I don't know if he'd end up doing all that but as far as being scared of him, no way, he made some mistakes and shot his mouth off but in the end he hasn't been proven to be some criminal.

He made some youthful mistakes and got caught up in a lot of bad situations but let's be real here, where we will draft if we do make the playoffs might be too low to get him. Should he be there past 20 I'd take him in a heartbeat.

A lot is going to be impacted on what has he done in the 2 years he was out of football, does he go to the combine/workouts in "tip-top" shape and how he does at the workouts. Has he been working out? How is his speed? What is his attitude going to be like? Does he stay out of trouble until the draft? I don't think that many will spend higher than a 3rd rounder but if the foreging all works out well he may be a steal in the 3rd round. I would take a chance.

No way.

Not just because of his questionable "character issues". He is injury prone to the max. Never was healthy in high school or his one year playing in college. I would not draft him or have him on my team.

I would. Then I would hire Emmitt for a year to be the kid's shadow and teach him everything he knows, particularly how to behave.

Lets put it this way. I wouldn't go into the off season thinking that Clarett would be our starting rb next year. I would like us to address our rb issue a with free agent only because there are so many options available. If he was available on the second day of the draft I would not have a problem picking him up. He has not proven a damn thing as far as I'm concerned except show a glimpes of talent.

I agree. I don't think I'd take him on day 1, but I'd be all over him like flies on shinola on day 2....even if we'd already drafted a RB during day 1. The upside of the gamble is you could end up with a situation where we'd be able to deal one of those RBs for some great value a couple of years down the line; the downside is a 4th round pick busts (and I say, so what--a lot of 4th round picks bust).

That might be a could idea.

Yet, somehow it just doesn't seem like Clarret deserves to have Emmitt as a mentor; future Hall of Fame mentoring future NFL bust.

He has as much ability as anyone. The only thing that could possibly stop Clarret is himself. If he gets his head straightened out he'll be a star.

JUST REMEMBER WHAT GREEN DID WITH MOSS..Green asked chris carter a favor.and he worked out with moss the whole summer.I think emmitt could the same thing with clarrett..Im not saying take him in the first, but lets say we have a extra pick the second or third..why not take a gamble..the Bills did...with mcghee...I would go for it..in the 2nd or third

Absolutely...unfortunately what I am not willing to do is gamble to hope he'll be there in the 4th round and end up losing out on a number of quality running backs only to be left with nothing next year...

Ronnie Brown is the guy in the middle of the first.

Great draft picks, but not gambles. They were both projected to go higher than they did.

If we get Alexander that accomplishes 2 things. 1. it gives us a top notch running back and 2. takes away a key part of a division rivals offense.

Negatives: Vets cost more than rookies, even the bonus babies. While I don't mind paying a lot for a great player I'm nervous about giving runningbacks big contracts because they age faster than guys at other positions.

If we can get Alexander at a good prize I'd be ecstatic. If not we take one in the draft.

I agree; and I'd even add a third thing to that list of accomplishments--it frees up an early round pick for another position. If we get a FA RB, we can spend our 1 and 2 picks on CB and OL or TE or S or *gasp* QB.

Moss slid because of character issues, same with Sapp. On the flip side you have Laurence Phillips. Of course Clarret's problems aren't girlfriend beating or drugs, just being a *******. I don't see him as a huge risk. It's not like he has to take classes to be eligible for the NFL and as a pro he's supposed to accept pay.

I'll tell you what, watch Ohio State's putrid offense this Saturday against Michigan. Then remember Clarett got this offesne to the National Champioship beating Miami(Wally you remember that don't you :p ) and ran for 1200+ yards and 15 TD's.Talent is aboslutely no question with Clarett.I'll give you the questions about durability but he's fresh and older so his body is able to take on more hits.Like is said in a different post,i don't think it's character issue with him as much as stupidity issues. When it comes to football knowledge, however,he is not stupid.
