There’s a saying on local radio up here that the cap is crap. You can make that look however you want by shuffling some things around. The real question is how much money out of his pocket MB wants to pay cousins right away. That will decide if he’s coming here or not.

Mike Sando said the same thing to me when I talked to him about Cousins a few weeks ago. Said if the Cards wanted him, they could work out a way to make it happen.

2017 - Salary CAP - $171, 827, 118

QB salary CAP hits:
CP $24, 125,000 (14.25%)
DS $4, 050,000 (2.39%)
BG $895K (0.53%)
MB $319K (0.19%)
TOTAL: $29, 389, 000
% of CAP: 17.36%

The adjusted salary CAP for 2018: $178, 801, 786

So.. it's possible to sign a Cousins, cheaper backup and add a draftee for slightly more CAP space and keep the cost of the QB room at under 20% of total CAP.

Yes both can be fit. I’m hearing no on Cousins despite what might be the best offer. I’m hearing Norwell likes the Cards unofficial offer and there’s a better than average chance they get him unless someone like Cleveland gets silly.

I thought Norwell was already set on NY?

Highly appreciate the insight, Harry. Hoping we can sway Cousins in the midnight hour. I wasn't excited for Norwell, but if the guys who worked this closely with him in the past are so convinced of his value, it builds my hype train even if we miss out in the QB area.

Sounds good to me. Sign Norwell and draft Will Hernandez and our line suddenly looks pretty darn good.
What are you hearing on the Ohio State center Billy Price. With his injury he should have dropped a round or two. Do you think he might be there in round three?

And it usually leaves them in shambles down the road.

When has that happened recently? Teams get around cap space all the time. Players get cut for cap reasons when they aren’t worth the cap hit, not to get under the cap.

The cap can, and hopefully will, be massaged to fit in some high profile free agents.

My only question is that this goes against the way Keim and the cards have approached free agency in the past.

Instant upgrade big time. Something that is the #1 priority to me playing in the NFC West and keeping whatever QB's they do get upright.

He's been described as a big family guy, and in all honesty, I'd rather live in Phoenix than I would MN.

I know we view these guys as mercenaries, but being around family and a place you're able to enjoy year-round (as opposed to deathly cold, snowy winters), is a factor for a wife and kids and such, especially for a guy who has already put as much in the bank as Kirk. (Trust me guys, I'm trying to figure out all of the possible reasons he can come here because I want him to be a Cardinal so much, I know I'm reaching some.)

And since he grew up in cold and snowy Michigan, he knows how bad Minnesota winters can be, and since he visits his sister, how awesome Arizona Fall/Winter is.

If i'm Cousins I tell the Cardinals sign Norwell and you got a deal. If they draft Hernandez that takes care of the other guard spot then sign and draft two more wide receivers and Cousins will have a good offense as well as a good defense to make the playoffs for years.

Does anyone think AZ would be an easier sell to Cousins, if BA hadn't retired?
