Well we could of had it like this, so looking at it that way just allows one to forget what optimal most likely would have been (given our situation) to fool oneself that a lesser path is good enough.
Perhaps it is better, if he turns out to be a good player, but you make the deal with the info you have, and the info on Kolb leads to alot of ????
DRC
Orton (proven)
PP7
Kept 2nd rounder
Gave up
3-4th, or nil for Orton (besides contract)
An unproven Kolb could just as easily crash and burn, in which case we would have given up.
2nd rounder
Money
DRC
for a Bust
Draft picks are draft picks and always crapshoots. But trading a high future pick, a proven player, giving a huge contract, for an unknown is a completely different beast, especially when players are rarely traded for anything beyond 3-5th round compensation.
Hopefully he has a good head, which is something I don't have the knowledge of about him. I'll hope for the best, even if it doesn't change anything. But wherever we go from here, how we got there is very important. We got wherever we are going, in an un-optimal, bumbling fashion. Let's hope our margin of error in the future is more than what we gave up by being fools in this scenario. That's something we won't know for awhile.
That said, since Kolb is the guy, go Kolb, I'll be rooting for you. It ain't your fault our front office is often incompetent.
