I've posted it a couple of times already... probably already on this thread. But I'll say it again:

I have a good friend who knows a lot about football (more than me) and he became a Lions fan when they drafted Harrington. He watches every Lions game; he's also a Steeler fan from back in the day (family's from Western PA), so he knows Foote as a Steeler as well. Here's what he said when I asked him about Foote verbatim:

Did you watch a lot of Lions games, Shane? Did Foote jump out to you when the Cards played them? I'm not even saying that Foote sucks. What I am saying is that posting tackle stats means nothing; tons of crappy football players put up equivalent tackle stats.

fair enough. I don't Watch Lions games at all. But I wasn't the talking him up or down. He's only 30 I would like to see him in a 3-4 and see what he's got left.

In 2003 Ronald McKinnon had 105 tackles and 2 sacks and he was terrible. I'm not sure that making a bunch of tackles 7 yards past the line of scrimmage really qualifies you as "good."

In 1999 Pat Tillman had 92 tackles in 12 games and the Cardinals couldn't wait to replace him with Adrian Wilson as a starting safety.

K9 you picked the wrong year. In 2000 The Cards credited Tillman with 224 tackles and McKinnon with 208! Of course the Cards opponents ran the ball 579 times and completed 295 passes. That was probably the worst defense in Arizona Cardinal history. They gave up more points than the 2003 D that finished dal in points allowed. No wonder they had so many tackles.

443 points and the Cards finished 3-13.

No news on Foote today. If he is scheduled to come tomorrow for a Thursday visit this could mean that he is not signing with the Skins until talking to us.

Veteran leadership at LB coupled with a young stud LB or 2 spells success for our D next year.

Come on home Larry.

According to an NFL.com report, Foote is seeking a contract that would exceed the one Scott Fujita signed Monday with Cleveland. Fujita reportedly will receive $14 million over three years, with about $8 million guaranteed.

Though Foote spent last year playing in Jim Schwartz's 4-3 defense, he would likely be an inside linebacker in a 3-4 system.

More than Fujita? Siiiike!

Sigining Foote is a smart move, IMO.

A band-aid solution is best since I would HOPE in two years younger blood would step in.

Foote is a HUGE drop off from Karlos Dansby, but he is also a solid 3-4 ILB with experience.

If the Cardinals sign him, and Porter, then you have three guys whom are comfortable playing on the same football field together.

Hmmmm do we really want him if he wants close to $5M a year?

I think so. We paid $9 mil for Dansby last season. Of course Dansby is better, but Foote would come at a 44% discount.

The bottom line is he is one of the better players available at a position in which we are desperate for not only depth, but someone to immediately be a starter.

Just under 5 mill a year is very do-able IMO. That is about the going rate right now for even average free agents. The range is probably 3.75 to 5 mill right now for LB's and Foote's agent just listed the high end of the spectrum as their starting point in negotiations.

If we were able to sign both Porter, and Foote for a combined total close to what Dansy was making last year ($9 mil) I'd be high stepping in cotton.
