Because Leach has a very toxic personality, or at least reputation of having one.

I don't know if this is a good move or not but I can see thinking I'd like to hire Mike Leach, I think Mike Leach is nuts, maybe we can hire a protege of his that's not nuts?
Mike Leach is the mad scientist. K K is the lab assistant who learned at his side.

Going down this road...they have to have a big plan for experienced NFL staff and DC. Looking forward to seeing the plan.
I agree. If they don't have names in the next day or so I'll get pretty nervous . However, I do feel like this plan has been in place for longer than we know.

Crazy like a fox?

He sure knows how to build a program and win games. Not saying he is the best fit for us, just that if we are going to hire KTK then why not Leach?

I can't imagine that he would have enough NFL ties to bring in a staff. So what, it's up to Keim and company to come up with his staff? That sounds like alot of work.

It makes you wonder if there's another semi big name in the fold that they plan to lean on for that? The high profile DC makes sense because that could cover that half of the coaching staff.

I’d imagine coaches around the league sharing these sentiments based on KK getting a HC gig having proved nothing. I just hope big time DC’s aren’t turned off by it. We need a seasoned vet like Pagano, Ryan or Marv. I think the offense will be fine.

I don't know if he's good or not but I would point out Chris Beard has Texas Tech's basketball team at 13-1 with that one loss a very competitive loss to Duke where they led much of the game..

I agree it's harder to recruit there, but it is possible take lower rated recruits. He was actually sub 500 in the 2 years Mahomes was the starting QB.

That said, those 2 years they averaged 45 and 43 PPG so the part he'll be in control of with us, he was pretty good at in college.

I think I know why you’re bringing up Chris Beard.

NFL experience.

Know how to build a NFL roster from the scrap heap we currently have.

Can establish a culture.

Can get players to buy into the system.

You know, they know how to coach in the NFL and how to be successful.

I know it would not be interesting to hire a guy like Jim Caldwell, but when you get your doors blown off every game during the season that seem to be a little more important than hype, and a desperate reach following a trend based off of a single national game played this season.

It’s not his job to build the roster FYI

Only the first pick in every round except round 7? Otherwise it sucked...

Real leaders typically don't self identify as such you kinda have to be nominated by the people you lead so I'm not sure that qualifies but the NFL loves players coaches.

That is until their records stop loving them back.

I believe players have to like coming to work. Remember the silly dress ups after the qb challenges? There was no fun last year. No imagination. When fitz threw the td pass the players were acting like they won the damn super bowl. KK is going to infuse some fun and excitement on this team.

I agree with you totally however at the end of the day the goal is to win the SB and either someone has the chops to get there or they are just another poser.

Not like we have that happen a lot I know but if any franchise is due for a superior HC it's us. I'd be very queasy about the college record.

Texas has a ton of football talent, any school in Texas should be able to be 500 at worst that is if you're thinking of promoting your coach to the NFL.

In a strange way I think this may be people going over gaga on Rosen, you can go a long long long time between the Mahomes of the world.

Jim Caldwell didn't move the needle anywhere he went. Caldwell is the definition of mediocre NFL Head Coach.

He did win, but I have to be honest, he never felt like a guy who was responsible for his own success.

It says something that I can't imagine what Jim Caldwell with a smile looks like.

Like someone already said and I happen to agree. This is all about mentoring and bringing along Rosen as a legit franchise QB. This guy mentored Mahomes into being a pro. Its worth the shot Even if it turns out wrong. Now its time to make our wishes or pray to whatever god you see fit.. :)

Agreed. I'm approaching this with cautious optimism. There's plenty you can argue about with the hire, but you can't argue it isn't a swing for the fences. If nothing else, I like what that it gives the Rosen one a great chance to develop.

I’m with Rugby Caldwell is way underrated on this board. He may not be a top flight HC but he’s better than mediocre imo.

I think this was the best hire possible based on the named candidates. He is the only one with tangible sustained results over a 6 year period even if they were in the big 12. None of the others could even point to anything similar. His teams offensive rankings are nothing to spit at when we consider the putrid offense we saw last year.

There are so many moving parts to consider when trying to project whether a coach will be successful as a HC, but the expectations are so low that 6-10 and middle of the pack offense next year would be a godsend.
