Nothing too shocking:

1. For RB, said he heard the Cards were looking at CJ Spiller, maybe Darren Mc Fadden of the Raiders. Called Spiller a "luxury"

2. Will make an offer to Cro, but doubtful he is back. The team thinks Bethel is ready to step forward (and is under co tract next year, and they want to extend him)

3. Thinks Fitz will work something out

4. The football guys want Dockett back-- maybe an extension that lowers his price this next year.

5. Team wants to upgrade interior of the line. Make or break year for Cooper (duh) and they will look for help

6 D Wash, if reinstated, will be kept. They will have a backup plan if he messes up again.

how can they think bethel is ready, maybe he played 10 snaps as cb in 3 years--long shot
what is the reason to extend a 34 years old player coming from a serious knee injury
i d prefer using money somewhere else

I could easily see Darren McFadden on this team next season.

Bethel will be pushed somehow. Either FA or draft pick, possibly both. But you can see he has the potential.

DD is the soul of the D. You keep him around.

I'd rather have McFadden than Spiller although I wouldn't dismiss him either. The only real issue I have with Spiller is durability. He seems to have an issue staying healthy.

As much as I love Ellington, McFadden would be an amazing fit, I think. He's capable of carrying a full load, and doesn't have a ton of tread. Spiller doesn't really impress me, as I think he has Ellington's skillset, and can't be complimentary.

Bethel does not seem like a legit option at CB. But, we do still have Powers... right?

Nothing too shocking:

1. For RB, said he heard the Cards were looking at CJ Spiller, maybe Darren Mc Fadden of the Raiders. Called Spiller a "luxury"

BA said last year he wanted to add a RB similar in skill set to Sir Juke so that the offense wouldn't have to change much due to personnel. Adding Spiller would fit that bill---but---then adding a power RB in the draft would make sense. McFadden is intriguing---imagine adding him and C Stephen Wisniewski? Although, it wouldn't surprise if the Raiders tag Wisniewski. They really should.

Note: I really liked what i saw in Kerwynn Williams---I think he's a keeper---which is why adding Spiller would be a luxury of sorts. Whereas, adding a complimentary power RB to Ellington and Williams makes sense.

2. Will make an offer to Cro, but doubtful he is back. The team thinks Bethel is ready to step forward (and is under co tract next year, and they want to extend him)

BA said that Bethel has a much talent as a CB as any CB on the roster. It's time to find out if that's true. Steve Keim will add depth and competition through FA and/or the draft.

3. Thinks Fitz will work something out

I think the opposite. Fitz is not comfortable with his role and he wants to play a bunch more years, which means he does not want to be subjected to the kind of added pounding his body took this past year, for having to block. Plus, when players are blocking inside the box, the worry is of getting rolled up on the legs from behind. Fitz likely has in mind which teams he would like to play for and I think he will ask the Cardinals to allow his agent to see if he can muster up some trade proposals so that at least the Cardinals could receive value in return should he move on.

4. The football guys want Dockett back-- maybe an extension that lowers his price this next year.

What does he mean by the football guys? The coaches? The players? Does this imply that the FO would just as soon look elsewhere? One of the issues is how well Frostee Rucker and Tommy Kelly graded out, particularly in the pressure they were getting in the backfield. While Dock's leadership would be missed, it may be a wiser move to try to re-sign Kelly and let Dock go. That would be sad to loyal fans and teammates, but this is how the Patriots manage to stay competitive year after year---they don't get sentimental when it comes to doing what's best for the team.

5. Team wants to upgrade interior of the line. Make or break year for Cooper (duh) and they will look for help

No question about it. It starts with another sentimental decision of what to do with Lyle Sendlein---and then how to upgrade the interior through FA and the draft. My hunch is that the FO sees Ted Larsen as a viable option at center and they are intrigued with developing Anthony Steen. Thus, I think there will be two guards added---one in FA and one in the draft. Note too that one of the Gs they just signed to a future's contract, Antoine McClain (6-5, 336, Clemson) is a big mauler who could make a splash if he can sustain his blocks. Like Cooper last year, McClain has had a tendency to spend too much time on the ground.

