I am SO ready to move on to Orton. Sadly, I don't think our front office is even remotely playing the game right. We should have told the Eagles that they had by midnight tonight to take our 2nd round pick and a 4th or 2nd and Hightower/Wells/Toller. If they don't like it we are pulling the offer and going in another direction. We cannot wait on the Eagles to decide, while other QB options dry up; doing so only gives them leverage.

please don't get kolb if it means giving up drc, I saw we just go after Orton like most people on this board think giving up a 1st or a 2nd and drc for Kolb who is really unproven is way to much. I really hope all the reports are wrong and we surprise everyone and get Orton.

That's because anyone not completely drunk off their ass on Kolb Koolaid can see the situation for what it is.

The Eagles are asking for 2 first round picks for their backup QB who's started 7 games last year and only played well in 3 of them.

The only question is which team is dumb enough to bend over for them, I so hope it's not us.

As of now its nobody. The Eagles are pissed because all their leverage is now gone. Kolb is likely to throw a tantrum to the media and the situation in philly could get real ugly (he hasn't shown up to the Eagles training facility).

Whisenhunt - "Back to Football" Presser 07-26-2011

For what it's worth, a reporter named Joe at the press conference tried to bait Whisenhunt into revealing something about a DRC trade possibility by asking him (at 11:12), "Is it hard, if you have to part with a player like DRC, is it hard, but, knowing that the return can be greater for the long run?"

Whisenhunt responded, "I don't have an option like that that I'm facing right now so it's kinda hard for me to answer that question. That's all been speculation. I haven't said anything like that or even talked about that. So I don't know where that came from. It did not come from us. So that's not even been a thought in my mind." He went on to comment more generally on the issue of losing players that he "had a lot of respect for, who have played for you" - "you have to do that in this business." He referred to the players who had left last offseason.

Now of course there are plenty of reasons why Whisenhunt might have responded in this fashion, but my impression has been that Whis tends to play things close to the vest or speak in coach-speak that doesn't reveal much - but i don't recall him saying things that were deliberately misleading (e.g. regarding the kinds of players the team was looking at in the draft, etc.).

If the Cardinals were to end up trading DRC for Kolb, his statement that parting with DRC is not even an option that he's facing and not even a thought in his mind could only be interpreted as a bald-faced lie. If Whis had skipped those comments and gone right to the part about it being part of the business to part with good players, i'd find it easier to believe that trading DRC is a possibility, but from listening to his response, i don't get that impression.

Or maybe that's just wishful thinking - i'm pretty firmly in the "don't give up too much for Kolb" camp. In fact, i'm pretty firmly in the "i'd rather have Orton than Kolb even if the price were the same" camp.

The next day or two should certainly be interesting!

Saw Trent Dilfer on ESPN late yesterday talking about the Cardinals' quarterback quandry. He basically said that in his opinion, Kyle Orton is a solid NFL quarterback and he has him rated in the 13-18 range league-wide right now. He also said Kevin Kolb may be a better quarterback in 3-4 years, but that right now Orton is better and if a team wants to win NOW, then Orton is the better choice. He actually came out and said he couldn't understand why the Broncos were willing to trade him.

I don't know why Whisenhunt has developed a severe case of man-love for Kolb, but it seems absolutely impossible for me to conceive that this franchise actually thinks that they are better off with Kevin Kolb alone than they would be with Kyle Orton AND DRC. That my friends is the definition of insanity.

Stop the madness!

I hope Kolb winds ups up staying with the Eagles. I am done with the Kolb circus.

Agree. I had so much optimism yesterday about this deal getting done. Now, I'm over it and hoping the Cards don't give up DRC and a 2nd.

Like a lot of you, I think that's just too steep for a guy that Kolb who isn't really a proven guy.

I've always been a Kolb guy, especially since he's (reportedly) tied in with Fitz, but I'm now tilting towards Orton. Of course if that great poker player, Rod Graves, calls Andy Reid's bluff and gets him for two number two's, then I'm back on the Kolb bandwagon. "But I want my QB, and I want him now!!"

Another definition of insanity is paying attention to that notorious Cards hater, Trent Dilfer. ;)

No. It can simply be interpreted that DRC, as part of a deal, has not been discussed or contemplated AT THIS POINT!

It's not as if we can just cast our line in the water and magically come up with Orton. It might or might not happen (Miami still needs a QB).

My hope is that we make Orton (for a 3rd or even a 2nd) our #1 priority with Kolb (for no more than a second round pick) our second priority, a next-echelon QB (like Thigpen, Hoyer or Flynn) our third priority and Kolb (for DRC or a #1) a zero priority.

If Miami signs Orton, we are screwed. It would remove the very tiny bit of leverage we have in this scenario, and our backs would be against the wall.

I know the coaches wont say it, the guys who cover the Cards for a living and respect Fitz wont say it, but I have a strong feeling that we can not under estimate the power Fitz has in this decision.

Remember when Fitz said in a recent interview concerning a question about an extension, he something to the effect "we will see just how much they appreciate me" or something to that effect. He could have been talking about Kolb.

Fitz is the face of the franchise, and for good reason, great player who is also a great dude. Just to show how much power or how big of a voice he might have, he asked and got permission from the Cardinals to bring his offseason coach Jerry Sullivan with him to Flagstaff. The Cards are literally letting Fitz bring his OWN coach to camp even though we already have a WR coach.

I am probably way off base and I readily admit that, but it is a strong feeling that I have none the less.

This is exactly what I think.

Best scenario for us is the Dolphins sign Vince Young.

How can you remotely justify that statement.

The few games I watched of Skelton plus he has a better arm and great poise in the pocket. Skelton has the size, arm and pocket awareness to be a great QB. Comparing Kolb and Skelton for potential I would take Skelton. Who knows which one will have a better career. I do think Kolb would play better right away but I think Skelton has more talent than Kolb does and would be a better player down the road.

After one day....

I never wanted the guy anyway, so, yeah, one day is my limit with this.

That's what scares me.

I only see two scenarios at this point. We are either going to overpay for Kolb or we are going to tell the Eagles we aren't interested in their asking price and wind up getting some DA type QB that no one else wants.

Either way, we are screwed. Doom and gloom on day 2. Awesome, lol.

It removes leverage for both sides, maybe moreso for the Eagles. The Cardinals could still go out and get lesser guys like Edwards or Thigpen. The Eagles don't have any other suitors if Miami isn't in the game.

Thigpen signed with the Bills.
