We all saw it..

And when Kolb threw the INT, the cameras caught Skelton laughing.. Tells you all you need to know..

Kolb found Fitz..

Skelton found himself being a backup tonite..

That's what many were saying about Skelton last week. :(

I thought Kolb won the job last night.

Skelton choked.

I don't think Kolb won the job last night, but rather, gained significant ground in the competition.

I indicated last week, Skelton was about to lap Kolb, but now it is neck-and-neck. I still think Skelton has the edge, but he cannot have another 40% completion 18 QB rating game.

skelton had zero blocking and got decimated. once DJ young came out there was finally a pocket yet Kolb through two TERRIBLE picks. I dont think he won a damn thing honestly.

I think he gets the starting job...but calling it a "win" is a stretch. Nobody's a winner in this, that goes double for the Cardinals.

I really hope Kolb (or Skelton, or Lindley) can pull it together this season and play within themselves.

I also hope the Cards become a 65/35 run-first team; how stupid is it going to be if last night's 1st half playcalling is what we see all year? I get it if Whiz needed to see what he had so he called a lot more passes, but the team ran the ball pretty well last night for the most part.

Pariah,
I am with you on this. Cardinals have 3 RBs & LSH they can pound down opponents throats in 2012, control the clock, time of possession, etc. That will open things up downfield and Kolb is a better play action passer. Kolb stood in the pocket last night, kept plays alive, and 17-22 is pretty good. Im ok with the INTs as they can be corrected.

Go Cardinals!

The same can be said for Kolb and the Oakland game. One the series right before Skelton came in, Kolb was obliterated on two straights plays. Next series Skelton comes in and on the first two plays has all the time in the world. So, I guess they are even then, right?

So throwing a pick 6 and another pick 'wins' a QB the job? If that's the case, we have the dumbest coach alive. Kolb managed to get back into the race, I'll grant you that, but his performance 'won' nothing.

I just can't believe this. How can anyone say that Kolb won the job last night? IMO, no one has done anything to "win" the starting spot. If we were just about any other team in the league, the performance of these two guys through last night would have seen Kolb lose his battle for the backup spot and would have sent Skelton in search of a new career.

Exactly!!!! And Skelton had receivers drop several balls. The one INT was likely a timing route and King fell. Still should have checked it down but nonetheless. If we want to compare INTs Kolbs "I did not even see him" INT was the worst throw I have ever seen. Which guy did he not see? The one that caught the ball or the 3 other guys in blue that were all right there?

Kolb did not win anything. If he did it has more to do with his paycheck than his play.

I will give him credit, he did not look AS scared in the pocket last night. But he did not look very good either.

It comes down to who can perform better against Denver's scrubs next week, IMO. Yeah, that's the metric that I want to be the deciding factor...

I'm no football expert but did Skelton even look at Fitz way??? Of course, it depends on what kind of pass play, protection and time in the pocket, etc. but man, I don't think he looked at his way at all. I feel for Fitz...If he is feeling hopeless.

I was just thinking the same thing -- the QB competition might ultimately come down to who performs the best against Denver's backups -- that's the scariest part of all of this!!

My Plea to the Front Office...

Mr. Graves and Mr. Keim (and Coach Whiz):

Remember this feeling people. This is what it feels like when we don't have an OL to make all your shiny weapons go. Hopelessness. Frustration. Anger.

Soak it in, so that when draft time comes around, you aren't content with the Cardinals waiting until the 4th round to address OL for the first time in years...so that when that next "can't miss" receiver is still on the board, you opt to go with the lineman that will be a bulldozer for the next decade.

I better not once hear you say something along the lines of, "Well when we get Levi back, our line will improve without even having to add new pieces."

Sincerely,

Reality

Agree with this. I was at the game and the Kolb picks had Titans fans laughing. Have no clue what he was thinking on those but they were horrible. That said Skelton did have a chance to lock it up and didn't. King fell down on that first pick but can't try to force something there.

Funny the Kolb backers will cut him slack because of our OL which I believe is justified. However Skelton doesn't get the same consideration when he plays poorly. It was a jailbreak out there when he dropped back to pass.

While you are asking please tell them to trade for a LT right now.

You try and excuse Skeltons pick. Funny. it was pretty awful itself.

Yes, it was. But, for those of us that have no dog in this hunt, none of the interceptions were excusable. I want to see someone, anyone, step up and play like an NFL quarterback. I have yet to see that from anyone post-Warner. I've seen moments from both Skelton and Kolb but moments won't get it done.

From reading all these post it sounds like we have a QB problem. Not a competition but a problem.

Yep. They'll come up with some convoluted excuse as to how Kolb "won" the job, and he'll come out in the first game and get absolutely smoked.

Granted, Kolb made a couple nice throws last night, but he also make two game killing plays in very limited action, and was far less effective in our base offense.

We need to recognize what kind of team we are, a team that cannot have a QB that makes huge mistakes. Let's face it, our o-line is a disaster, and Skelton has proven since last year that he's much more adept at dealing with an awful line. Further, you can at least make the argument that Skelton may actually improve at some point.

What is the benefit of starting Kolb? He'll be killed by our line and his indecision by game 3.

Both our QB's stunk it up last night. Skelton did absulutely nothing with his opportunity. The blocking was bad but he need to do a better job getting Fitz invovled. I'm not sure if that is on him or the playcalling. Kolb had a couple of decent drives, mainly because he got Fitz involved. However, the two picks he threw were Pop Warneresqe. Those are plays that they are probably taught not to do from day one.

What don't you understand about me saying can't force something there? I stated facts as King did fall down and Skelton tried to force something that wasn't there. No excuses.
