Dockett just signed a deal in 2006. He shouldn't have resigned if he felt he was worth more money. Last year he has a great year and does what the Cards expected him to do when they resigned him to a larger deal. Lo and behold, now, as we all know, he wants more money.

What bugs me is this comment from him: ""Karlos Dansby and Antonio Smith gave me a call and wanted me to come to this minicamp," he said. "Right now, I'm just helping my team and the young guys."

Oh really? That's why you showed up? Not because you are a Cardinal, looking to improve your skill set, a member of this team, and a player who just recently signed a contract extension? You came because a few other players told you to show up?

I'm sorry, but Dockett's greed here is making me lose respect for him. Sure, he's a great player and I am glad he's on our team - but this is lame.

I have been disappointed by the attitudes of a few Cardinals this off season, Dockett being the leader in that category. You don't sign a deal, agree to the terms, play one year, then throw a **** fit like that and start crying about your money. He needs to suck it up, shut his big mouth, and get out there and play. Dockett is a great player and one I very much want to keep around and keep happy, but he's got to be reasonable. This team is trying to improve, trying to bring in people to help take that next step, and not everyone can make top money.

I think players have become too fixated on what everyone else around them makes, and thats a sad thing to see. Guys need to worry more about themselves, and less about what the guy next to them makes. That's the downside to having payroll be public knowledge. I don't know what my co-workers make, but I'm happy with my own pay so I don't worry about it. As long as people know what their co-workers make, there is always going to be that "when do I get mine" attitude.

I was just about to post the same comments. Screw Dockett. I hope Cardinals don't give in to this greedy SOB.

I don't give a crap if he gets a new deal or not. If he plays well and we win, he can get $100million dollars for all I care. It's not my money. As long was we win, that's what matters.

But, you know what? He showed up and acted like a leader among the new guys. I'll give him credit for that. That was actually pretty cool.

When the NFL salary cap goes up by like 30% as it did last year, maybe instead of all these teams having cap space, some players realize they're supposed to get that money.

Seems to make sense to me. Dockett, get what you're worth while you can.

Wait, I agree he should sit on his deal for a year or two before making this noise. BUT, he is doing the right thing by coming into camp and being a leader despite not being happy with his contract. Don't mix anger over his greed for not being a team guy. I think both he and Anquan need to realize their deals were inflated (dockett) or well before the team needed to (Quan) and so they need to cut the team some slack. Why is Dockett a shmuck when he is coming to camp to help out young players (the reason for the first minicamp, not improving skills of veteran players) when Quan is a team player even though we had him for another 2 years at chump change when we tore his contract up and gave him another? I say bad for the greed (give me one more year in the probowl and I'd pay him), but good for going to camp despite your discontent.

Dockett and his agent knew the salary cap would go up when they signed that deal. That was not anything shocking or some big to do.

He played well and was rewrded with a 5 year contract and a nice chunk of guaranteed money. He in turn does what the team expects and proceeds to piss in their face by demanding a new one after one season. Anyway you slice it it's definitely lame.

I could care less where the money goes too as long as we win. But if Im the Cardinals brass I wait at least two more years before I even think about extending Dockett! He needs to show more consistency then one 8 sack year.

I feel this way about all Cardinal players especially Q, you signed a contract, in Q's case they re-did his rookie contract which he was still under, now he wants more money in light of the Fitzgerald deal. Well stay healthy and in 3 years when your contracts up then ask for more money. What is the point of a long term deal when salary caps go up every year. No one should get a new deal until they are a FA, they don't play or play well then good luck to them getting a better deal from a new team. Replace them with rookies and bench or trade them, don't release them, this way it hurts them because they get older and still have to wait for a deal.

It only went up about 6.5%. Dockett and his agent also knew exactly how much the cap was going to be in 2007 and 2008 as it was already written into the new CBA deal. So the cap and the 6.5% raise from the time he signed his deal to now should not be a shock to him or his agent and if that is the reason why he is unhappy then it is his own dang fault since they had all the facts in front of them the time that he signed his deal.

Cant believe it had to take Dansby and Smith to plead with him to come in for camp. Although on the bright side I like Dansby taking that leadership role even though he is in a contract situation himself. Taking on a leadership role for the contract that he wants was one of my biggest grips against him so kudos to him.

Anquan is my favorite player in the universe but I can't help but be disappointed in him. Let's remember the Cards offered him a new contract this season that would have put him in the top 3 salaries for a wide receiver in the league but he chose to wait and see what Fitz got. The Cardinals have been trying to do right by their core players and deserve probably more credit than they get.

They offered him a bump in salary with no more guaranteed money! Of course he turned it down! He would have been stuuupid to accept that deal as a aplayer where you only get the bonus money guaranteed.

Q contract

Not what I recall. They offered him a new deal and I am sure there was increased guaranteed money because they had to get it done before Fitz's deal and the guaranteed money was the issue for this years cap. I could be wrong but offering someone a new deal without any increase in the guaranteed money is like making no offer at all it is all about the upfront money. I think Anquan is the heart and soul of this team and would not want to see him traded under any circumstances and I believe the Cards will do right by him.

The stated that they offered to increase his salary 3 million per season. There was no mention of bonus money at all FWIR.

I don't get the whole 'They have a limited shelf life, so they need to get paid now" attitude.. Did I miss something? are these guys barred from making a living outside of football when the game has passed them by?

Following this logic, strippers should be paid 5k per lap dance.

Someone is always willing to pony up the $$, so why would these guys say no??

Forget the players or the teams, it's us fans that make this whole this what it is and yet we get screwed harder than anyone. We need to organize a strike. If Dan Syder can make 100 mil a year and Fitz can make $14,000,000, I deserve free beer at the games. Why does our price keep climbing while the league's output remains constant?

Put a flat rate cap on what agents earn and most of this goes away.

Get used to it guys. The players will want and get more money while we, the fans. pay thier salary with higher ticket prices, etc... It's a distrubing trend with the Chad Johnsons and TO's but it's what happens when people get more and more money and want more.
I used to care about players personally but I don't anymore, to me they're ALL a commodity, if they can win for us, keep 'em if they don't, get rid of 'em ,that includes Q, Dockett or whoever. There's no loyalty to a team by players anymore, only us fans have loyalty. So I could care less what they want or what they get as long as, while they're on this team, they do great and produce.
K I'm done...lol

Not sure what % of the defensive plays Dockett was in on? It seemed like a whole lot. He played hard while a few others sat on the bench. I hope he gets everything squared away. The cards really need him.

You're absolutely right Cardsfanmd. In the end its the fans that pay the price. Do you think the owners are going to take the hit on players salaries increasing? They're always going to make their percentages no matter what. I don't blame players wanting to hit the free market when their contract expires. There is a huge discrepancy in players salaries and there's always an owner willing to shell out substantial money for mediocrity. I'm pretty sure that Antonio Smith and Eric Green noticed what Pace got so its going to be hard to retain them. Again the fans lose out. We draft players out of college and spend 4 years grooming them only to see them move on to another team once they become good. The fans stand by their players through thick and thin only to end up seeing them excell on another team. To counter that, our owners bring in their own free agents and to off set the cost....tickets, beer, parking, etc increase. Its a vicious cycle with the fans losing out at both ends.

Totally agree. I am disappointed in Q as well.

I am no Seahawk fan (in fact, I *really* don't like them) - but it seems the contract Lofa Tatupu signed in the off season is a great example of a guy being a team player. Wish we had one of the leaders on our team act that way. Instead everyone is focused on getting 'their own' ..
