why doesn't he just say who it is? He's supposedly a reporter, isn't he? why keep it a secret?

Wonder that to. He could brag about having it first. Maybe proffesional courtesy, meaning "here is a little nugget that you can talk about just dont mention the name and you will be our first interview?"

excerpt from Urban's latest blog

"the front office is working on filling its vacant pro personnel spot talking to multiple candidates (although I don’t think anything is necessarily imminent)."

I've been told today that nobody I know can tell me who it is. I was told that it's to help Graves or move Graves. The thing is Graves does not speak well to players. Specifically Darnell and Bolden who just don't want to speak to him any more. Others are also on that band wagon. This will let Graves manage the cap, while someone more player friendly gets the deals done.

I can see that, given the personalities involved.

just to speculate WILDLY

just as when Whis took the head coaching gig, a condition was that he had to keep Clancy -- and then by getting his team to the SB, Whis had the mojo to let Clancy go.

well -- maybe when Michael took the Presidents gig, a condition was that he had to keep Graves, and with the team getting to the SB................

Rod is heading into the final year of his contact

Could it be that Mr. B is about to step down with his age and Michael assumes his role as owner and RG moves into Michael's role as President with a new GM coming to town? maybe?

Will there be enough time for the new FO personnel man to evaluate the draft and get on board w/ what the rest of the FO wants to do for it being this close to the draft?

You just made a BOLDFACED LIE in print. Nobody ever says DE/OLB without meaning a guy who can do both, depending on the defensive formation (4-3/3-4). Nobody. Find me one single example to the contrary and I will eat crow forever. You and I both know what you meant and so does everyone else. You were wrong, why not just man up and admit it? There isn't a poster on here who hasn't been wrong on here before (except maybe joe?). Hell, I've already taken back numerous things in this thread alone.

How is it comparable when one guy's stats practically double the other guy's stats?? I guess Warner and Kerry Collins both played about the same his year even though Kurt threw for twice as many yards and TDs as Kerry did huh?

Oh and BTW, the team just had Mike Wright in for a visit this past week and if he is signed Campbell will be on the bench again. You can bank on that.
All of my apologies to you, fine sir. We also need RB/C help.

Interesting note on Wright from the Boston Globe.

Wright would play end in Arizona's stricter 3-4 defense. He was a useful backup in New England, but couldn't come close to replacing Antonio Smith.

Why do so many of you think Mike Wright will start over CC? How many times have you seen him play? Everything I have read on the guy indicates he has a great motor and is a great role player, but should be a career backup.

Are you just getting so giddy that we are bringing in new people that you are overrating him and underrating CC? Do you just think CC sucks? Or have you really watched Wright play a lot and are making educated comments based on the performance and potential of each players?

I am baffled as to why you would think Mike Wright would be a shoe-in replacement for Antonio as the starting DE instead of CC.

Did I say that Campbell was a "monumental bust"?? Oops, no I didn't. You were exagerating. McFadden ran the nickelback spot in his rookie year and had 10 less tackles than Campbell, but got a sack and a pick.

Well you did give Campbell a "U" for underperforming. Wouldn't you also give a "U" to McFadden?

I just think your criteria is not fair. You seem to expect every draft pick to immediately perform to where they are drafted and I don't think that is a reasonable standard.

Sometimes a player may be drafted on potential. Teams draft guys all the time that they expect won't be starting their first year. Campbell wasn't drafted to be a starter last year as he had veterans ahead of him. He played and contributed which is what most thought he would do.

I think your "U" is unfair and I think one could reasonably apply that same criteria to McFadden and label him as underperforming too. That is the point I was trying to make.

binkar, I don't think people feel that Wright would start over CC. We need Wright to be part of the rotation. Personally, I feel/hope that CC will start and that Wright or someone else will provide depth. But we do need to add a DT, unless the team feels Bryan Robinson can fill that role. JMO.

maybe Graves is tired of dealing with the likes of Boldin and Dockett as well. A stronger personality may be a good thing. Graves isn't the type to tell Boldin and Dockett where to go.

Don't you know anything yet?

Every FA out there from every other team and every team's ageing castoff together with every team's chronically injured jettisoned players are all better than the guys we have who made it to the Super bowl. Sheesh.

jaguarpaw81, I know you changed your mind about Campbell. My question is still about McFadden and if you liked the signing?

Using the criteria you used and the reasoning you used on our own draft picks wouldn't you consider a player who was drafted in the 2nd round in 2005 and has only started 18 games in 4 years underperforming or even a bust?

I think you are unfair or unduly harsh with our picks. Look around the league and see how other teams drafts went and compare them to ours. I still think a lot of teams would trade their picks for ours in the last 4-5 years.

McFadden has always been a beast. As a rookie he was the guy who shut down Reggie Wayne on back to back plays to save the AFC title game in '05. He was the nickel his first two years and most consider the nickelback as a starter because they spend so much time on the field. By that standard, he has started every game he has played in a Steeler uni. Last year he started like 13/15 games, including the playoffs as the #2.

Just because some other teams suck at drafting doesn't make our mistakes any more acceptable IMO. You think I am too harsh and I think your a bit koolaided up--doesn't matter. Can we both agree that we're going back for a ring this year
