P.S. I really enjoyed Jumanji as well. The studio bailed on the sequel so the creators had to rewrite what was supposed to be the sequel....and that became Zathura.

It was argued about during filming whether it was a true sequel or not - it is based on another work by the same author.

Both Jumanji and Zathura are based on novels by Chris Van Allsburg; in the book version of Zathura, the Zathura board game is found inside Jumanji, but an astronaut living inside Zathura claims to have created Jumanji.

Many have settled on calling it a spiritual sequel: a successor to a work of fiction which does not directly build upon the storyline established by a previous work as do most traditional prequels or sequels, but nevertheless features many of the same elements, themes, and styles as its source material.

Jake Kasdan Will Direct the Jumanji Remake

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/647763-jake-kasdan-jumanji-remake#EPtDpDUhf2gP3EIL.99

The upcoming Jumanji remake, currently planned to hit theaters December 25 of this year, has now found a director in Bad Teacher and Sex Tape helmer Jake Kasdan. Deadline has the news, reporting that Kasdan will work from a screenplay by High Fidelity and Con Air scribe Scott Rosenberg with frequent Bad Robot executive producer Jeff Pinkner serving as a consultant.

The Jumanji remake will return to the source material that inspired the 1995 film, re-adapting Chris Van Allsburg’s 1985 children’s book in which a magical board game causes jungle plants and creatures to invade a quiet American suburb. Directed by Joe Johnston, the 1995 big screen take on Jumanji stars the late Robin Williams opposite Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, Jonathan Hyde, Bebe Neuwirth, David Alan Grier and Patricia Clarkson.

Another completely unnecessary remake. Why do they need to update it? It's perfectly acceptable that someone else finds the game and a new adventure begins. Why do we need to revisit the original story? I always had hoped for a sequel. Well sort of got that with Zathura but not the same.

Stupid.

Because Hollywood is completely devoid of creativity. With scant few exceptions, all we get anymore are sequels, reboots, remakes

Now with Robin's death this is not just some ordinary remake to me. It feels like a slap in the face. I won't be seeing this one.

I was in Hawaii when they were filming this last year. We did an ATV tour of Kualoa Ranch when they were filming. I had to pull over on the side of the trail as they were bringing in that chopper that was shown in the trailer.

Here is the gopro video I put together for it and the chopper is at about the 1 minute mark:

This actually looks pretty funny. I love Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart together. Throw in Jack Black and this should be a fun movie!

interesting observation: I think this movie would(ve) done great just as its own thing. Jungle Quest, or whatever.

But since they billed it as "Jumanji" they are getting the expected purist backlash.

We have a time share in Hawaii and go pretty much every other year. This ATV tour was one of our favorites. They have filmed so many movies at this location and you get to visit a bunch of them.

More than 50 movies and TV shows have been filmed at Kualoa over the years, including Paradise, Hawaiian Style, Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, 50 First Dates, You, Me and Dupree, Hawaii Five-0, Mighty Joe Young, Pearl Harbor, Windtalkers, Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island and Lost.

Oahu.

Up towards the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Nice. I have only been to the airport in Oahu. My kids are going there for 2 weeks on the 11th to visit family. Excited for them.

I just looked up the tour, might pay for it and have my mom take the kids

uh... that looks pretty damn funny.

Love that the Rock will do movies where he plays completely against type. He was freaking hilarious in Central Intelligence as a unicorn loving CIA agent gone rogue.

Meh. I read there is a scene in the movie where they show where Robin William's character Allen lived while in Jumanji. Weird because they said it's a remake not a sequel.
