What's he going to say?

"We wanted more money up front."

No kidding, Einstein.

-They said last year if he plays well they WILL pay him now.

-Suns have lied to him
-They have been calling other teams, telling them NOT to make an offer

-After Suns heard about ATL's offer, and then offered 6 yrs, 60 mil

-THERE IS NO RIFT BETWEEN AMARE AND JOE. PERIOD.
-THATS A BUNCH OF CRAP
-THE TEAM ARE GOOD FRIENDS

-Joe is running 5 miles a morning, and is at the Suns facility EVERY DAY.

-Joe was shopping for a home in phoenix with Shawn Marion a month ago. (or in Shawn Marion's neighborhood.

"Yeah, well, we saw that Larry Hughes, Bobby Simmons and Michael Redd were all getting vastly overpaid. Then, the Suns came out and offered us a reasonable contract that was proportionate to Joe's talent level. We just couldn't stand for that. Plus, that one time, like 6 months ago, Amare yelled at Joe. He's very fragile. That's another reason he wanted to play for the Hawks. He knows he won't get heckled because they don't actually have any people at the games."

WOW.

The guy just said that Joe doesn't want to play in Atlanta -- that he won't be as happy there as he was in Phx. He pretty much said that Joe was counting on the Suns to match, and they're not.

-If Jerry or BC or even D'Antoni was calling the shots, JJ would have been signed by now, but Sarver is an idiot and he has completly screwed this up

What I don't get, is JJ is mad they originally only offered him $45 million. If they did that to me, and later they HAD to pay me $70 million, I would be so damn happy! I would be telling my boss everyday, shoulda paid me when you had the chance! :D He picked up essentially $20 million dollars by waiting a few months to sign a deal. That's one HELL of a return on investment, time value of money, or whatever you want to say.

He's mad at Nash? Heck, he was going to make almost twice as much as Nash. Whatever.....

To sum up, Joe felt that any offer less than what Atlanta was willing to pay him was an insult--and his feelings were hurt by the Suns' offers, so he's signing with Atlanta for a little extra dough even though he doesn't want to. Seems pretty childish to me.

JJ was calling the shots dude. He had a 70 million dollar offer on the table from Atlanta, essentially a max deal. He was going to get that money whether he got it from Phoenix or not. If he really wanted to be in Phoenix right now, he would be. The Agent is just trying to smooth over the fact that it was JJ who said that he didn't want to come back to Phoenix, so the Suns traded him to basketball hell. I don't feel sorry for him right now because he got exactly what he asked for.

Wow, the level of bias towards the way many of you are responding to these reports is interesting. Those of you that don't like JJ have already agreed with everyone the front office reported through Gambo, and even question where there is any spin. When someone tries to tell JJ's side of the story they are liars and it is all propaganda. I guess its a good day to be a JJ hater.

I used to deal with this all the time when JJ was still struggling and inconsistent. It looks like many of you never changed your mind after all, just shut up while he was succeeding and on the team.

Bickley:

he has an independent source with no vested intrest that the ONLY reason JJ is leaving is his displeasure with the contract situation and the Suns's statements about matching ANY offer, when they really didnt mean it.

-being a decoy or a team rift had NOTHING to do with JJ's decision.

Actually, the financial advisor was claiming that is not the case. Joe did and does want to be a Sun.

The stories that came out over the weekend seem to support that. In fact, that "radio promo" spot seemed to portray Joe as resigned to the fact that he would be matched and that he was going to be a Suns still. That's what baffled me about the subsequent sign and trade. If you know the guy is going to come and play up to his ability for you, how do you move him?

I'll go on record right now: I think Joe is not here because the Suns didn't want to pay that much for him. Hence the lowballs.

I agree I am quite impressed how the Suns spin has worked thus far.

Pretty soon I'll start seeing posts on this board how Boris Daiw is 10 times the player JJ is.

Dude if you can't see that this is spin then I'm sorry. The Gambo BS yesterday was spin. This is spin. It's all f-ing spin. We will probably never know the whole truth. If people want to be pissed at JJ because it makes them feel better then let them be. If people want to blame the suns because it makes them feel better, let them be also. Who cares. I hope he enjoys a good career in ATL but unfortenatly he will probably never be heard from again...

How do you explain JJ's remarks to ESPN that he did not want Sarver to match... more spin?

If this was JJ spinning, he sealed his own fate.

after read yesterdays story about problems between JJ and Amare i started to think back to the games when nash was out and jj was running the show. you know what came to me? that everytime that jj was running the point, it wasnt passing to amare or marion. he would just creat for himself. his assist were coming from passes to q or nash in the flow of the offensive. so yea i can see that there may have been some problems between jj and amare. but i also remember hearing that they all liked each other.

so if jj wants to stay then great i would welcome him. if he wants to go to the hawks then dont let the door hit you on your way out.

Then he shouldn't have said what he did - publicly on ESPN!!!!!!!

That's when I started thinking a sign-and-trade was probably the best option. It sounds as if both the Suns and JJ wanted him back in Phoenix, but their hardball games got a bit too rough.

JJ wanted to make sure Atlanta came through with a Max contract. Phoenix wanted JJ at a cheaper rate. Their respective rhetoric were aimed at this third party, not each other. But they forgot that this rhetoric had unexpected effects.

Can JJ expect to say things like he did about his teammates and how "he prefers to be in Atlanta" and not damage his relationships with his team and his teammates? Can the Suns expect to lowball him and cut down his offers without pissing the guy off? Both parties were stupid.

He'll average 26/6/6, be considered a top-5 SG like he deserves to be - but win 20-35 games a season for the next three years and shoot 39% from the field.

I wonder how he will like seeing double-teams on a consistent basis without a shooter or a low-post big-man to pass it to. That's right - no shooter, no big man. Even a Pachalia wouldn't make this better - he's a mid-range shooter that would be a perfect complement for an Amare, but not a low-post threat himself. An Eddy Curry would seem to help, but it looks like the Hawks have given up/lost out on him (signing Pachalia).

And there's a little issue of loyalty. The Suns benched a petulent Penny Hardaway and sacrificed wins to develop him. Sure, they mishandled things last offseason, and this one. But JJ would not be half the player he is now without the Suns, and he should know that.

JJ has dug his own grave and now he'll have to lie down in it.
