Is that pick we got protected in any way?
After acquiring Marcin Gortat the Suns had six teams call to check on his availability only to be told he is not being moved.

The Magic will make the playoffs in the usual weak east anyhow so I guess the pick will be in the 15-20 range...
lmao, just turned on sports center this morning...Hedo's dunk attempt kind of killed the game for the Magic. Jrich was heating up at the end of that game but he was pretty invisible for most of the game.

hedo blocks himself with the rim.

JRich and Turk both played 39 mins last night. Clark got 13. Wow. Bass went to the bench and got 16 minutes. Clark is going to get a good look and some burn in Orlando.
Did Hedo ever get that many minutes here?
After a few weeks of that, I'd allow him to take layups and slam dunks but it would be a LONG time before he'd have the green light anywhere else.
"But Officer, I was minding my own business, driving slowly down the street when that steam roller darter out of the side street and hit me."Oh come on, that could happen to anyone. Sometimes that rim just comes out of nowhere.

Looking at our team after this trade. We are much slower. We do not have the personnel to run a SSOL type of offense.
Vince Carter is slower than JRich
Gortat is slower than EC
Pietrus might not get much burn.
I am wondering if we had so many wings we did not give Clark enough time to demonstrate his worth. Interesting that Nash tweeted that no one worked harder than EC in practice.

I totally disagree with your premise. Vince Carter is not why the Suns made the trade. He may be slower than JRich but so what. The Suns have a good supply of wings. Earl Clark is not a 4/5 so the comparison to Gortat is not even applicable. Earl Clark was not part of the Suns rotation anyway. The Suns do not lose speed with Pietrus and gain defense. He can also shoot the 3 point shot. Also the Suns got a whole lot faster with the loss of Turkoglu.
I know a lot of people are down on Carter, for good reason, but there is one thing he can do that JRich can't do which is create his own shot. He does a pretty good job in isolation and can break down the defense to get his own shot up. JRich, as awesome as he is on offense, is limited in this.
I'm not down on Carter. In fact, I think he could surprise if healthy. However, Carter is not the reason the Suns made the trade. Anything he brings to the table is gravy. So comparing him to JRich straight up is not fair.
That is true. JRich does just fine at creating his own shot. The point I am making is that this team is much slower than it has been in the past. The defense is better, but the offense has to be different. I might be underestimating Pietrus. Word from Orlando is that he has played horribly this year. We'll see.
I just don't get where you think the Suns are a slower team with this trade that cannot run just as well. The subtraction of Turkoglu alone makes the Suns a quicker team. Clark did not even fit into the Suns rotation. Pietrus is not a slow player and Gortat is a big mobile big man. The only thing I think you can argue is that Carter has slowed down and he was not the reason the Suns made the trade. Even Carter, if healthy can do a lot of things on the court. He is not a slug.
I think I am being misunderstood. I am not talking about being slower than we were last week. I am talking about being slower than we have been historically--and much slower.
Does this really look like a team that can run SSOL well?
The Suns are no longer playing SSOL. This departed with DA. Gentry is still coaching a fast paced running style and spreading the floor much like SSOL except the Suns are now trying to play defense and Nash has slowed a half-step. I don't see where the Suns have slowed much elsewhere. Also the Suns can't run if they don't make stops and rebound.
If they ship Gortat to Atlanta for Smith I'll go mental.
