No surprise.

Mike Jurecki ‏@mikejurecki
Hearing QB Logan Thomas hasn’t made progress the coaching staff expected. Phillip Sims/Chandler Harnish are pushing Thomas for the third QB.

Stupid pick at the time. Real waste with Mettenberger on the board.

yup. it's almost impossible for guys who are THAT bad in college to all of sudden become good, much less average in the NFL, especially at the toughest/most important position in the league.

I thought he looked like crap in college. I guess someone saw something. But it's not like you can expect a sure thing of anyone in the 4th round or later.

On the bright side this speeds up the decision of when to convert him to TE like many other teams planned to do in the first place.

and then spend three years trying to teach him how to play TE?
if he cant play, cut him....draft your TE

thread title is misleading however...
it is not that he is not making progress......... but that he has not made the progress the staff was expecting....there is a difference there.

Well I'm not saying I advocate keeping the guy around forever I'm just saying it should not come as a surprise to people that the guy is struggling to claim the #3 QB spot. There were a bunch of NFL teams who wanted to draft him and convert him to a TE. When was the last time an NFL team converted a QB prospect they liked to another position?

He's not a QB, the 2 best scenarios are, I'm wrong and he proves it quickly, or I'm right and they cut bait quickly and move him to another position or let someone else hire someone to go chase after all the errant passes.

Denard Robinson just last year went from QB to RB in Jacksonville with some success.

He is a project anyway. The cards already have a starting QB and as far as we know a back-up QB. TC is still a few weeks away.

I have no problem taking a QB with his type of potential every couple of years. He was raw, new to the position has off the chart physical tools.

After training cammp, I want the headline to read "Phil Sims steals third QB spot from Thomas/Harnish"

I have a problem with picking "Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" players in any round at any position. If he was an UDFA, I wouldn't care at all. But, you blew a pick on him and there were tons of analysts saying he was a long shot to be a good NFL QB at best.

I don't expect Keim to get every pick right. But, some misses are worse than others and this was a pretty bad miss.

All that makes sense. Except when trying to find the most important position on the team. You have to take chances where there is potential.

It's better the Cardinals get past LT early rather than later. There was a reason Lindley was starting over LT.

LT was handed the starting job for the 49ers game yet had such a crappy practice that Arians immediately gave the job back the Lindley. He couldn't outperform Lindley (who we all know is terrible as a starter) for even ONE damn practice! Man, that would've been an interesting practice to observe. I still boggles my mind LT got the job on a platter and immediately lost it because he sucked so hard in practice. That suckage must have been epic.

If he doesn't get it together at least he will have that accidental touchdown pass to look back on.

Should he never throw another pass in the NFL that will be one of the most bizarre career stat lines ever.

1-9, 81 yards, 1 TD, 101.6 QB rating.

There might be a guy out there who also had only one career completion and it went for a TD and it was for a ton of yards, but I'd bet it was from a gadget play, like a punter throwing or something, not an actual QB.

For reference sake, Bryce Petty, who is and will be a much better QB, like Thomas, was a 4th round pick this year.

I guess Keim and Co. decided that round 4 is the round to take "toolsy" guys and see if they can develop because they did the same this year with Gunter.

I guess it's okay to do that in round 4 and not round 1. In fact, they seem to go conservative with the early picks and then take chances.

Yes it's like they want to not take a bust early then late in the draft want to strike gold.

This wasn't a Keim pick this was a BA pick. He went to VATech like BA and BA felt like he had some special insight. Sounds like he missed.

Totally agree with you on this. BA worked him out on campus and convinced Keim that he could develop him into a starter.
