I would do that deal with Atlanta. Teheran is the same age or younger I believe than Bauer, and isnt the head case Bauer is, throws just as hard. Simmons is arguably better than Didi. Not sure if you move one to 2b, and then put Hill to 3b.

Out of curiosity, where did you hear this? Your 'source' on the Mariners package was way off.

Blocking the deal.

From what I'm hearing, the offer was "substantial" and included Dustin Ackley, Taijuan Walker and Nick Franklin, however, Upton has Seattle on his "no-trade" list.

Damn. That would have been a MAJOR haul for AZ too.

Only one "way off" was Ackley. He otherwise was pretty close to on with this.

That's very realistic.

Obviously Simmons is better but if we get him, what a complete failure of a trade the Bauer for Didi was.

I wouldnt call it a failure. Simmons and DD would make a stellar middle infield, with terrific range. Move Hill to 3B, Goldy at 1B, and that is pretty solid. Only concern is if the youngsters can contribute at the plate enough to compensate for Upton. I personally have seen enough of the poor approach at the plate by Upton, and his lack of hitting opposite field, or having a clue what to do with 2 strikes.

Analyzing the Bauer deal based purely on his rank as a prospect is flawed. They obviously traded him because they think he is too big a head case to work for the team.

If it turns out they are correct, it was a good deal. If they're wrong then they got robbed. Only time will tell. Personally I can't stand head case players. I'll take a team full of Aaron Hill's over a bunch of high potential headcase Bauer/Upton types any day.

If it turns out Bauer is a head case, the deal was still bad. They sold low, and got less than they could have gotten because they were looking for a SS. Now chances are they might acquire another SS who is better than Didi, making the Didi deal even worse.

Upton has also never been a headcase. Him being frustrated with himself does not change the fact that he has not run his mouth in the media, did not have issues with teammates, and has been a class act.

The Braves don't want to trade Teheran and Simmons in this deal and think the market for Upton has shrunk enough to where they feel they can do so without giving both.

Reportedly, KT is high on Teheran. Atlanta is countering with an offer involving Teheran, Nick Ahmed and Evan Gattis. Won't be enough fot KT to pull the trigger in my opinion but some of these names could be part of a bigger package with Teheran being the primary piece.

Disagree. Teheran is not a top prospect. I would rather have Bauer. Towers has no clue what he is doing with this franchise. He is doing a worse job than Byrnes. If this trade happens, it will have the same results as the Schilling trade to Boston.

Agreed. Towers is starting to remind me of that guy in your fantasy league that makes deals for the sake of making deals. The result is typically a roster that is worse than what it was to begin with.

Not sure why we want more SP prospects considering we have a lot of young, good caliber depth at that position.

You can never have too many elite pitching prospects because very few of them actually turn into elite major league pitchers.

This is what I was afraid of. Teams are just going to low-ball ARZ because they are past the point of no return with Upton, he won't re-sign with ARZ now so the team has to move him. Towers said he plans on making a move to solve the crowded OF before Spring Training which is about a month and a half away. TEX is also just waiting for ARZ to give Upton away and won't include either Andrus or Profar in any deal.

And we know that all pitching staffs have nothing but elite pitchers. Sorry but the statement just makes me laugh.

This would be a valid argument if the cost of acquiring said prospects was not astronomical. However, we are talking about trading a guy who is 1 year removed from an MVP caliber season and being paid well below market over the next 3 seasons for a bunch of guys that may or may not pan out.

Honestly we can talk about the prospects all we want, and we can talk ourselves into liking a deal but Upton can not be replaced. He is a uber-talented young star with potential to be a MVP and already a 2 time all-star at age 25. He's a homegrown talent and a guy who has been good in the community. He has his faults but so does everyone else, we just don't watch those guys day in and out so we can't pick out their flaws.

Towers has forced his hand, he has ruined his relationship with Upton even if this is just a business. Emotions are still involved and I don't think they can be fixed. Best case we get a good deal but lose out on a star who could have been the greatest Diamondback of all time.

These two points form the situation which has to be faced. Kendrick gave up on Upton publicly, who could have been great, but was not progressing in that direction. Right or wrong, it has gone too far to head off a divorce.

Upton has had great seasons and even though he played through a injury last season, played good. This breakup is not on Upton, its on Kendrick and Towers. **** em
