could be that they dont think he is worth millions a year.

this could be part of it as well...but no one in the entire league even brought him in for a visit? you don't think that's strange...at all?

Could it not be that Kerry took a look at his savings account, stock portfolio etc., asked himself "how much money do I need to make every conceivable friend, loved-one and distant relative financially 'comfortable' forever - and at what risk to my general physical health 5, 10, 25 years from now?"

He may have simply set a price on the potential wear & tear to his body that no team was willing to pay.

I just don't see this as a realistic scenario for most professional athletes that can still play ball.

id say if I had made millions a year to play and am now 30 and vested into the league and the best I could get was the minimum, I might turn it down too.

Why go through the grind for less than you think you are worth? Especially if your passion is modeling, acting and etc.

have you seen this happen a lot before with NFL players?

Why go through the grind for less than you think you are worth?

why didn't Karlos Dansby, Winston or Abrahams just call it quits then? Probably because a) NFL Players pretty much know that no amount of money is ever enough and b) because NFL Players who are still playing at a high level always believe another big payday is right around the corner.

look, if this kind of thing happened a lot, where a very good player at age 30-31 just simply quit the game, I'd say okay...doesn't seem fishy at all. but that kind of thing doesn't happen a lot. the majority of these guys wayyyyyyy overstay their welcome in the league.

Especially if your passion is modeling, acting and etc.

has this been confirmed somewhere that Rhodes "passion" is modeling and acting? has he actually ever come close to making money doing either one? and it's not like he hasn't had time to do both. plenty of NFL guys have been able to act/model/do commercials in the off-season.

and no one else ever reported such a thing. there was no report that any team actually brought him in. haven't we gone over this already?

rhodes himself says his dream and goal is to model and act when his career is over.

He also said himself he definitely wants to play this year but people keep suggesting he may have decided he made enough money and quit.

The original report, not the NFL.com one was worded in a way that it sort of suggested even the guy who wrote the story wasn't quite sure he believed Rhodes had interest from 4 teams.

right...when his career is over and yet in the article you posted he said he still wanted to play football right now. kinda leads me to believe he doesn't want his career to be over.

Yep. And I am pretty sure his new team would be revealed in about a week. Spent too much time around Rod Graves?

IN the story about having 4 teams interested. And in others since. The closest I can find to him even suggesting he might not play is in an AZ Central story where he again says he's looking to play but "is prepared for life after football if nobody does sign him."

That article quoted Horton saying they were sticking with their roster in Cleveland for now but Rhodes was one of the players they were looking at if something happened and they needed help. That was a month ago.

As for the gay rumors stuff, you can't find an article easily these days involving Rhodes that doesn't mention the idea he might be having a hard time because of those rumors. So if that's such a ridiculous idea, there's an awful lot of people out there asking him a ridiculous question.

It's been an interesting topic of conversation for me ever since (and note to anyone who thinks I'm about to be really callous here...this is just why this is interesting to me) the show I work on did the Gay Football Player comes out Finale last season. my writer's room had a four day long conversation of how this would be handled, really heated discussions about what would happen, talked with NFL players, etc. etc. and it's just one of those things that I would find even more interesting if my favorite team was in any way shape or form involved in cutting him because of the rumors.

it's more a football/society topic in general at this point for me.

well...that and the fact that I think our starting safeties are going to be truly awful.

We probably would have won on Sunday with him out there. Glad the Bidwills and BA need to make a statement over actually winning football games.
