Don't get too excited. I talked to my good friend who is a big Lions fan and he told me that Foote was not very good for them last year. He's a good lockerroom guy and leader, but he didn't contribute a lot for them on the field.

Now that Delmas is taking a lot more of the leadership responsibilities over for the team, Foote became expendable.

Yeah the Cards dont need anybody amazing they just need somebody to hold down the spots with some experience till all the picks develop. Cards have alot of picks in the draft now per Q trade.

stop-gap, ok... but i wouldn't get too excited about this. The Steelers normally know when their LB are past their expiration date (Chad Brown really being the only exception to this that I can think of) and he just washed out with the Lions.

Holy cow, Foots coming here! Man he must be desperate. Really though, after losing the guys we are losing bringing in a bandaid isn't going to help. This guy is a hasbeen. He would be a stopgap player for a year so we could bring along some draft pick. Graves needs to go out and get a real player and not bring in hasbeens. You don't lose the kind of talent we are losing and replace it with guys like this and expect to win.

It's possible; I'm just reporting what my boy who watched ALL of EVERY Detroit Lions game told me. And remember: The Cards played the Lions this season. Do you remember a single play that Larry Foote made? Do you remember a single play that Foote made in the Super Bowl?

To me, Foote is better than nothing or hoping that the next LB we draft isn't Buster Davis. But I don't really have a lot of hope that he'll be able to replace 70% of the impact we were getting from Dansby.

why is Foote, a guy who's washed out with two teams in two years (one of them being THE LIONS)... a decent player?

i'm not bashing graves here... but what makes you think Foote's at all decent any more?

Is he as good as Dansby? No

Is he better then Beisel, Highsmith, or a rookie who God knows what round we draft him in - Yes(at least until the rookie adjusts).

Is he just a stop gap and the best possible backup plan? IMO yes.

An acceptable plan if they plan on making an upgrade at FS, DT, OLB...we have a lot of holes to fill.

i'm not bashing graves here... but what makes you think Foote's at all decent any more?

To be honest, it's not like the Steelers cut the guy - he just went into free agency and decided to go to his hometown team. The Lions play in a 4-3, where he was expected to be a true MLB, which he probably isn't. Here, he'd be back in his more natural spot of ILB in a 3-4.

Actually, the Steelers DID cut Larry Foote. And they waited until after the draft to do it. Check out the link. It's just that they had a replacement on hand in Lawrence Timmons who they needed to get PT for.

Oops, my mistake there. I thought they just let him go because of Timmons. But to be honest, it's not like we haven't tried in many situations to have replacements for our exiting FA's. Calais Campbell did a great job replacing Antonio Smith, and while Rashad Johnson didn't show much last year, we at least attempted to have a replacement plan in place. It's never going to be possible to have a fantastic player in the wings for every position.

Well said, like the bandaid comment to. Cards will have Cody Brown back and atleast one 1st or 2nd round LB from this draft and if they get Foote i like it. He wouldnt be amazing but hell make good decisions and get some leadership on whats going to be a very young D

Kevin Greene was solid in Carolina. And I would call haggans a solid LB after leaving. Add in Chad Brown and I would say more left and remained productive than unproductive.

Lavon Kirkland and Greg Lloyd are the only LBs that slipped when they left, and Kirkland hurt his knee if I am not mistaken.

And Dansby wasn't asked to rush the passer the last two years either. But the one season he was asked to rush the passer he recorded the most sacks by any Cardinal LB since Ken Harvey in 1993 despite only starting 10 games!

He might be, but I don't think he's ever played in a 3-4 before. That alone might make him not worth pursuing as a band-aid type.
