he's not a career loser he's consistently improved the records of the teams he's joined.

Stand by your man, Russ. I'm sure Blake wasn't helped at all by Cory Dillon's arrival in Cincy, or Ricky Williams in New Orleans.

Blake did just okay. He was good early in the game, when it was still close. He delivered the ball in time, made good reads, and bought time for himself. He hurt his team in the unforced turnovers department, and with a dearth of leadership under center. His eyes were locked on Boldin every time he was on the field, and didn't seem to look to check-downs or look off wideouts at all. If this was a game against a more proactive, opportunistic defense (we play the Ravens and Panthers, this season, by the way), the score would have been much, much worse.

Yes the Broncos won but it was despite Jake not because of Jake. He played worse than just about any QB in the NFL this week.

None of whic has any bearing on Blake who is not excused for his mistakes (which he ffessed up to) but we should not ignore the things he did well either.

Nobody gets a mulligan on the season, I don't understand where you are coming from Lex.

Speaking of which, why didn't they flag that guy for hitting Blake after the whistle on the one false start? He did try to hold up right at the end but that was the biggest hit Jeff took all game.

The captions said "stunned there's no flag". And they then show McCown and it says "there's the backup Josh". Did they really not know his last name or was it just the captioning?

In that situation I really don't fault Blake for not making a play, I don't want him getting hurt there and killing the rest of the season.

I see nobody making excuses for Balke on this board

Touche Earthsci. Nice one.

I think all quarterbacks are extremely overrated. I also firmly believe that statistics are for losers. The things that the QB is resposible for are not always included in the Statistics, and statistics themselves are open to interpretation.

Let's get back to the thread. Jeff Blake has learned that if he has good stats, he's untouchable. So far, it looks to me like he's right according to reaction around here, but like I said, stats are for losers IMO.

Actually he wasn't. the 7-9 and 8-8 records were the 2 years BEFORE Dillon was drafted, they had Harold Green and then Hearst as the leading rushers.

in NO Ricky had exactly 1000 yards in 10 games the year Blake was there and got hurt. Yes getting a guy like that helps the QB but Ricky was being called a disappointment until he got to Miami.

Home-field advantage counts for something in this league. :)

Seriously, I don't know why it falls to the "Blake haters" (whomever they are) to explain this. It sounds like a question for the League Office (use those press credentials, nidan). I thought the hid was inexcusable, but the ref either didn't see it, or thought that Blake might be "flopping" (I'd have to see the tape again to find out). Either way, the on-field personnel had a much better idea of what was happening than a bunch of people watching at home and on monitors in the pressbox.

Why dont you just start a thread titled "I love Jake Plummer and no matter what he does is right and all other QB's pale in comparison"?

You keep making excuses for Plummer (Statistics are overrated) Yet if Plummer had Blakes numbers this last game you would be the first to sound off!

 You really believe that the Bengals spent the week devising a game plan that was worried about Plummer? Woody Page must be your uncle.

Speaking of which, did you see his delusional ramblings today Russ?

Yes, he had a better rating than Griese's last game (-:

As for the Bronco game. I didn't see it, I asked the freak board and the claim was the Bengals played a 4-2-5 the first half so Lex is not lying saying they were in a nickel.

Of course I think the 3 picks were all in the 2nd half?

I was going to say the same thing. Blake had nothing to gain by continuing pursuit. That Lion probably had eyes like saucers when he saw Blake running and would have hit him into week 3 had it continued. Additionally, there was really no way had Blake somehow bested the blocker that he was going to stop Bly.

Teflon Blake...

Go back and tell me when Jake Plummer became part of this thread...no, wait I'll save you some time. Jake wasn't a part of this, till people started excusing Blakes perfermance because Jake would have, or did worse.

You people are so consumed by Jake Plummer, that when I talk about JEFF BLAKES STATISTICS...you think I'm talking about Denvers quarterbacks statistics.

Blake was the leading passer in the NFL this week. He did that with a set of WRs that every said were the worst in the NFL. That my friend is why everyone is high on Blake right now.

