Yeah, Marion as a Sun next year is absolutely NOT an option....

Edit: (response to Cheese's post)

unfortunately, it is an option... it's just one that causes me great worry that a) a fractured team won't be able to rise to the challenge and b) that Marion will inevitably go into Tortilla mode come the most important playoff series of the year, like he has for the last three years.

For the life of me, I can't understand why BOS wouldn't be COMPLETELY appealing to Marion! I mean, with them giving up only #5, Ratliff and a role player and adding Marion to the mix, they would presumably be able to run:

West-Pierce-Marion-Jefferson-Perkins

Are you kidding? That is a REALLY good lineup and I would pick them as a top 3 team in the East. Marion has a prior relationship with Ainge as well. What am I missing?

My guess is that he's a Vegas guy living in Phoenix--I'm thinking it's the city itself that turns him off.

You're right. It's a terrible option and it's an option the Suns need to do everything in their power to prevent that option from becoming real....

S&T for Lewis?

S&T for GWallace?

Marion HAS TO go....

Not sure where you're coming up with that... The only thing Marion has done is say that he doesn't want to go to Boston or Minnesota. That's it. If the deal falls apart, we'll probably never know whether it's because of Marion, or because the Twolves never backed down from their Amare demand, or the Celts not wanting to give up Jefferson, etc...

1) That's exactly why I thought of GS as an option (how about SAC?)

2) Isn't BOS as close to Atlantic City as Phoenix is to Vegas?

1) Sacramento is probably the only Western city he wouldn't want to go to. ;)

2) I don't expect Shawn is smart enough to read a map to see that.

I love the player, but man, he's pretty dense. Like Mike Bibby dense.

I love that Shawn Marion talks openly about wanting to be a more important part of the team and a top scoring option. Yet, when he gets the chance to go to Boston to be that player he doesn't take it. Sure, Boston is not a good team, but no team with him as the top option will be.
Reminds me of the Groucho Marx quote from a long time ago, "I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member." :D

If marion screws this up, i'll be willing to do anthing for marion, hell marion for bin laden.

Osama has some height and I'm sure he has a better jumper than marion. On the downside, is his age, kidney problem, and the fact he is a murdering bastard.

dude, if he could take out the two towers in NY, he could figure out a way to take down the single tower in San Antonio.

sign him up!

(if the above offends anyone let me know and I'll remove it).

He'd be the 2nd most hated player in the NBA and could maybe learn from watching Bowen how to execute a sneak attack.

I wouldn't say I'm offended (I don't offend very easily)...but I will disagree.

He managed to take down two buildings, four airplanes and murder thousands...but last I checked, we're still the most powerful, successful and God blessed country in the world. :)

Now back to our regularly scheduled KG trade talk. ;)

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of the Suns having someone that knows how to retaliate.

I don't think Marion is being dumb here at all.

IMO what he's looking for is a Suns championship next year, so he can opt out and hold them up for a huge contract. And if he has to go, but can control where he's traded, Marion can use that as a kind of pre-free agency, to try to get some team to agree to something under-the-table as a condition of his 'agreeing' to go there.

If nothing else, I'm sure Marion would prefer to be in Phoenix next season, despite his bitching. How many teams will be ready to compete for the championship right out of the gate next year? How many point guards can throw a 50-foot alley-oop to him on the dead run? (Two and two.) He's not going to do better anywhere else, and he probably knows it.

Plus, Marion has been dealing with rumors ever since he signed his current deal...not that he'd feel a lot of loyalty to the front office in any case.

If Ainge really likes Marion, maybe he can offer him a lucrative extension. I think Marion would have to feel pretty happy in Boston if they signed him up for an additional $55M over four years. And given the inflation rate of NBA salaries, he wouldn't really be that overpaid by the end of such a deal.

I'm hoping something like that happens. Ainge did give Pierce a 3 year 60mil extention last year.

Good point... If a team is willing to give Marion a good extension he will be willing to go there... I'd guess..
