NFL source: #azcardinals have not yet spoken to Andy Reid. Still want it to happen. Plan to interview others.

2m Darren Urban ‏@Cardschatter
RE @MikeGarafolo noting Reid hasn't interviewed yet --Bidwill said Monday Horton was to be 1st interviewed, and that was just this afternoon

Yeah and Reid also had 5 times as many trips to Conference Championship Games and 4 times the amount of trips to the playoffs. What's your point?

In the NFC East as opposed to two years when the Cards were the only team with a winning record in the NFC West. Can't overstate that fact.

And 8 less years as a HC.. What is yours?

That Reid has proven a much better HC than Whisenhunt, but if you're looking for a direct comparison in terms of years I can I can frame it this way:

Reid's first six years as HC

64-42 5 playoff trips 3 trips to Conference championship game and 1 Super Bowl appearance

All of this in a very difficult NFC East division

Whisenhunt's first 6 years

45-51 2 playoff appearances, 1 conference championship and 1 Super Bowl. During which time the NFC West was one of the weakest divisions in all of football.

Oh and Andy Reid's record during the same time as Whisenhunt:

50-45-1 3 playoff trips and one trip to conference championship game.

Again in a much harder division than the NFC West.

I would not be mortified, but I would not be thrilled with Reid either.

Also worth pointing out that one of these same pundits practically guaranteed that Mike Sherman was hired as the Cardinals head coach six years ago...

The Cards also interviewed more candidates too right? It seems like the search is narrowed to 3 Horton, McCoy and Reid.

So with Reid I am hearing Shurmur OC, if Horton doesn't get HC offers he stays as DC, Childress and Castillo as parts of the staff as well...Childress has been a HC, OC, RB Coach, WR Coach and QB Coach...I wonder what role Reid would have in mind for him?

Denny Green is NOT an appropriate comparison to Walrus.

Denny did not know any x or o football. He simply was a great talent evaluator. Reid knows x and o, and has improved players over time.

During his 14-year tenure, Reid has compiled the best win total (120), winning percentage (.609) and playoff victory total (10) in team history. He captured six division titles and five trips to the NFC Championship game. During this period, no other franchise earned more divisional playoff round appearances (7) and only Bill Belichick's New England Patriots exceeded Philadelphia's (5) conference championship game appearances with (6). Reid also sent 19 players to 44 Pro Bowl appearances, the highest total for any team in the NFL during that period. None of these players had ever appeared in a Pro Bowl before Reid was hired.

We are built for a WCO, and I think Reid would be very successful here.

That Coaching tree on Wiki is a little misleading. It has Norv under Walsh's tree because he coached under Mike Nolan (SF 2005 I think) for 1 year. Norv is anything but Walsh/WCO. I mean, Nolan was NORV's DC in WAS for a few years...I don't think Nolan was exactly indoctrinating a young Turner with his mentor's offensive philosophy.

The Eagles team quit on him this year. Whats that say about his ability to control and motivate a team?

I Prefer Horton and will be very sad when he leaves.

Horton hasn't left yet and is far from a certainty that he's getting a HC gig. Most teams according to reports are looking for OFFENSIVE coaches. Horton is coaching the wrong side of the ball (unfortunate for him but very fortunate for us)

Not only that, wanting an DC that has no HC experience over a HC with tons of experience is like buying Lottery Tickets over Mutual Funds to plan your future.

He's going to be a HC in 2013 mark it down & quit dreaming of the best case scenario cause IMO it isn't gonna happen

He's getting a lot of play because a) he's an up and coming coordinator and b) he's a minority that fits into the Rooney rule. It is far from a certainty he's getting a head coaching job with all that is available and what teams are looking for.
