Apologies to the Cards for stealing the text instead of posting the link, as I usually do. Darren's late blog:

Communication is key

One last thing before I shut down for the day: there has been a lot of talk and speculation about the Larry Fitzgerald negotiations, and rightfully so. It's a key part of this offseason and the future. I don't know a ton of the details, but I know that the sides are still communicating. Of course, that doesn't mean they are climbing closer to a deal, but there is interaction. In fact, I was supposed to have an interview with GM Rod Graves yesterday, but it was interrupted and ultimately ended because Graves took a call from Fitzgerald agent Eugene Parker -- a call that lasted a while.

Hopefully, it translates into something good. The longer this goes, the worse the situation gets.

That makes it seems that negotiations never broke off as was reported.

The last line is so true...the longer it goes the worse it gets. Primarily because it worsens the teams position IF they want to trade Fitz...if you think
Shepard and a number two is a bad deal, let's not hope we see what we could wind up with four or five weeks from now.

I dont know why you think the price would get worse. We are not in dire staits to trade him. So Either come with more or go home.

Fitz is going no where. It doesn't matter who says what, who the Eagles are offering, FITZ WILL BE A CARDINAL NEXT YEAR! HE IS NOT GOING TO BE FREAKING TRADED!!!! One of two things will happen. Either they will agree on a 5 year deal (what I think will happen) or the Cards will cave in on the 4 year deal. The Cards know they are skating on thin ice with the fans and I truly believe that they know that if they get rid of Fitz, there will be a mutiny. Ticket renewal packages are out right now and if they trade Fitz, how many of you will not renew???? I'm not only because I'm moving in July.

There would be no stinking mutiny. Lets not overexagerate. Some fans would be pissed, some would be happy, others would be indifferent. In the long run no matter where they stand they are fans of the team and not the player.

We will all still be sitting there rooting our azzes off on Sundays as per the usual. Those that would take it so personally and actually quit the team would be in the .000009% range.

Actually, I think we have just about as many fans upset with Fitz as there are upset with the organization.

Unless we know the full details of what's being offered, I can't be mad at either side. Each is trying to keep their best interests in perspective. It's smart of Fitz to try to work a deal where he can renegotiate in 3 years (the 4 year deal) because who knows how long his career is. It's smart of the Cards to want 6 years because they can better decide if they think he's too old when the contract is up.

I understand the impasse on both sides, but I think a middle ground can be found if the Cards can offer enough in guarantees. No matter what, I'm not mad at either side, frustrated yes, but not mad because I understand it.

Let me add this, if Fitz was a 10 year vet, then I'd say trade him, because at this point in his career he should be more concerned about winning. As it is, he should be concerned about setting himself up for the future because he's good enough.

Cards really only need to draft a RB and CB to plug up two major leaks in the system. If the Cards really wanted to make themselves better, they should have dumped Shipp and JJ since they will draft Mendenhall, Stewart or Jones in round 1. There's 2.8 mil right there to sign Chillar. They can spend the rest of the offseason working on the contract and signing depth.

Yeah, if it doesn't get done soon it will get reaaaal ugly, IMO.

I disagree. Worst case scenario, Fitz plays under his current salary and we make the playoffs.

And that would just be a terrible thing wouldn't it? We are losing (ok, letting him leave) Johnson and can't afford to lose Fitz as well. Losing two of your top 3 receivers damages the offense too much. Do you really want a receiver drafted from round 2 to be your #2 starter? I don't think so. It'll hurt the team way too much and set them back a couple years. No one else on the team can step into a #2 role and looking at the FA's left, there is no name that appeals to me as a #2, maybe a #3 out there in Hackett or maybe Ferguson for cheap. Other than those 2, no one else is out there.

If they were worried about losing Fitz or trading him I think they would be making an effort to sign Johnson....

LOL Aj, that is probably BEST case scenario if a deal doesn't get done. Worst case is more like the Cards leak that Fitz is trying to wring the Cards for everything they have, Fitz's agent goes public that the Cards are trying to lowball him, the negotiations get ugly, Fitz makes it clear he'll play (or he won't get paid, of courese), but he's gone asap, we STILL pay the big money, underachieve next season yet again, Fitz won't sign a new deal with another team for a trade, and we have to cut him next offseason. Sounds horrendous and I don't want it to happen, but if it gets ugly, I wouldn't doubt it gets bad.

As I said in another thread, the Cards have three choices:

1) honor Fitzgerald's contract, give Boldin the same deal or better in the next year or so (or let Boldin go). Force veterans to take cuts, draft next to no one, and generally upset 52 players this year, next year, and the following.
2) restructure him this year or next, under Fitz's terms, give Boldin the same deal or better in the next year or so (or let Boldin go). Force veterans to take cuts, draft next to no one, and generally upset 52 players this year, next year, and the following.
3) trade him, save a ton of cap room, get draft picks and at least a Pro Bowl corner, and keep the rest of their talent relatively happy.

If I'm missing anything in the scenario (I'm sure I am), let me know.

I’m not as worried/hysterical as most here. He’ll be here for at least one more season. I want him long-term but…

I would add that people are getting into dangerous, hypothetical, territory with some of this conjecture. Boldin might want a huge contract but he’s signed for two (or three?) more seasons. If he wants huge $ at that point we let him leave and don’t miss him much. The same should be true of Wilson.

Fitz is going to be good for a long, long time (He’s worth more than Moss or Harrison). I hope he’s with us for his entire career…

Ignore about 99% of what you hear in the media and on the web!!!

Most not all of the polyester pants boys are in it to make noise and have little to no basis for what they say or write. They think if they make some noise people willl listen or continue to read their dribble. The top tier of columnests are the only worthwhile things to read, or straight reports of an event.

You are off by .9!!

All 3 options are without a doubt over exaggeration's.

First why would we draft next to no one? We get 7 picks in every draft. you plan on us selling them or you think we wont even have 3 Mill to our names to sign a sigle draft class?

Second, There is not a player on the team that will be mad at Fitz for making his money, because they would all do the same exact thing. Players don't hire agents for nothing. If they were just trying to play for the love of the game they would just represent themselves, but no instead Boldin hires Drew Rosenhaus. Mad not a chance, maybe a little jealous but only because they want to make that much to. Which is proven by the fact that Dockett and Wilson although still have more then one year on their deals have already stated they want to work on new deals for more money as well. As for Boldin you don't have to give him a new deal until the 2010 offseason since his deal doesn't end until after the 2010 season. By that time there will be a lock-out or another new CBA raising the cap considerably once again.

You have (In about all the threads I posted in :p). I was here a while ago (years) but forgot the old username and password. I don't see a lot of familiar faces (K-9 and King of Cards etc. etc.) Good to see that people are as worried/hysterical as ever though...
