How come Leinart gets grief from many on this board for not having attractive enough women in the hot tub pic but Orton gets away with these less attractive groupies?

It's been to long since we had a ML debate. :)

In his career, Orton has only completed over 60% of his passes once and that was 62.1% in '09. He does have a pretty good TD/Int ratio of 71/48 and 62/35 if you throw out his 1st year in the league. Career high passer rating is 87.5 this past year.

He is definitely a decent QB. One that you could win with if you have the other pieces of the puzzle.

Next time Orton wins a big game, it will be his first. I am just skeptical of his ability to consistently throw the deep pass.

(possible irrational Chicago bias)

Orton is definitley alright. I rmemeber at one point he was leading the league in passing yards this year.

In the Cards offense he will move hte ball enough to get the Cards the division..

Those of you quibbling about the 3rd rounder instead of the 2nd rounder: Who do YOU want playing QB, and at what price, next season?

I couldn't have said it better.. Who DO YOU WANT??? In our division, Orton can help us win it, since it is the weakest division in the NFL.

And yes once we get to the dance anything can happen!!! Seattle beating NO'S is a perfect example.

So develop Skelton with the start next season, while bringing a high draft pick?
Build and work for the future? If Skelton turns out to be the bizzomb can we flip our said draft pick later for an awesome pick in the draft from some scrub team desperately seeking a QB? If Skelton doesn't work out, can we go to the high draft pick and still keep our future hopeful? You made so much sense with your "yamon" answer, it has really enlightened me. :p

One thing to remember is that we can't trade until the CBA is redone and that doesn't look like it will be anytime soon. So, it would most likely be a 2012 draft pick that would be traded, and I while I wouldn't start with a 2012 2nd rounder, I could live with it.

Skelton and a high draft pick.

This doesn't make much sense because you are putting a ton of faith in the development of two young QB's (Skelton and a high pick rookie) who are going to have less time to prepare than most off-seasons due to the labor dispute. Why not use that pick on a player that could make an impact next season when your head coaches job is on the line, rather than a guy who might not even fit into the scheme of the next head coach if Whis is fired?

If Whiz can't develop either Skelton or the high draft pick, he should be fired already. If Whiz knows what he is doing, Skelton should be just as good as a veteran (I just don't like Orton).

What have you seen from Skelton that makes you think that he can throw for 3000+ yards and over 20 TD's ala Kyle Orton? Also, what offseason is Whis to use to develop either of these players when they can't report for camp because a new CBA hasn't been signed?

They can't trade for Orton either. So he will have to learn a new offense as well. I think Skelton made some decent throws in the Dallas game. :)

Whis' offense and McDaniels offense are not that different. Also Orton has shown the ability to assimilate quickly when changing teams.

I like the skills that Gabbert brings, but #5 isn't the spot, and the Cardinals are not in the position to support his development.

I don't think it is, but since our O-line can't block for a seven step drop it's a win-win! (I'm kidding O-line, don't Quantrell Bishop me!)

Tough call... it would of course be a no-brainer if we only had to give up a 3rd rounder. 2nd rounder seems too damn high for Orton. However, IMO, he's done enough to make you think he could, maybe, one day prove that it was a wise investment...
These are the types of calls Whiz and Graves get paid to make. Good luck fellas...

He agrees.

A second-round pick for a bonified NFL starting QB? Who's had a passer rating in the upper 80s the past two years? That's not the worst trade I've heard. A 71-48 touchdown-int contrast is pretty good. B+ kind of performance.

I think if Orton comes for just a second-rounder, you have to pull that deal. My guess is Denver will want a second and something else. Maybe a 4th. That's when you give them the finger.

I think the only real negative in that deal is it's a high second-rounder for a guy with only one year on his contract, and it's for $9 mil. Unless he has to performance goals in there, that's not a stellar deal.

Make the deal ONLY if he agrees to an extension. 9 million per is not a bad # for a QB.

I guess I was hedging the Cards' bet there by thinking at least it would be easy to part ways if he didn't perform well or Skelton had a sudden improvement. But you're probably right ... a high-second pick for Orton means committing to Orton for at least there years or it's a bad gamble all the way around.

That's substantial difference, especially considering Orton has thrown about 500 more passes than Anderson. It's nowhere near ideal, but you know you're not getting an All-Pro in Orton. You are getting someone who's probably among the Top 15 at his position.
