my worry is that Utah falls below Houston and LA and out of the playoffs.

i can see Houston sneaking up to 6th, GS falling to 7th/8th and LA/Dallas/Utah fighting either of the last two slots.

Minny/Portland are almost non factors at this point.

Dallas is almost irrelevant now, so its up to Houston and Utah to hold on to the last two spots. Lets hope that Denver can run their legs off on the way to beating them tomorrow.

Who would have guessed that Dr. Buss' death would be the emotional motivation for this team to get on track.

Say goodbye to a Lakers lotto pick. Suns bad luck strikes again.

There are times when you really have to wonder if this is all fixed.

Don't give up just yet. Nash and Kobe are old, Howard is hurting. As the season progresses, I think we'll see them slow down.

I wish all the injuries in the world on them. They are the Lakers.

Howard has finally learned how to run the pick and roll with Steve Nash. Steve cannot function well in the half-court without being able to slide off picks. Once Howard aggressively starts setting those picks, Steve can shoot, pass to the rolling Howard, or find Kobe. Its so simple but almost unstoppable.

It's not really luck, bad or otherwise, when the expected thing happens. No one expected this to be a lottery pick at the time of the trade.

Denver up by 13 midway so D-Dogg is half right, so far. Jazz are leading the Celtics at the half, too. DC beat the Raptors so they move into a tie with us (Gay shot 1-11.) Now the question is, can we manage to lose to Minnie at home tomorrow to solidify our draft position - tough task but our guys may just be up to it.

Hope Utah can beat Boston tonight. It's been a rough game for them, but they tied it with just over 5 minutes left.

Lakers are still in good shape for the playoffs. They need to be 14-6 over these next two games for the last 20. 2-1 in their next three. Then again 14-6 and they will be a playoff team.

Lakers go down to the Nuggets, Denver took a lead late in the 1st and never lost it, led by 10+ for the majority of the game. A good sight to see after the Lakers had some momentum going.

Utah going to OT vs Boston. Its on NBAtv if anyone cares to tune in. A Utah win would complete a very solid evening for Suns draft prospects.

In "good shape?", I mean, they still have a decent chance but its a stretch to say they're in good shape. At this point IMO their only hope is a Utah collapse. If Utah merely goes .500 over their remaining games then Lakers will have to go 17-7 to get in (Utah holds the tie-breaker).

There is a chance... buts I wouldnt call it good shape. There is a real chance that the 8th seed will need 46-47 wins, and if that happens then LA has basically no chance.

Utah's starting to get a little shaky. Good work by the Nuggets tonight.

Doubtful that many wins.

But in the last 42 games, I've said all the Lakers need to do is go 7-3 in each ten game block, and the last two can swing it. That is a 28-12 record down the stretch. So far in the first twenty they are 11-5, so they can drop one of their next 4 and hit that pace still (14-6). That pace would put them at 47 wins or so, and it will likely take about 44 to get the 8 spot. GS has a rough schedule ahead, and might be the team that falls out of it.

Hollinger now has Houston at 97%, GS 88%, Utah 66%, Lakers 37%, Dal 9%, Portland 4%.

Golden State has a crazy home (16 of 26 games) heavy schedule and they are a good home team, they also have a 7 game cushion over LA in the loss column. They might slide down the rankings but I doubt it will be that far.

Its also worth noting that Mike D has gone to one of his classic 8 man rotations. In the Lakers past 8 games players outside of his top 8 have played a grand total of 11 minutes.
