Injuries are part of the game. A player could get hurt while being in on only a few plays a game or being in on 40 plays a game. They just have to monitor Ellington and if he starts coming up with a assortment of nicks and bruises that start to slow him down you back off how many touches he gets. If he continues along and is doing fine getting 25-30 touches you keep running him in there.

It seems the guys who have avoided injury for the most part are the ones that have a knack of avoiding a lot of big hits and use the sidelines as a safety net. They also know when its time to go down and avoid the piling on and when they need to try for that extra yard or two. Hopefully Ellington is one of these guys who can sense when to go down or step out and when they need to give that little extra because the team needs it. I am not saying to take plays off however if you know that you can't get anything more out of a play then save it for the next play.

Or in OTAs like poor Sean Lee. ACL, MCL and meniscus. That's rough. Just goes to show, even in non-contact drills, you can still suffer significant injury

You're not afraid of breaking our weapon?

Are the Chiefs afraid of break JC? Eagles with LeSean McCoy?

Arians made comments last year of protecting Ellington. Either they are more convinced he can handle the load now or they are being overly aggressive in his "touch" count.

FYI

Not one RB averaged 20 carries per game in 2013.

(Pederson was just under the 20 average)

FYI, I know you mentioned carries, so here is the touch info:

Lesean McCoy led the NFL in rushes - 314

And he averaged 20+ touches / game.

So did Matt Forte, Marshawn Lynch, Jamaal Charles, Chris Johnson, and Eddie Lacy just missed it by 1 touch.

1. LeSean McCoy*+ · PHI 366
2. Matt Forte* · CHI 363
3. Marshawn Lynch* · SEA 337
4. Jamaal Charles*+ · KAN 329
5. Chris Johnson · TEN 321
6. Eddie Lacy* · GNB 319
7. Ryan Mathews · SDG 311
8. Adrian Peterson* · MIN 308
9. Knowshon Moreno · DEN 301
10. Frank Gore* · SFO 292
