Someone mentioned that Garcia might be a cap casualty in the off season. Should the Cards go after him. I think he is getting up there in age as far as NFL standards goes. If his is cut, do we sign him before the dratf, trade down and get more picks, but miss out on Eli and Ben. Or draft the QB and forget the whole thing?

I wouldn't mind having Garcia, but he isn't a young guy. The Cardinals are going to have to take a QB someday soon...can they pass up either Eli or Ben?

If Garcia is over 30, then the Cards will have to draft a QB. I think they should anyway. Then use the rest of the picks on defense.

So draft Eli or Ben, drop Blake, get Garcia until Ben or Eli is ready.

I like it!

Russ Smit posted something earlier saying that Green liked Blake and felt he was not the problem last year....oye!

No matter what,it sounds like Blake is going to be gone.Green was reported saying if they get a QB then they can turn it around. Not really a ringing endorsement for "Leon".

Let's be greedy.

I want Garcia as our vet.

I want McCown to push him.

I want Manning or Roethlisberger as our QBOF.

I swear I saw him talk about it more than once, once for sure after we announced Josh was starting, he said he understood the rationale but that he felt Blake wasn't really to blame for what happened he was put in an offense that didn't suit his strengths with nobody to throw the ball to. I did a google search but can't find any direct quotes from Denny about Blake so maybe I imagined it. Given Green's success in Minnesota with a bunch of different QB's it wouldn't shock me at all to see him design an offense around Blake that makes him look a lot better.

I don't know if Green said we need to get a QB, or if the writer who wrote that piece said they need to get a QB.

I also would not count on Garcia hitting FA, obviously he makes a ton of money but cutting him brings on a huge caphit, they'll try to alter his contract although they did announce recently that they're through wtih the restructure and kill the future cap model they're going to try to be more careful. They said 2 weeks ago that when they signed the contract everyone including Garcia knew it was intended to be restructured later, I don't think his contract is going to force him out there.

If you go back exactly one year, supposedly both Brunell and Warner were going to get cut for cap reasons. Neither one was cut (although they might be this year, now that they've been supplanted). I really doubt that Garcia is cut either. For Tim Rattay? That'd be nuts.

apparently the 49er players really got behind Rattay when Garcia was hurt this year....

Maybe Garcia is not well liked by the players

As long as we're throwing out wild unsubstantiated rumors like PFW (which is where the Garcia thing came from) let's talk about Ray Lewis, Ricky Williams and Randy Moss and their deep seeded desires to come play in the desert!

Jeff Garcia is an a-hole. Let him go cuddle with Kordell Stewart in Chicago. Over the hill, never that good to begin with. His injuries this season are just a prelude to what's to come for the next team that pins their playoff hopes on this guy.

Get it out of your system now, because it would take a desperate coach or GM to think that Jeff Garcia is the answer to his QB problem.

It was really Owens pushing for Rattay. In fairness, Garcia shouldn't have been playing besides the back he had a really bad ankle that impacted him too. When Rattay played so well replacing him early Owens came out and endorsed him.

I know they had a blurb about it in the SJ Mercury recently but I tried to look on their site but for articles older than 7 days you have to pay. I get the paper at home but I don't save them for long.

Basically they said that Garcia's contract was signed with the understanding it would be redone later to lessen the caphit.

I could believe that Erickson doesn't like Garcia, he's not his style of QB he wants a stronger arm, but I don't think the players on the team have a problem with him.

Garcia isn't that bad, the problem here is he's so local that his dad literally calls up sports talk radio shows as "Bob from Gilroy" to comment when they're trashing his son. This year with the back injury and the ankle he played so badly at times that it was big news and he's been almost as popular here as Jake was in Arizona in his heyday.

The other thing is there's always been the "is Garcia gay" rumors, so everytime he struggles someone trots out the well you know people "like that" have problems in a violent sport like football stuff. It sounds juvenile as hell but I've literally seen local sports guys ask him on air if he thinks he's "tough enough" and it's quite clear what they're really asking him, are you gay. In SF of course it only magnifies it. I have no idea if he is or not nor do I care but there's no question that it's a rep that has caused some issues for him.

My problem is at his age with the back injury I don't know that he's going to be any better than Blake was, he's more accurate but he doesn't have a great arm and he was REALLY hurting this year you could see him wincing repeatedly during games after contact, I don't see his back getting any better soon.

Hopefully we want be drafting this high again very soon so take a QB while the taking is good. Do not expect to live on old QB's from year to year.
