"A league source indicated that the Blazers also were trying to acquire Phoenix guard James Jones along with the Suns’ 24th pick in the first round for a second-round pick and cash."

In a separate deal it doesn't work under the cap since they can't absorb Jones' salary.

However, it does work as the part of the Randolph-deal.

If it comes true, I hope it's made for McRoberts. He would be a perfect fit for the Suns and at least we would acquire some serious talent.

has this been documented as fact yet?
All the reports so far have been coming from Oregon media. Perhaps they acquired him without Suns knowledge? I'm sure Kerr will be notified of the trade shortly :)

I tend to believe the reports from Oregon that have them not sending any of the picks. Honestly who believes the Blazers would need to include anything for the Suns to accept this? The Suns couldn't even get a 2nd round pick for the 24 even though they say they were trying to get a higher 2nd round pick to draft Strawberry.

Oregon media says they are not giving up a player. Future 2nd?

I haven't done the math, but supposedly the Blazers picked up a TE in their Randolph for Francis deal and so that is what will be used.

This deal could not be completed because the other one has to be certified first.

i gotta admit, that's the most disconcerting thing about this to me. I think it's fair to chalk it up to on the job training, but that gets back to Sarver not wanting to reward the GM who put this team together, forcing him out, which put novices at the helm, forced into on the job training TWICE in the middle of a title run era. that's what it all comes back to IMO. We're like an incredibly well constructed ship right now battling an ocean storm (Spurs/Mavs), and the new owner of the boat threw the skipper overboard because of personal differences/salary concerns and has been installing guys to steer the ship who have even sailed before. the hope is that the ship's foundation is so well built that ANYONE with a couple breaks could steer it to it's final destination - title-town, but it remains to be seen if we get there.

I wasn't sad to see BC go when he did. I thought the Collangelo's had groomed the staff and Griffin was ready to step in. I'm willing to admit how wrong I was about letting BC go now. Maybe things aren't much different than they are now, but atleast I wouldn't feel like other teams are laughing as they take advantage of the Suns.

They got bent over and should feel pretty damn sheepish about it.
Philly got their pick ????

Maybe if these freeking blowhards would just STFUP about what their intentions are/were we would be dealing from a better position. I would put a 'no comment on trades/desires' rule in effect next yr.

I am way more confident with Tucker getting playing time then James Jones.

Good grief, what an absurd statement. Most late first-round picks don't even get regular playing time. Jones was no star, but he was much better than you're making him out to be.

James Jones wasn't traded, he was sold. Before it is over, Sarver will sell the whole damn team. What do you expect from a banker?

What I understand is that they sold the 24th pick for 3 mil.
They traded James Jones to Portland for the TE Portland received from the trade with NY.
I am not sure if that is right, but that makes sense as far as Portland getting Jones and giving nothing for him.

Now we wait to see who the suns sign as free agents.

Or now we can use that trade exception to not send as much salary to Minnesota for KG.

Which means he shot how well once the ball was changed back?

Well, he shot incredibly well after they changed the ball... for what 4-6 weeks at most? Then his shot went right back into the toilet except for that occasional game every two weeks or so.

I'm not happy about selling the #24. I would not be happy about giving away James Jones. I swear though that most of the people bitching and moaning about this move, which seems to be completely made up anyhow, are the same people who just wanted to unload his $3 million salary about a month ago.