6 D Wash, if reinstated, will be kept. They will have a backup plan if he messes up again.

This is somewhat surprising to me given the egregious nature of Washington's offenses, his disloyalty and his deception. What we don't know is what kind of communication Steve Keim and BA have had with Washington and whether they are re-establishing some lost trust. Certainly the Cardinals would like some return on their investment---but not to the continued detriment of the team and the organization. Thus, it would be interesting to know what conversations have taken place and what the current understanding is. If D-Wash had a conscience and is smart, maybe he has assured BA&SK that as a result of their investment in him that he will repay the team by extending his contract a couple of more years at a bargain salary---something like that. That would show proper contrition on his part.

What really hurts here too is that the Cardinals won't know until after the draft what Washington's status with the NFL is. Thus, should the Cardinals make the drafting of an ILB a priority? If they re-sign Larry Foote---that at least buys them some time to develop a draft pick behind him. Ideally that draft pick wouldn't have to be one of the first three picks---because if Washington is indeed returning at some point it sure would be nice to have upgraded in other spots of need.

Cards should also go after a RB in the draft as this is one of the best years for RBs. Very deep class, could get a good one on Rd 3 or even 4.

1. If Cro leaves, and he will, a CB will be taken in round one or two, if we haven't signed one in FA. They can say what they want about Bethel, but until he does "it", he's still a question mark.
2. Durability of McFadden and Spiller is the issue. Not their talent. Is McFadden big enough to qualify as the big back?
3. I love Fitz and hope he stays and retires as a Cardinal. Money is important to him (like everyone else) and he'll get more in Arizona. If he leaves, WR is a big void, but Fitz also knows that he has more leverage to be targeted in Arizona, than anywhere else. I don't think that playing outdoors in NE or Denver would appeal to him. Dallas or Indy make more sense. If he does leave I just hope it's not to Dallas.

Heard Calais might rework his deal either this year or next.

Well his deal is up in 2016, so I would guess they would explore it then. LOL

Honestly, he is a candidate to be extended which would lower his cap hit. His production is good, high cap number, and is still young.

I wonder how Jurecki is dealing with all of the hate mail due to attacking Cooper?

Justin Bethel played 97 defensive snaps last year alone. That's nearly 10% of the total. He wasn't an instant All Pro out there (obvs), but he also wasn't a clear liability.

I have no problem with going with a cornerback platoon of Peterson, Powers, Matthieu, and Bethel with an additional mid- to late-round draft pick.

As for Dockett, we're talking an extension to lower his 2015 cap number (which is ungainly) and give him something fair. Tommy Kelly is 34; Frostee Rucker is 31. There's experienced, youngish depth already on the roster. The key is lowering that cap number to something fair.

LOL.

McFadden would such a typical dissapointing signing. Bad vision and soft it would be like having Beanie again.

Beanie ran for 1k yards for us and would be a good compliment to Andre when healthy.

Dont forget, we have a stud running back. We need someone to help spell him so he can stay healthy and full of energy.

Cut him? Not sure what other backup plan they have. The cupboard is bare.

To be sure, though, the league year hasn't even begun. There are seven months before the Arizona Cardinals take the field in a meaningful game. A lot can happen between then and now.

True. It sounds as though they have a backup plan now though. Not sure I believe it.

I thought I saw somewhere that cutting Washington would save the Cardinals virtually no money on the cap. So I understand why people want him off the team, but from a business standpoint, it makes no sense. Unless they are really concerned he'll get in trouble again. He's been quiet since he's been suspended though.

But won't he be suspended the 1st 6 games or so though?

not sure why everyone assumes this is the case. i'll believe the NFL punishes him under the old rules when I see it. They can't afford more public relations nightmares and I'm betting he gets 6 games regardless. It's not the NFL's fault they couldn't adjudicate his crime before he got suspended for something else.
