Luck would not be able to sign a contract now, in March, April, June, July, doesn't matter.

Players drafted this year cannot sign a contract until the new CBA is negotiated.

All the draft does this year is give you the players rights until the point comes you can give them a contract.

Bingo! Does anybody know how many of the top NFL QB's in the league right now actually left school early. Because of the top of my head, most of the good ones are four year college players. It seems to me that staying in school for a QB may be the most "non-moronic" decision when it comes to being a successful NFL QB.

I've already adjusted my initial response to be m=limited to this decision.

I wasn't thinking about you when I made that post.

so what? Let's remember you're making this point the next time you have a criticism of a pro athlete. You know, because they're way better at their sport than you'll ever be.

I get upset when the team plays badly. And, I comment on performance and compare that between players. But, I never say an NFL player is a "moron" at football. They are all awesome at football to even make it to a training camp.

Sam Bradford got $78,000,000 for a 6 year deal with $50,000,000 guaranteed.

Luck would get $82,000,000 for a 6 year deal with around $55,000,000 guaranteed.

New upcoming CBA will say otherwise.

Bradford will go down as the last player to receive the benefits of no rookie wage scale in the NFL.

His parents are also far from dumb, his Dad is a Rhodes Scholar isn't he?

Many of those criticizing Luck on here wanted the Cards to lose to have a shot at drafting him.

What CBA? The other one expires 3-4 it is essentially irrelevant to his decision.

lol. I said, New CBA, who knows. We don't know what the new CBA will be like. Until we do, it will be a mystery. He is certainly taking a big risk no matter which CBA is used.

Until the last day to declare goes by, I'll stand by that decision too.

He can be a structural engineer the rest of his life. He only has a limited window to be an NFL player.

OK he might be a moron. ;)

Even though 2011 draft picks cannot sign a contract until the new CBA is negotiated the rookie wage scale may not go into effect until 2012 regardless.

NFL network reporter Albert Breer tweeted that college players last year were told no wage scale in 2011 if they chose to go back to school.

You guys are crazy he is sitting with a winning lotto ticket in his hand or go back to school and take a chance it's no good in a year. So dumb it's not even debatable Stanford is not going anywhere he can finish his education anytime especially if he is filthy rich! Ask leinart if he should have went back hell no if he would have came out he goes one and is filthy rich and probably starting for miners still!

Again, Leinart stayed at USC because he'd had elbow surgery and was afraid his stock had slipped. he denies that but then he initially denied having the surgery.

Sure but one more year doesn't close that window. He's got a limited window to be a kid in college too.

People always say what if he gets hurt, how often has that really happened? There are a few but it's not like it happens every year.

He'll lose a year of salary and maybe there's a rookie wage scale, he'll still make a ton of money when he signs and at some point down the line if he's as good as EVERYONE thinks he is, he'll get a new deal either an extension or a 2nd deal that will dwarf what his first one was.

My argument is that in sports where you go is absolutely HUGE. Alex Smith first pick overall, Aaron Rodgers went what 26th? Rodgers in a stable organization where he could learn first and he's now a brilliant QB. Smith to a totally unstable organization was thrown to the wolves right away and failed.

I think Rodgers would be better no matter what, but he'll also end up earning more money in his career than Smith will, if you are THAT good you get rewarded for it in the NFL.

Moronic decision based off of the CBA in place. New CBA, who knows.....

His parents are well off. He doesn't exactly need his degree to get far in life. He could potentially lose out on 10's of millions of dollars by not declaring.

What does he have to gain by not declaring now? A national title is about the only thing I can see.

The risk/reward in this scenario is heaving weighted in the risk category. He can always go back to school once his career is over.

Maybe it's worth it to HIM for another year of contentment. You can't put a price on quality life experience. I'm also guessing the strength and wisdom he has in making such personal decision in spite of so much pressure to do otherwise is also what makes him tick as an athlete. You wouldn't want to change that.

Funny how mature behavior and decisions scramble the minds of the immature

Tell me how him going back to school is the more mature decision?

Edit: I don't see how one decision vs the other has anything to do with maturity.

Because he is not just thinking about money? Most kids have one thing on their mind(money), he didn't, he seems more like Peyton everyday who gave up being a #1 pick one year in order for a chance at a Heisman and Nat'l Championship and because he genuinely loved Knoxville & the college experience. Are you going to say Peyton wasn't "mature"? He was probably the most mature QB to come out of college football ever. I am thinking Luck is more similar to Manning then Leinart.
