I would give him a two year 20 million deal too. The truth of the matter is that he is only going to play one more year anyhow.

Fans are funny. Matt Cassel is making almost 15 mill this year, why you guys are shocked by this bewilders me. I dont want to pay it, but I am not mad at him for wanting it. It is really still less than fair market value for his services IMO. The guy doesn't owe us anything.

Why are people shocked? Well maybe because the economy sucks **** right now and hearing these athletes want multi millions to play a freaking game?

This is ridiculous.. This just aint directed at Kurt but every players agent and the player that cosigns their agents actions.. If I had millions of dollars like Kurt and didnt have to report to a job that is paying under 100K a year, I too would be out there building playgrounds and all that jazz and winning the Walter Payton Award for Humanitarism.. Dont get me wrong, I think Kurt's a good guy.. But he has a lot less stress and free time to achieve those things..

True...the sad thing is, Warner is the exception, not the rule.

What does that have to do with the prices of nectarines in Nicaragua?

The economy has been tough on everyone and is going to continue to be tough. Kurt has seven kids, one of which requires a ton of money in therapy/doctors visits and whatnot. He has to look out for his own in this whole mess. I think people fail to realize that he hasn't made nearly as much money in his career as one would think. He knows he can get 8 million or he can get 10 million, so why not take the extra two? Those few million will be entirely irrelevent anyway because the Bidwills never spend the full cap.

I agree with almost every letter of this. Trying to pat these guys on the back for helping some kids put together a swingset just before they fly off to the Carribean for a month is ridiculous. Kurt IMO, though does do a ton for his community.

We start low, they start high and then everyone meets in the middle.

Which is exactly what will happen. Warner's agent is setting the bar high with every inention of winding up in the $12M range.

For the way Warner has played and the chance to return to the Super Bowl, that's a very reasonable ($12M/year) salary.

Also, let's not forget that at $5M this year he put in a $15M performance. He deserves his fair share of next year's pie.

I knew Matt Cassel getting franchise tagged would completely screw up negotiations.

Well I guess if players agents keep wanting more money they will price out people when there are being layed off and just worrying about a house and food.. They will not go to games anymore.. Wont buy anymore jerseys.. Its a ripple effect both ways.. But you must be a millionaire.. Sorry.. Lets go down the road of Rome.. That worked out well huh..

I am starting to think that players/agents ask for more money because ticket prices etc are higher, not the other way around all the time.

Exactly. Collective bargaining and the salary cap are based on the health of the NFL. The players want and deserve their piece of the pie. Whether our favorite team wants to pay it, is another story all together.

Yeah that's kinda alot. He should know we need to sign other core players. And I thought he said something about wanting Q to stay. He was great last year but man, I thought he would stay in AZ for lower price than that so we can keep our team in tact and go for SB again this year.

Overpaying our QB after our last playoff run worked out GREAT!

Bad example. Cassel was franchised, and 5 mill more then Brady makes a year.

Should Suggs also be looking for a 17 mill a year deal since thats what it will cost for Peppers and his franchise tag?

I also call into question the report in the first place. Why report such a wide margin in what each side is asking for. I will tell you why, Clayton doesnt know the actual specifics so he is giving such a wide range(12-16?) of what each side is asking for gives him the ability to say "see I was right" in the end. Clayton is the opposite of his NFL partner Mortenson. Where Mortenson will make specific "without a doubt" rumors that are usually wrong Clayton will give vague information so he can never be wrong.

I mean really they met for the first time today, and it wasnt a long meeting with Graves being at the combine and all and they already went through a wide range of values ranging from 12 to 16 mill.? The report is crap.

At 12-16 million per year for Warner, Matt Leinart starts looking a lot better as a starting QB. Maybe I should go buy one of the discounted #7 jerseys all around town. 12-16 is laughable for a 39 year old QB.

Another item of note that Claytons vague info should be taken a step back from.

What does this 12-16 mill really look like. Is it 8 mill in base salaries but he can make another 8 mill in incentives if we make it all the way back to the super bowl again, 8 mill that wouldnt count against the cap until the 2010 uncapped year by the way. Or something similar. Or is it just 16 mill straight up.

Whatever contract he signs will be partially make-up money. Warner's been at the $4-6M range the last few years and it isn't a shock that he would want to get starter's money now that he's earned the job.

Guys like Hasslebeck, Garrard, Bulger, Delhomme, etc. all made a LOT more than Warner last year and didn't even approach the individual or team success. The past two years, Warner hasn't even earned top 15 money. Few have thrown as many regular season TD's in that timespan and none have thrown more overall.

$10-12M is still going to be a relative bargain and won't keep the Cardinals from retaining anyone. Dansby's already tagged so he's here. Boldin is a crapshoot either way and I don't think the extra 1-2 million everyone wants to shave off of Warner's deal is going to affect whatever long term contract they have in mind for Boldin.

It's ridiculous to think that Warner should be the one to pay for the team's mistake with Leinart's contract.

I think Warner should fire Bartlesman and hire you.

Huh?

Warner's contract and Matt's have nothing to do with the other.

Matt's bonus isn't due until another season from now. It is currently irrelevant.

The question is putting 12-16 million into an old and aging QB who may or may not have caught lightning in a bottle last year, will be a year older and health will be of a concern.

8-9 Million is perfect, IMO. But no more. 4-8 million more can do a lot of lifting in free agency.

I don't think an Irish lawyer would fare nearly as well as...well, you know.

I don't think Warner will end up demanding anything near the $16M pricetag that has everyone up in arms. $10-12 is what will transpire. Just like expected. Make him a decent offer that is starter's money and he'll take it.

Ya gotta love how fans get all up in arms during negotiations. It's business. Agents ask for a lot. Teams offer a little. And eventually they meet in the middle.
