Former #2 pick in the draft by the Rams Jason Smith was released by the Jets for cap reasons. A little injury prone and other issues with the Rams but might prove a decent back up for us if price is right.

I wouldn't be angry or anything if we signed him, but the Jets actually need tackle help and he clearly didn't help there. His career is likely done.

I'm constantly astounded at the way that Cardinals (fans) tend to eat their young. No one is a bigger Calvin Pace critic than I, but I don't know how he deserves this response. He was offered by the Jets far more than we were willing to pay him, or probably what he deserved. No fault in him taking that money.

What are the examples of Calvin Pace acting "like he was All-Pro", or displaying any ego at all? Perhaps you're confusing him with Simeon Rice?

Would Bart Scott fit alongside Washington?

He was just cut by the Jets today... could he fill the spot that Lenon may be leaving behind?

Whatever he has said about the Cards since leaving the Cards has been spot on. He has been unfairly judged because the Cards took him too high.

For how much?

First - who'd we have to cut or restructure to bring our cap deficit of approx. $3.2 million to zero?

Then - who'd we have to cut/restructure to create room for Scott?

Finally - would it be worth it?

(I'm not saying either way - I just think it's an exercise we have to go thru whenever a new name comes up).

As an add-on - the matter of Bradley is intriguing and a bit vexing. I'm not so sure his problems weren't less a matter of sucking and more one of Lenon beating him out of a starting spot. Four questions about Bradley? Can he play well? Can he play well enough in comparison with Scott to hold down an ILB starting spot? What would be the cap impact of cutting him? What would be the cap impact of keeping him?

No Way! We need to get younger. Scott is way past his prime.

We are talking about a 2 down, vet SILB. While I agree he is on the downside of his career, I can't say he wouldn't be an upgrade over Reggie Walker or isn't as good as Paris Lenon (who is a FA). I have no issues signing a stop gap SILB this offseason. Honestly, I owul dbe more worried about Scott's attitude than his physical ability.

If we're not going to draft and develop an SILB this season, I have no problem going year-to-year with the first guy we think will fit the system and play for $2M. The only thing cheaper would be drafting a guy in the third round or later and paying him $800K to do the same thing--you know, Gerald Hayes.

Calvin Pace was a good dude and a good player! You are just being a hater!
LOL...Calvin Pace was a douche bag...Wasn't it him that basically said the Cardinals were cheaters becuase of the way they ran their team the year they went to the Superbowl? I believe it was similar to what Udonis Haslem said about the way the Warriors played basketball under Don Nelson.

I also seem to remember Pace desparaging the Cardinals organization many times during his tenure with the Jets because they were not willing to pay his underachieving waste of talent ass loads of cash...

and to be honest, it is the perfect draft to find that guy (ie Greg Blair, Cincy). Maybe we will get a comp pick in the 7th round.

Vince Williams, from FSU, is another possibility. He didn't get a combine invite but was impressive during Senior Bowl week.

Calvin Pace sucked, and one of the best moves the Cardinals didn't make was not re-signing him to some ridiculous contract.

mmm... tasty. Tastes like failure.

Not too impressive for what he was paid.

You're not going to get much argument from me on any of this. I was the guy who started a thread called "I Hate Calvin Pace" the day he was drafted, which he subsequently read or someone told him about, and then talked about when he left town. There's no question that he was a huge disappointment here (and the prototype for what happened with Alan Branch).

That said, there's really no basis for the personal, character attacks that LIAC made against him. If you think that Karlos Dansby was overpaid, then let's talk about that. But if you think he was a bad guy and a bad teammate, when he was a two-time team captain, I'm going to argue with you.
