White decided to focus hard on the NBA draft early on and completely stopped going to classes in the Winter quarter. He was getting better and better adn was part of the UC 'feel good story' team that was undermanned, lost 2 asst. coaches and 3-4 players in the season and yet was doing really well in the BEast. Things went wrong when teh NCAA dubiously denied UC entry into the Dance in spite of a good record and strength of schedule-5 in the nation.
On the eve of teh NIT semis, the winter qtr grades came out and the NCAA pounced on him and stopped him from playing the next day because he hadn't attended classes.

FLIGHT WHITE rocks!

Long story long I actually know someone who was semi involved with White and Muhammad's academics case at Cincy. there were actually 3 players involved but for whatever reason the 3rd player was allowed to keep playing and was never named. They all failed to complete the mandated hours for the quarter and were suspended, no idea why the 3rd guy was cleared.

I agree that Cincy should have been in the NCAA's, my suspicion is that they knew White and Muhammad's situation and left cincy out because they knew they were going to lose 2 starters during the tournament? The guy I know was well aware of the case weeks before the suspension, he said it was widely known and by the time the team was aware of it, it was no longer possible for either kid to make up the necessary hours. FWIW the guy I know said a couple of days before it happened the big debate was do they let the guys play in the semis, help the team make the finals, and then go out and get killed because grades come out and they lose the players? They ultimately decided to suspend both guys, both were still eligible for the semis but the school held them out thinking it didn't make sense to play them when they couldn't play in the finals.

One of the reasons Kennedy didn't get the job is related to that whole situation. One of the revelations that came out of it was that Kennedy had actually pushed one of the players to skip academics to focus on preparing for the conference tournament, IIRC that player was James White. Downey came out and ripped both guys after the semifinal loss saying they'd let the whole team down, no way we lose with both players, apparently that and kennedy not getting the job were one of the reasons Downey chose to transfer.

FYI there's another academic situation coming at UC, similar to the academic fraud investigation going on at UA over Chris Rodgers independent study classes, there's another case at Cincy. I don't think it involved either White or Muhammad. but there's a reason Huggins is gone and kennedy didn't get the job, they got rid of Huggins to try and get rid of the academic black eye the program had, and then that stuff happened under kennedy.

The stuff about why White left Florida is rumor although much of it was so well reported that even Doyel of CBS Sportsline wrote about it at the time. White was one of the Bret Bearup all star kids who he steered to schools coached by friends. he steered White to Florida, as soon as he signed, White quit the all star team that Bearup was taking overseas, at the advice of Donovan who was getting tired of all the scrutiny his relationship with Bearup was getting. White played well in spurts for Florida but had been suspended twice and already quit the team once when he ultimately decided to transfer.
he was in academic trouble at Florida too IIRC.

Bearup then brokered his transfer, coming down to a choice between Cincy and Missouri, coached by 2 more of his close friends, Huggins and Quin Snyder.

he's absolutely an NBA prospect, hell I think his junior year in HS he was the top rated player in the country in his class, he's an exceptional talent, but he's had his share of problems getting to this point.

I've always kept an eye on him because one of my best friends in highschool was named james White.

YOu think it's wise to draft two short players?

I like the idea of getting Rondo (but he'll be gone by the time we draft IMO), but a PG and a SG? I'd rather try to get a big man somehow. Boris can't be a center forever.

au contraire (sp? where is diaw when you need him) . . . for once i think the suns will be deep in the frontcourt with:

amare
kt
tt
diaw
marion
james jones for stretches

if we can retain 'em all (not sure if that's possible) we don't need more frontcourt help. but being able to add the following in the backcourt:

nash
bell
barbs
rondo
white

would be terrific.

TT will most likely be gone if we sign both Boris and LB to extensions. Even if we don't, there still is a chance he'll bolt. Contrary to what he's been saying, money may be a factor with him, and if it is, fuggedaboutit.

But again, I don't think Rondo will be available at #21.

I would love to see TT back for one more year. He’s nobody to build around, but he has found a great role with this team.

If we keep our picks I want,

the best pg prospect available.

a freakishly athletic project player who blocks shots and rebounds, that we can send down to the developmental league.

I think TT would be very compatible with Amare. TT's 3pt accuracy would really open up the middle for Amare. Amare one-on-one in the lane area is dynamite!! With TT, Raja, and Nash on the 3 pt line and Amare at the elbow, it will be a choice between curare and hemlock for opposing teams.

No doubt, but I just don’t think his salary requirements would work long term.

The few good big man in each draft go top 10. We don't have a chance to get a big man who will contribute anything soon.

Maybe Hilton Armstrong but even he won't be on the board at 21 or 27. I say Sarver should spend money and resign Thomas for a small contract and Nazr Mohammed for the MLE or something like that.

And yes Rondo and White would be my picks for the Suns. I could also live with Farmar. And my opinion on the Spanish guard duo changes every day. I would either take both or none.

I may not be wise but at least someone agrees with me:D Farmar at 21 (or MArdy Collins if he slips that low) and Saer Sene. I'd trade both picks if we could go up and get Hilton Armstrong, but some gut feeling says we get 2 players regardless this year.

Gambo says that H. Armstrong is the guy they want, but that they will have to trade up to get him.

He's a legit center with huge wingspan, shot-blocker, hops, great ability to run the floor, and a dependable jumper out to 12 feet.

Couldn't argue with that. If we traded both picks to move up a couple of slots and get him, I would be fine with that.

The Suns have tried out a lot of guards.

Jordan Farmer
Maurice Auger
Sergio Rodriquez
Guillermo Diaz
Hassan Adams
Morris Almond 6' 6" SG
Daniel Horton 6' 2" PG
Rajon Rondo

And,

Tedric Hill a 6' 10" PF

They have Kevin Pittsnogle coming in June 18th.
Pittsnogle is projected as a PF in the NBA, and is a perimiter shooter that is exceptional at the pick and roll.

It would seem that they are going to take a guard on their first pick and maybe look for a big man on the 2nd pick.
This of course is if they keep one or both picks.

Interesting. Pittsnogle might be a good fit on the Suns as long as he can get the conditioning. Where did you see they tried out Farmar? I have been looking for that and haven't found it anywhere.

Draft express has a list of the players who have worked out for which teams.

Cool! I visit the 2006 mock draft on that site regularly but never read the articles for some reason. They are high on Farmar and Sene for the Suns too! I know it means next to nothing but I hope they're right. That is if Sene is around at 27... which they are predictiing he won't be.
