As I have not seen him play I googled him. Wow. If this kid is not tailor made for Al Davis, I don't know who is. 6'5" with apparently the strongest arm EVER at the position. And the kid has touch, and underrated football smarts. Should he declare, how can Al pass on him?

1. Oakland - Russell
2. Detroit - Quinn
3. Cleveland - Peterson
4. Tampa Bay - Calvin Johnson
5. Arizona - we get Thomas.

It's gonna work out for us.

But allow me to add that Adrian Peterson is my choice for the pick.

He had 26 TD's, only 7 INT's, 10 yards per throw, some say he is actually 6'6" over 250 lbs, rocket arm, and an amazing 70% completion rate. All against some great competition.

Dude is a physical freak with the smarts to boot.

I think come draft day he overcomes Quinn with ease, and that isnt a knock on Quinn either.

What's the work coming out of LSU with respect to him declaring? Anyone?

Many believes it depends on what he does in his upcoming bowl game against ND. If he bombs it will be a 50-50 that he leaves. But if he destroys ND like most believe even ND faithfull, some believe it is a lock that he leaves early.

IMO, I think it is a 90-10 that he leaves.

He should leave because he's not that good and his stick will never be any higher. I still don't know how he's skyrocketed up the draft board becuase it certainly hasn't been based on his on the field performance.

Would you mind elaborating? I'm interested in the kid's "story".

How so.

He has the 3rd ranked passer rating in all of college football, all without much of a run game.

Troy Smith is 4th, Brohm is 9th, Quinn is 15th.

You may not think he translates to the NFL but to say he hasnt performed on the field is very unfair.

I don't know --- I've watched this guy quite a bit and something is just missing IMO. He'll look like a worldbeater, and then turnaround and make very boneheaded plays. IMO, and MO only, he's so gifted physically, he's not too concerned with the mental side of the game.

He only has 7 INT's though. Is there a fumbling problem or penalties I am not aware of (I am honestly not sure).

And he has a 70% completion rate so he hasnt made to many bad throws compared to other QB's.

The one thing I like best about him is that he tends to come through when the pressure is on. He's better than most in game-ending drives. All I can say is that during the rest of the game his intensity and attention just seems to wander. It may be that he's too conservative and doesn't really cut loose until he has to.

Also, his three biggest games this year -

Auburn - 3 points.
Florida - 3 INTS
Tenn. - 3 INTS

Those games I watched from beginning to end. He had good moments in each of those, but struggled as well. I also saw the Alabama, Georgia and Arkansas games.

agreed, better athlete than player but he's awfully talented and he's done quite well this year.

I asked some hard-core LSU fans I know and they told me this...

He's not exactly a stellar student. He'll only stay if he thinks it'll improve his draft stock. If for some reason a scout tells him he needs to be more polished or needs more reps before he is ready.

You hit the nail on the head.

JaMarcus has a billion dollar arm and talented as any QB I've seen hit the draft in quite some time. However, when it comes down to things, he lacks that It factor, the ability to put a team on his shoulders and lead them to greatness that guys like Manning (Peyton, not Eli), Brady and others in the league has.

I think the comparisons to Culpepper are much more accurate than we realize. Culpepper's the same way, billion dollar arm, zero leadership skills.

Nonetheless, I think (and will continue to predict this until draft day) that the Raiders take Calvin Johnson #1 overall.. However, Detroit at #2 could be intruiged and take him to groom under Kitna for a few seasons before turning him loose, if they don't go for a CB, S or trade down.

If the Raiders pass on a QB again they are as bad as the Lions drafting WRs 3 years in a row.

I don't see the Bucs passing on a good Olineman with the struggles of their running game and the fact that their starting Qb recently had his spleen removed

Difference is, the Raiders need a playmaker on offense, and will be devoid of any kind of talent at WR when Moss and Porter are sent packing. Calvin is being called one of the best WR talents to hit the draft since Fitzgerald.

And yet, drafting a cannon arm like Russell just may be what the doctor ordered with respect to Moss and Porter jumping back on board the Raider wagon.

Admittedly I have only seen him play twice so thanks for the interesting info.

Erratic is how I would describe him. He awes you with his physical presence. Great in pre game warm ups. The head to head match up with Quinn will be interesting, although I think Russell will have an easier time against ND's terrible pass defense. Quinn could have it a lot rougher aginst LSU's defense.

Notre Dame's defense is small and slow. Jamarcus Russell is going to rip them up.

Meanwhile, Brady Quinn is going to spend all game on his back or running for his life.

Bad game to judge anything. LSU is just so much bigger, faster and is playing at home.

Skkorp -

What are your thoughts on hiring Norm Chow? I want the NC state/Phillip Rivers angle on this guy.

The kid is on tonight. I hope he lights it up and shoots up the draft board to number one, allowing us one other stud player to draft.

I agree with this. I've seen him a lot the last two seasons and his a pretty good QB but I have seen it too... He has had a pretty good career though and with a good combine I could see him going early, I don't know if that's going to be a very smart pick but a top 5 team though.
