It removes leverage for both sides, maybe moreso for the Eagles. The Cardinals could still go out and get lesser guys like Edwards or Thigpen. The Eagles don't have any other suitors if Miami isn't in the game.

and neither of those are real options.

Wait, doesn't that just mean the Eagles would not accept what the Cards were willing to pay? If they trade for Kolb, does that automatically mean they overpaid?

Both. Here's what I see happening ...

I think the Eagles will say that they want DRC and a first (or second) rounder. They know we are in desperate need of a QB and the other QBs available are starting to find/sign with teams. To me, that is too much, and I would hope it would be too much for the front office to pay. So, I guess the Cards make a counter offer, the Eagles say no and it's all over. Then, since the Cards screwed around with this issue, we'll be forced to take whatever is left. Whiz will feed us some "we're confident in our new QB" crap and we'll be miserable.

I really hope I am wrong. Crow for lunch sounds delicious.

He meant guys like Thigpen. :)

OIC.

In retrospect, if we're going veteran option, why in the hell didn't we have any in McNabb? I realize he's not a good long term fit, but we could be scraping the bottom of the barrel soon here.

I really hope the progress isn't the Cards freaking out about Miami's interest in Orton and giving them DRC + 2nd...

Sounds realistic. I could see Bulger coming in and leading the cards to another 5 win year. If that happens the Fitzgerald and Whisenhunt era will be over in AZ come January.

Kolb is the best guy available based on moxy and intangibles, and whenever you make a move for a QB that is all you can really go on. Aaron Rodgers was a potential QB with moxy and intangibles until he got his shot.

I will be ok with any QB unless it is Bulger. Vince Young would provide excitement if nothing else. Orton would be competent and after last year that would be nice. I think Kolb could be special. But I know Bulger is garbage and if that happens.......

Actually, I didn't know Thigpen had signed anywhere. I actually meant Thigpen.

But still, there are more QBs available than there are teams vying for Kolb--even if they're not as attractive.

I, thankfully, do not see us getting Bulger. He has already stated he is fine being the backup in Baltimore.

Vince Young is intriguing and I wouldn't mind seeing him play for the Cards, but we know that's not gonna happen.

Ugh. Can we just do a deal already?

See Jersey, this is where it pays off to be a fairly new Cards fan. I don't have all those crushing years of disappointment under my belt.

I'm able to look at all of this with massive amounts of hope. :p

Why would I not be surprised and we get neither guy and end up with Bulger? Seriously, the Cards better not get screwed on this deal.

in matters such as these....it seams it would make sense to have a deal agreed upon with the player and his agent before you even start negotiating with the team....since the player has permission to talk deals.....cause if we cannot make him happy, no sense in dealing with the team.

That may be the real hang up.

I thought Drc and a 2nd was the Cards offer but the Eagles wanted Drc and a 1st.

Drc and a 2nd would be way too much let alone a 1st. :(

the next 48 hours? so... when no one is left and we're up against it?

stupid. this team should make a drop dead date of today or go get Orton at this point. i fear they're letting the eagles drag them along until the market it completely dry and then they'll have us completely over a barrel.

That may be the real hang up.

whatever deal they make with this guy should be backloaded, and stacked with yearly roster bonuses....that way he has the opportunity to make his 75mil, but only if he plays well and the team keeps him......would hate to see the Cards give this guy 25-30 mil guaranteed.........roster bonuses are a good thing...
40 mil in salary over 5 years
15 mil signing bonus
maybe 20 mil in roster bonuses

that would give 5 years, 75mil,and allow some flexibility to release him if he does not play well.....
the numbers were just off the cuff, I am sure the resident capologists can do better...but I like the general idea

I'm terrified that we're not only going to mortgage the future for an uproven Kolb, but we're also going to damage the present by dealing away a position of strength (we don't have a lot of those...we should hold on to them when we can).

That said, hopefully Kolb comes in and is the player so many seem to expect him to be.

I honestly don't see Kolb solving the QB problem long term so I'm perfectly fine going after a less attractive option. I'm really wary of spending top dollar for an Andy Reid QB.

I'd trade a conditional pick for Kolb and nothing else, anywhere 1st-3rd depending on performance.

I thought 48 hours sure sounded like a long time also.
