oh my god has stolen a computer..what terrible for a young kid..good or bad guy?who cares really.. . then maybe he learned from his past mistakes..this team need a leader and a talented player ..he has everything to be great..i dont see teams winning by good guys

You named one thing he did wrong. I listed several including one he did in the past year (pay-for-play). That doesn't sound like a kid that learns from his mistakes. He's an intriguing talent but I can understand why teams would back away from selecting him early based on just his off field problems alone.

Besides evidently the Cards staff isn't all that high on the first round QB prospects outside of Luck (quite frankly I'm not either) and want to draft an impact defensive player. Considering that Whiz is feeling pressure to win, it also makes sense that he gets someone to help him out NOW.

The game that convinced me that Newton could be something really special was when Alabama took on Auburn in the Iron Bowl. It was in a very hostile environment in Tuscaloosa, against arguably one of the best defenses in college football. Auburn was down by 24, and the Alabama defense did a great job of containing Newton, making him beat them through the air. So he did. To me, that is one of the greatest accomplishments he could ever do in college, and I do believe it is somewhat comparable to what Michael Vick did in the Meadowlands against the Giants.

As a last note on Newton, I don’t think anyone should underestimate the economic aspect of drafting him. His name alone would create a lot of buzz for whatever team gets him, and I’m pretty sure the Bidwill’s wouldn’t be completely against that.

Look, I’m not saying Cam Newton will be the next star, and personally I would still sell the farm to get Luck if given the chance. But I am saying that he has the intangibles as well as the tangibles to make it happen.

I think Kerouac said it best in another thread. Sometimes you have to take a chance on greatness. This might be such a time.

This.

That Alabama game converted me. And the quote about greatness is dead on.

Aspiring to be great means taking a chance on a transcendent talent.

Newton has all the physical skill of Vince Young (a little more athletic but Young had more experience as a passer) he will have to prove he is more mentally tough and smarter than Young to disuade his detractors.

As I write this Andrew Luck just threw TD #4...that kid is just awesome.

After watching him carve up the Hokie defense.......

Trade em all..... Ricky Williams style.

If Carolina doesn't take this kid they will not be able to overcome it for 10 years. My only question is whether he has the killer instinct in him.

I will always remember the question the Colts asked Manning in the interview stage. "Why should we take you over Leaf?" Would Luck answer that question the same way?

Luck is good no doubt about it but you never know until they get to the NFL.

A lot has to do with where they land too.

I'd fight for Luck if it was me, he's one QB who's worth it, but we won't, end of story, we never do stuff like that and we won't start now.

Hey, I wouldn't mind you guys being right. If we took Newton, I would get excited about it, for sure. I thought Quinn was out of the question too. So, if it's true we like him, then maybe they will consider Newton too.

That said, I think they are going to give Skelton another year or two to develop as QBOF and try to fix the defense this year.

Carolina, Buffalo, and possibly Cincy all need QB's. If Luck declares what are the chances Luck, Mallett and Newton are gone by the time the Cards pick?

Buffalo won't be taking a QB in round 1 imho. Fitzpatrick is doing just fine and they have glaring holes elsewhere.

Carimi would be a reach of Levi Brown proportions. Horrible pick if we do that at #5. But, it would fit the Cards MO.

Peterson is an instant starter and would move DRC to #2 and Toler to Nickel. This would allow whatever pass rushers we pick up more time to rush.

Plus, Peterson is a monster on Punt and Kickoff returns.

What makes Carimi more appealing at 5 than Peterson or Newton?

Peterson is the second best player in the draft after Luck. I'd love to see him in Cardinal red.

Doesn't it just tick you off? It sure as hell does me. Why can't we be aggressive and make a move for a guy you want.

god I wish you were right. I wish they were that stupid. The problem though is that even if they decided they didn't want Luck they would get so many offers for their pick it would be ridiculous. Someone is going to steal the kid right from underneath our nose. All while we pretend that whoever we get is who we wanted all along.

I officially have zero faith that this will go well. Sadly enough I'm calling my shot now 4 months in advance. WE WILL SCREW THIS UP!

Or just be bad enough to get the #1 pick. We've never had it & several teams have had the #1 overall selection more than once. The Falcons have had the chance to nab a franchise QB 2 times in the 10 years. How we've never had the #1 pick in the draft with all the bad football I've seen in 40 years is just rotten Luck...Lol

I've read where Gailey absolutely loves Newton.

As far as Newton, He reminds me of Vince Young. I think he is a better runner but not as good of a passer. He throws good short passes, but he doesn't show me much down field. I want a guy who can get the ball down field and Newton has not shown that as of yet.

I myself am leery of Newton because of his one year wonder status and I am not sure he has the mental make-up to make it in the NFL.

But he without a doubt shows way more then just good short passes and is easily the better college passer then Young was. Newton has an amazing 10.5 yards per attempt. That is a full 1.5 yards more then Andrew Luck.

I'd be thrilled with Luck or Newton. As far as the one-year wonder status, that is not exactly accurate. Its not like he has been a mediocre player who played out of his mind for a year. He has been totally dominant where ever and when ever he has played--at every school and on every level.

I lived in Philly when Randall Cunningham was there. Newton is stronger and faster than Cunningham. Newton has also shown the ability to pass.

Newton will run alot as a young qb in the nfl, but as he matures his passing game will also. He will be something special.

Gabbert looks good too. We have the 5th pick and there are three excellent qb's. We ought to be able to get one.

You're right and that is exactly what I'm afraid of. I have a very sinking feeling that we won't take any of them. We will be sold a bill of goods!

I was ticked off about 25 years ago, I'm past that now, resigned is what I am.

Ticked off was very long ago, ESPN just started covering the draft.

One year the player the Cardinals took was not in any of the peoples notebooks they had ready for draft day, shows you how old I am.

Eric Swan turned out to be a pleasant surprise one year but that was predicted by a few people who had at least heard of him.

We took a kicker once too, with a high first round pick.

So after all that, lack of creativity just isn't something I dared even cosider getting mad about, too busy dodging abject dumbness.

You are going to have to explain this one much further.

He has a total of 12 passing attempts and 21 rushing attempts the two years prior to this current one.

That equals totally dominate where ever and when ever prior to this current year?

Are we really going to use the junior college stint to prove this point?

Good for him he destroyed the cream puff school that is Tyler Junior College. But he had a very hard time with an actual good defense, Fort Scott Community College.:sarcasm:

Please stay away from Quinn. He's off my board unless we trade down to the 20s.

Quinn = Aaron Maybin = Vernon Gholston.

The only way Quinn will succeed is if he ends up in a Tampa 2 scheme where he gets after the quarterback on every play like Simeon Rice. He has no interest in playing the run or in getting blocked.
