Its also worth noting that Mike D has gone to one of his classic 8 man rotations. In the Lakers past 8 games players outside of his top 8 have played a grand total of 11 minutes.

That's not a big deal, their players are young enough that they can handle big minutes.

ha.

everyone on the Lakers post-game was just KILLING DA on this last night... talking about how he can change and must change this. It's comical to a Suns fan hearing that all DA has to do is change and things will be okay. the guy is what he is... an absolute ass-clown of a head coach.

To be fair, outside of their first 8, the Lakers bench is the equivalent of a pee wee league team.

This is true, but it seems like good coaches like Jackson and Popovich have a knack for getting solid production from no-name players.

Even if its just to give a few guys 2 minutes of rest per half, you gotta go deeper than 8 men, especially with an older roster with 25 games left.

Phil and Pop are both excellent at getting players to accept their roles. Dantoni is pretty good at getting players to think they are stars.

Not much good happened tonight... Dallas lost to the Bucks so its not looking like they will pose any threat to the Lakers. NO and Sac both lost and of course we failed to out fumble Minnie. The one bright spot is Cleveland stayed ahead of us by beating the Bulls. Orlando won but they will be lucky to win 3 more games(they have a very tough schedule) from here on out so they'll never leapfrog us. Whats worse they have very few games against teams we want to rack up wins - they could help by having a freakish good game against the Lakers.

The Warriors are dropping like a rock. Yuk. Sure need a couple Lakers losses right now.

Still, I am glad we are not Cleveland. I would feel dirty cheering for the Lakers to win so we get our draft pick. Its all or nothing baby!

If the Lakers make the playoffs the Cavs get to swap the Lakers pick for the Heats pick, then the Suns will end up with the Heats pick.

So, while we are cheering for the Lakers to miss the playoffs, Cleveland fans are cheering for the Lakers to make the playoffs, so they can swap picks with them.

The Lakers eked out yet another close one, beating Atl 99-98. They got an assist from Josh Smith who whiffed on all 6 tries from the FT line. They're now just 2.5 behind both Houston and Utah. Some weaker teams have been surprising them some but haven't managed a win... they need some fluke losses in the worst way!

The scary thing is the Suns are only 9 games out of the eight seed also.

We're actually 11 1/2 out. And either way, such a deficit with only 22 games left is insurmountable. We could go undefeated the rest of the way, ending the year at 43-39 and on a 25 game winning streak... and we will have still most likely come up short.

i'll be stunned if the Lakers don't get the 8 seed at this point. they're playing decent ball, they're more experienced then Utah, their schedule is easier and they're starting to get Laker calls at the end of games.

Houston is rumored to be in the process of signing Aaron Brooks. I think this may be a positive addition down the stretch to give them some additional scoring punch.

I've never allowed myself to think otherwise... that the Lakers will make the playoffs. If they do miss the playoffs, it will be a pleasant surprise.

Houston ain't the main the concern for the playoffs... it's Utah, who's in full on free fall, losing again tonight to the Bucks.

I still think GS is the team that will fall out of it. The Lakers are 3 games back of them, and GS is on a 4 game losing streak.

Another poor day for our draft picks. Utah lost to Milw by 1 pt at home in OT. Orlando beat NO at NO - a game that figured to be a lock for the Pels. Cle and Min lost, though they figured to lose. The only good news was GS beating Tor, a pause in the bleeding - though they gave up 118 to the Raptors in the process. We need a rash of good surprises instead of this steady diet of bad ones.

Sadly, such is life when a team has to put its fate in the hands of other teams.

I have just about given up hope of our landing a savior in the draft. The only hope is that another year of failure will shake up the Front Office -- and ownership -- and bring in leadership who is better than struggling to reach mediocrity.

It is each team for itself and our team which, decade after decade, was trying to build a foundation to take that next step to legitimate strength in the post-season can't even do that.

Golden State plays 16 of their remaining 22 at home. I really doubt it will be them who falls out.

Its Utah or bust IMO.

Utah has a tough schedule from here on out... they'll be lucky to go 11-11. The Lakers have a cakewalk by comparison, something would have to go wrong for them to do worse than 14-8. Those two finishes give Utah 43 wins and the Lakers 44. There's no one left to challenge the Lakers from below and if Utah suddenly gets improbably hot Houston or GS could drop off the small amount needed to let the Lakers in. All in all I give LAL a 75% chance of making the playoffs.
