I knew you had a brightside. :)

problem is i have NO FAITH that we will get a good veteran CB. darkside wins.

this team is beyond predictable. this move was predictable. not getting another CB who can play is predictable as well.

What was Philly's next best offer on the table... Jack Squat!

Keep him, then the Cardinals have a crap season and lose Fitz.

Fitz was the biggest leverage in this deal and keeping him was worth DRC.

Lombardi on NFL Network bottom line breaking news is saying it IS conditional.

Interesting, so 2nd would be the highest they could get if Kolb meets certian standards. If Lombardi is correct.

Terms will probably be fluid as they come out in full detail.

Now I'm reading it's an undisclosed second-round pick. So, I guess the report of it being conditional might have been erroroneous.

Speaking of tricks up their sleeves, don't signing bonuses now count towards the cap?

They always have, plus we dont know how much of the 22 mill is a signing bonus, how much is roster bonuses, how much is workout bonuses, if first two years of base salary is gauranteed, and so on.

Look at it this way too---the Cardinals didn't use the #5 pick on a younger QB...nor did they surrender it to get Kolb. So, in essence we got the QB we wanted and Patrick Peterson (who could well be the best player in the draft) for DRC and a 2012 #2. That's some good maneuvering on the Cardinals' part!

Excellent way of looking at this

Cardinals used:

#5 pick in draft
DRC
2nd rounder

Cardinals gained:

Top corner in draft
Young QB to build with who has a lot of potential
Likely Fitz extension

It isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

It could have been this:

Cards keep DRC
Keep 2nd rounder
Draft Blaine Gabbert

I think they're trying to determine whether it's a 2012 pick or a 2013 2d round pick.

Not only did the Cards overpay on the trade, they also overpaid on the contract.

Kolb: 5/63 (22+ million guranteed)

Rodgers: 6/65 (20 million guranteed)

Again---look at it this way...

What combination would you rather have?

Blaine Gabbert
DRC
2012 2nd rounder

or

Kevin Kolb
Patrick Peterson

When you look at it this way---the Cardinals deserve a good deal of credit.

Ubndisclosed could be the same thing as conditional so I would say that yet. I mean if you already know its a 2nd round pick why would it be undisclosed?

It's a 6 year 63 mil contract. It's an extension not a new contract.

Rodgers' contract is going to be upgraded---you can bet on that.

Andrew Sicilano:"The last 18 months the Eagles have traded two QB's for 2 2nd round picks, a fourth round pick and a 25 year old CB with 13 career INTs"

The Cards just got schooled.

Many fans are not wanting to see it this way. But I like.

Good post! I think Fitz wanted it the way it turned out.

Speaking of tricks up their sleeves, don't signing bonuses now count towards the cap?

Well, $20 mill guaranteed, if that means signing bonus, and that is over 6 years it comes out to $3.33 mill on the cap+the $1.whatever his salary was for this year. So approximately $5 million on the cap this season for him. We can get most of that back just be cutting Porter.

After cutting Hayes and Scud we had about $41 million cap space and had to spend $40 million. Kolb will be around $5 million if the numbers being reported are right. Sounds like PP7 will be somewhere between $3 and $4 million, rookies total will be $6.9 million. So that leaves $29 million that we have to spend to reach our floor.

If we cut Porter we'll get back $5.75 mill. We can cut Haggans and get $2.5 mill if we need to. We could cut Levi and get $5.03 mill. No one else makes much sense to cut for any reason. So it's possible for us to free up $13 mill more if we need, which would give us a grand total of $42-43 million more we'd have to spend on FAs, both our own and other teams.

Our RFAs will eat up some of that.
