I rewatched the Seattle game last night and Minter is laying on some good hits on ST. He's a thumper!

Also noticed Housler got benched after the 2 muffs on the opening drive

Sure would have like to see Ta'amu do his best refrigerator impression haha

Didn't they call a play with him in and after a timeout it was a different formation?

Minter was a wasted pick at this point. Not that he has been a bad player, we just could have used that pick on a player who filled a bigger need. That being said, Minter is at least some insurance if Dansby leaves...

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Minter picked before we signed Dansby? Secondly, everyone (including myself) saw Dansby as a 4 game sub for D-Wash and then a quality backup and passing down OLB. Minter was a very good pick at the time IMO and will be damn good for us when called upon IMO.

Speak for your self, MD.

The issue with Minter's value is that he's a high 2nd round pick. If he isn't "called upon" to play until 2015, and he's only a high-level special teamer until then, that's a pretty wasted 2nd round pick. Not Buster Davis wasted or Cody Brown wasted, but fairly squandered.

Cost-controlled draft high draft picks ought to be playing significant rotational downs early in their careers. As many have said, it's telling that Minter couldn't get ahead of Jasper Brinkley in the preseason, and Minter has all of 1 defensive snap this season.

Add in the fact that we picked him over Kiko Alonso who was picked by Buffalo with the next pick.

I know Minter is known a thumper, but wasn't Alonso known to have a more coverage skills to go along with his good tackling?

That Minter would find himself behind an experienced pro (Brinkley) in preseason doesn't strike me as "telling", if he doesn't replace him on the depth chart in 2014, you certainly have a point.

Si. Minter is a known slacker in coverage. Tackling machine in a defense (LSU) that funneled plays in his direction.

I thought he'd be a good fit next to a burner like D-Wash but this year was the equivalent of playing behind Willis/Bowman. If you don't like Keim then it's a waste of a pick. If your unbiased it's too early to tell what Minter will become.
