+ Thornton best SF in the draft outside of Durant
+ Yi who you don't like but will surely go top 7 imo
+ Hawes who nobody around here likes I guess but will get picked by some foolish team

In other news Javaris Crittenton is down to #20 in Ford's mock. That's the PG I would want out of this draft I think.

I would not be surprised if the Bobcats planned to use on the picks to bank a Euro like Splitter or Fernandez. These are both lottery level talents with serious contract issues. This way they would still be able to get someone who can contribute but for substantially less money than a #8. The #8 pays $1.8 million while the #24 pays $813,000.

Maybe the Suns should be considering this idea themselves. There are no guarantees after about the top 3. They could also use their two first round picks next year to get another pick this year. Where's the depth going to come from the Suns so desperately needed last year.

How many teams can you remember that drafted guys in the first round and stashed them in europe?

..

Teams don't really do that at all, it's like wasting a pick for nothing.

yeah, i'd have to hope you and mock drafters are right that teams like yi and hawes to drop one of "my seven" to the suns at 8.

and i love crittendon, but i think he's a draft pick "tweener," likely not good enough to be drafted high if we move that far up and not bad enough to drop to our 24 if we stand pat.

hmm, i'm thinking this could be not so good. i think it may be a 7 man draft:

oden
durant
horford
wright
conley
noah
brewer

i would be a little ill if our "future" was jeff green. i am not a big fan of yi (though of the remaining players i suppose he's the one i'd take). and i wouldn't be all excited about thornton's upside (though that could be b/c i spent all of the season hoping we'd get him with the cleveland pick until he blew up).

I think Green will end up in the top seven mix, though obviously there are no guarantees. Yi is actively trying to discourage the Bucks and Wolves from taking him (no Chinese).

Hawes is a real wildcard because he's a Kaman type center (not as good a rebounder though). I can't understand why he is so highly regarded, but every mock has him extremely high.

I think there is a very reasonable chance that one of your 7 will be available at #8.

yeah, i can't argue with that. i think one of 'em will drop, but on the off chance they didn't i'd be bummed we gave up an unprotected atl pick next year that's loaded with guard prospects.

Grant Hill.

Cheesebeef, I like Grant Hill if he can stay healthy but I would not bet on it. Also there's no assurances he's coming here. The Suns have researched this draft well and should be able to come up with at least a couple of quality picks at #24 and #29 if nothing changes. If the Suns use three of their picks to move up they better come up with a star or this is a flawed strategy.

Out of all the players the Suns have worked out, it seemed like they had the most praise for Crittendon, but probably not a #8. Obviously they like Noah, and if they do get the 8 pick and Noah is still there, there's no doubt the Suns are going to get him.

He was healthy all last season, so at least there's that.

The perfect world for Suns with 2 trades:

1. Marion for #5, West, Ratliff

2. LB and Ratliff to Bobcats for #8 and their 2nd-rounder. With the undertable understanding that they'd sign and trade Wallace to us for the trade exception created hereby.

If Wallace could be signed for 9 mil per. We'd have shed over 8 mil salaries already.

3. Trade Diaw/KT/JR, #5 and Atl pick to Minn for KG. Select Noah with #8. Sign Hill, BJ and Devin Brown.

We'd have KG/Amare/Wallace/Bell/Nash with Noah/Hill/Browns/West.

He played pretty steady throughout the entire season, missing just 17 of 86 games, and those were spread out throughout the season. He never was out of the lineup for an extended period of time.

Wow, there's a pipe dream there. Gut the whole team. Our ENTIRE bench in this scenario is brand-new, along with 2 new starters. Clever and creative, but wholly unrealistic.

From ford's latest mock:

"The skinny: It sounds like the Bobcats are seriously considering trading this pick. The Suns and Sixers, among others, have talked about moving up to No. 8.

The Bobcats like Brewer and USC's Nick Young. Brewer's the better defender, while Young's the better offensive player."

If we can do it without a player, that would be a steal.

Ford also wrote today in his blog about trading up -
"We know it's not with Portland or Seattle, and I'm told it's not with Boston. So who is it Phoenix might have a deal with? As Phoenix trade partners, Atlanta at No. 3 and Charlotte at No. 8 are the two biggest suspects. "

I don't see the reasoning Atlanta would have to trade the #3 other than the fact that they suck at drafting.

Does anyone else think that if Noah, Brewer and Conley are off the board that the Suns are going to draft Julian Wright?

His stock has dropped quite a bit since the end of the season but i think he is an excellent point forward with great athleticism. He really is what the Suns like in a player. I watched him play a few times this year and came away very impressed with his fundamental game. I just think some good coaching could do wonders for this kid and they could groom him to take over for Marion.

I for one think that should be the pick if the other three are off the board.

I didn't mean to refer to these specific players... but other quality players that are available late in the first round. It's the philosophy behind drafting talent late in the draft. The Suns used to be so good at it.

No its not. Think about it, the Dbacks could keep Nash-Marion-Amare together and add the 8 pick, thats awesome! Who knows where Atlantas next year pick will be, and 24 and 29 may or may not be rotation-quality guys.

Also, I've been calling the Suns making a move w/ Charlotte for a while, so Im super cool.

Amare's strike zone would be too big and Nash couldnt throw faster than 68, what position do we play Marion at, he thinks he is a shortstop, but I think he is more of a RFer, I dont know how awesome this will be adding the 8th pick to this mess.

Not sure why ATL would be willing to give up #3. They have a SF fetish on their team, and there are plenty of those in this draft they could take. :D

Oh I'm not saying I think it will happen, It's just coming from the same source that is saying the eight pick as well.

I've never heard that they have any interest in him, but I don't know. I'm not really big on him myself. That's just me though.