I am anything but a Blake hater but here is why I think there was no flag. The hit wasn't malicious and if you watch the replay, the Lion player who hit him also appeared to try and hold him up from hitting the ground a bit but wasn't fast enough. I mean, if the crowd was noisy and the player focused, he simply may not have heard the whistle. It happens. It was a borderline call IMO but a flag should have been thrown simply because it was the QB.

I cannot recall where that hit happened in the course of the game but was that where Blake suddenly dropped off? If so maybe the hit rattled him a little.

That hit was total BS. They showed a replay and you could clearly hear the first whistle when the defender was 5 steps away. A second louder whistle sounded and he was still 2 steps away. Yes he did try and hold up at the last second but he still hit Blake solidly. Everyone else had stoped play and he was the only one still going full steam. That was a horrible no call by the refs.

I don't think so but I did get nervous seeing Josh getting ready so it was hard enough that initially it shook Blake up.

He didn't look sharp the whole 2nd half, that much is sure.

It seems like few people on this thread know how to "play in the gray."

Blake didn't single-handedly lose the game. He did some good and bad things (more good than bad, and his good/bad ratio was better than Plummer yesterday or, for that matter on a typical day).

I can count 4 instances where Blake didn't protect the ball very well: (1) the pick, (2) the fumble, (3 and (4) two other times where the ball fell out of his hands but he was able to catch it on the bounce. He also had trouble stumbling at least once. I think it may have helped kill a drive.

The pick and the fumble probably cost us 2 Lion TD's.

But on the other side of the coin, Blake threw 3 TD passes and had a QB rating somewhere around 98.1 (something Jake Plummer never saw in his wildest dreams). He used his feet well to navigate out of trouble and usually found (and hit) the open man. (And when he didn't, he threw the ball away).

The reason we lost the Detroit game was through a combination of factors - including problems in pass coverage, problems in pass rushing, inability to stop key short yardage running plays, a special teams melt down (although I'm wondering: "melt down from what?"), chronic clock management fiascos, this little problem our RT had with false starts AND those mistakes by Blake that cost us 14 and possibly killed a drive.

In other words, it was truly "a team effort."

That hit on Blake should have been called, no question. Lack of respect, any top QB in this league would have gotten that call.

All the trouble with the delay of game penalties, and wasted time outs, made me very unhappy with Blake, that's on him. AC and LJ couldn't hear Blake, Pete Kendall said on KDUS this morning, HE couldn't hear Blake. So they go on a silent count, ok fine, but that's a huge disadvantage to our O-linemen.

Can we give Jeff a bullhorn? Or increase his voice strength with professional voice lessons? Nope, we're just screwed every time the crowd is loud. Thank god we've got 8 games in nice quiet SDS.

Blake wasn't perfect, but then again, no one is. He's much better than what we had. Our OL (Dishman) stunk up the place and put him in a position where he was running for his life most of the game. That should not have happened. For some reason, our coaches decided not to run the ball anymore after we finally got our running game going and were in a close game. That should not have happened.

I feel our coaching was not very good. Our defensive schemes weren't working and we couldn't get our offensive plays in soon enough to beat the clock. Poor coaching. Special teams were always together in a group. No one stuck to their lanes and kept the field spread out to prevent big gains. Tackling was atrocious. Poor coaching. As far as I'm concerned, the play calling was the only thing that showed imagination and kept the Lions off-guard. Much better than we had the last couple of years.

everyone on that field was standing still for at least a count of 3 when that hit came from the right side. That should have been a roughing penalty and 15 yards. As for his performance it was great. Why they took away our running game had 9 men in the box had good pressure on Blake. Did you see how fast he made decisions on his release. How could anyone say he did this for stats. I'm sure he went over to the bench and asked how many of this or how far am I on that. That would be stupid to even think.

Yes he made a couple of mistakes that might have sealed the deal, however, he didn't put the ball in Cards side after every special teams play. He played a long field every time he started. We see a good performance that should have made Blake a winer if everyone does his job regardless of the fumble or pick.

After Game one Jeff ranks number one and on his way to the pro- bowl!
