Brett Favre??? When I see McCown I don't see Brett Favre I actually see a faster version of Kent Graham. Outside of foot speed they have striking similarities:
1. Helmet problems. Why the hell can't McCown keep his chin strap fastened? Every single play that thing is undone and sometimes he is fastening his chin strap with 5 seconds on the play clock. As for Graham I used to think he was the goofiest looking quarterback in history. His helmet never seemed to fit right and neither does McCown's. When McCown runs it looks like his helmet falls down on his face and he can't see where he is going.
2. Fumblers at the most inopportune times. Anyone remember the 1997 game against the Vikings? The Cards dominated that game in every single aspect but somehow lost. Graham had an inexplicable fumble inside the 1 yard line that was the turning point of the game. Ditto for McCown (Atlanta).
3. The alltime keep my team close and still lose the game quarterbacks-Neither Graham nor McCown does anything that is Plummeresque and results in huge swings of points. Both guys generally keep their teams in games but seriously lack in ability to close the deal. The 1997 Cardinals could have easily been 5-0, but instead they experienced inexplicable heartrenching losses to Cincinatti, Washington, Tampa Bay and Minnesota and started the season 1-4. In each of those games the Cards dominated on both sides of the ball but somehow lost. Its hard to define that "it" that some guys have, but it isn't hard to recognize when guys don't have "it" and neither McCown or Graham have "it".
I am starting to think if we had gone with Shaun King from day #1 this team would be 3-2 at the very worst.
