Those are definitely two of the best X-Files episodes.

Any ideas on the black powdery substance surrounding Jacob's shack?

I don't buy into the idea that Ben shot Locke because he heard Jacobs speak, and Ben never had. Instead I think that Ben does not want to "share" the ability to see/hear Jacob with Locke. Perhaps he realizes that many of the others are looking for somebody else to lead them.

I like that theory Joe.

I think the hostiles thought Ben was a messiah because he could see his dead mother so they took him to Jacob and he pretended to talk to him and they thought he could really see him. They have since figured out he is a fraud and thought Locke was the new Messiah because he could walk. That is why what's his name gave him Sawyers file so he could confront Ben. Or Ben really talks to Jacob and Ben is keeping him trapped in there.

What do you guys think?

I guess my problem there is Jack saw his dead dad, Kate has seen things, Michael etc. So if seeing someone who is supposedly dead were the sign of being special, there's a lot of losties who fit the bill?

Very cool episode but again baffling.

I think it's some sort of "voodoo" fence keeping Jake in.

WOW, that's a great one, and it fits Joe's theory.

He's locked inside that cabin with the gunpowder, he asked Locke to help him, and Ben knew he said something to Locke and then shot him like Joe said, to keep Jacob all to himself.

Wow.

But Ben didn't hear what Jacob said to John. He wanted to know what it was, and when Locke told him the first time he thought he was asking for help, so he truly didn't hear what Jacob said.

And if Jacob wants Locke's help, then clearly he wasn't having the "conversation" with Ben that Ben was acting like was going on. It was made up. However, Ben is truly shocked that John can't see Jacob.

I disagree. Just because Ben didn't hear what Jake said to Locke doesn't mean he can't have his own conversations with him.

Ben and the Others must know Jacob exists, otherwise how do they keep him there? At least some of them (and I'm assuming Ben is one of these people) can see him and I would assume be able to talk to him.

So that would go back to Jacob talking to different people on different "wavelengths."

From the conversation that Ben was "having" with Jacob, I don't see why he'd be asking Locke for help. I'll have to rewatch that scene again.

or - a couple of other scenarios...

1. Ben heard what Jacob said to Locke, wanted to see if Locke really heard it also - a test of sorts.
2. Ben used to be able to hear Jacob and now he can't. The fact that Locke was/is able to frightens Ben.

Makes sense. Ben also got sick and didn't think he could.

Or, maybe he can't hear him with Locke around. He didn't start healing until Locke started hanging out with him, too. So it could be proximity to him.

Locke is Jacob.

Or related to him.

Jacob is the pirate captain of the black rock.

WHen Ben first meets the hostile guy he is wearing pirate clothes. The others ARE the original pirtaes. They havent aged.

I agree that the hostiles are the sailors from the ship.

But I don't buy that Locke is Jacob or related to him.

Also, your sentence implies that Ben is wearing pirate clothes when he first meets batmanuel. (I just thought that was kind of funny).

Your #2 doesn't make any sense, since Ben was having a conversation with Jacob before Locke went to leave.

Does Ben know he wasn't born on the island? He has said more than once he was born there but we know now he was born in Portland. he was too old when he came to the island to not know you'd think?

I thought right before Ben shot John he confessed that he lied and that he wasn't born on the island.

Oh and one other thing that has been bugging me.

We see all of these "Stars" from Lost show up at award shows and in tabloid magazines. However there is one key guy that we never see and it's bugging me.

I'm talking about the "Dharma Initiative Video Guy". Even though he is only in the videos shown in Lost he is still an Actor. This guy deserves more recognition. His acting is top of the line. He deserves to be standing on the stage with the rest of the Lost Cast as they accept their Golden Globes.

I think we need to start a petition for "Mr. Dharma Initiative Video Guy" or at least get him a Bud Light "Real Men of Genius" commercial. Where would we be without "Mr. Dharma Initiative Video Guy"? I will even take a stab at it:

Here's to you Mr. Dharma Initiative Video Guy

chorus: Mr. Dharma Initiative Video Guy

When everyone is wearing black after Labor day,

You choose to wear your white Dharma Initiative Overalls

chorus: Don't wear white after Labor Day

You show up randomly in bizarre Lost episodes

Telling us what we should and shouldn't do on the island

Yet you haven't told us how to get off this island

chorus: I want off this stinking Island.

So here's to you Oh master of the Obscure Dharma Video

Because even with you we are still completely Lost

chorus: Mr. Dharma Initiative Video Guy

Was he having a conversation or was he faking it? During the beginning part of the "conversation" Ben acts as though Locke forced him to go meet with Jacob. However later Jacob asked Locke for help.

Now if Jacob was really against Locke being there, why would he suddenly ask for his help?

Ben as we have learned is a master at manipulation having people do whatever he wants.

Just to add another topic to the discussion...

Does anybody have any idea who "Annie" is? She seemed to have a big role during the Young Ben scenes, but they never established that she was killed by the gas attack.

One WAAAAY out there thing I was thinking about was that Annie is Danielle and that the whole French scientist thing was a story she told to Sayid, and not true. Now, I have nothing to back that up other than the fact that we see Ben have a childlike relationship with this little girl, and then Alex makes an appearance in the present time. AND the idea that Annie and Danielle are closely related names in sounds and spelling. Maybe Danielle is the last remaining person on the island loyal to Dharma, which is why she is against the Others and a reason that Ben took Alex back.

A reach? Probably.
I believe that, but she could've been a scientist too. I mean, they did say they were doing experiments so maybe her parents and later her were scientists. And she probably is French. :p

Since Ben cared about her maybe she let her know what was happening or asked her to meet her somewhere so she wouldn't be in harm's way. And the "sickness" she talks about could be the gassing.

If you think she might be Annie, then where does the French accent come from? Because Annie did not have the accent.

Here's a thought--where is the Danielle flashback?? :D

Why was Danielle getting dynamite from the Black rock in the last episode? I think she is planning her own attack on the others to get her daughter. It would be just awesome to see her flashback.

I don't know how I feel about Ben's conversation with Jacob. I probably need to watch it yet again. Clearly he believes Jacob is there because when everything started shaking he reached out and tried to stop him. Yet it's obvious that if Ben can talk to Jacob and hear what Jacob says back it is not audible to everyone. Locke could not hear what Jacob was saying to Ben (if you believe there was a conversation there), and Ben couldn't hear what Jacob said to Locke. Just an incredible show.

I suspect that Jacob is somehow able to figure out what is in people's heads and make them see things. I also wonder if he has some sort of control over the black smoke.

Joe
