mix is about as odd as it gets. I obviously don't think it was their intention when they drafted him, but it's all they have right now.

I actually want to defend Ginn on that last drop in the endzone. I really think they could have called pass interference, because the db pushed Ginn's right arm and caused him to not have enough space between his hands to catch the ball. Obviously if he was a superstar he makes that catch, but I don't think it was all that easy of a catch. I actually thought he played well and seemed to constantly get open, but CP couldn't get him the ball enough.

You mean something like JaMArcus Russell and Darius HB?

I would stick to Pennington and his short and middle HOF worthy accuracy and game managing skills any time.

When you have the hands on the ball, the rule is that you have to make the catch, especially when it is that important.
