why don't the cardinals give most the money to warner in incentives..that way if he earns it then fine, he gets what he deserved..if not, he still gets what he deserved

I'd be willing to bet Warner would be OK with 8 million but I can picture his agent telling Kurt that it would make him the laughing stock of the agent underworld if he just rolled in and signed that deal.

Because no agent in his right mind is going to suggest to his client that he sign a deal like that. Its all about guaranteed money nowadays...especially for a QB at his age.

I like the veiled threat from the agent that they will have to look into free agnecy. I say let them. If the Vikings want to give him 15 mill+/year then good for them. The Cards will be fine with Leinart as well. I think it's pretty simple. Front load the 1st year,10-12 mill, on a 2 year/19 mill contract. The Cards know he's likely done after this year so it's basically going to be a 1 year deal.

You can't blame Warner either. He had a great year and should be paid as such. It's not his job to make the Cards cap more manageable. The chance that Graves is taking, if KW hits free agency,is that some team will offer him a boat load of money and the agent will use that as leverage against the Cards. He WILL get huge offers on the open market because there isn't a whole lot else out there for any position much less QB. Plus, the Cards are very PR conscious. Losing Warner to free agency will bring negative PR from the fan base and media.

Frontload it, so if/when he does regress next year we won't feel the brunt of it too much the year after.

I think that Warner's agent is the most uninfluential man on the planet. I agree with Cbus's assessment. Front load a deal or no deal. If Chicago or MN will pay 15 per, bye bye.

There is a reason QB's make more on average then any other position. Elite QB's make top $'s. Warner is an Elite QB ergo should be paid as such.

The Cards need to decide whether ML can step in an play at a high enough level that KW makes his elite money elsewhere.

KW needs to decide if less money is worth not having to move his family etc.

I for one would have liked KW to have said "I want to thank the Cards for giving me a chance to resurect my career and therefore I only want $4 mill per year & nanny for the puppy I had to get my kids".

Realilty is such a bummer sometimes.

i honestly would have thought kurt wouldn't have had a super high asking price. i figured he would want us to use the money in other areas on the team. he is 38.

I believe the timing of all the bravado is not too great, The people paying to see the games are for the most part sacrificing something in today's economy. Are they entitled to try and get the most for their skills of course they are, but there is a point. I believe most of this is being influenced by the agents (duh) at least I hope so.

Exactely. You going to start an orphanage Kurt?
I don't think some of you are getting it! This probably has more to do with his agent trying to get the most money he can, rther than having to do with Kurt. I'm certain the two sides will come together with something in the middle. I still like the idea of 2 years for $20M.

Whatever contract he signs will be partially make-up money.

That's what baseball teams have done. Doesn't work out real well.

I say let Warner walk. I hear Whis wants to play smash mouth football. From what I've seen Leinart can hand off as well as anybody else. Use the extra money to get 3 or 4 more Running backs and a blocking TE. :D

at $12 mil a year, I agree. And I think trading Boldin for a #1 help us achieve this. Being spoiled by having 2 great WR's and a throw first QB doesn't help you run YOUR OFFENSE.

How many "pass first" teams have ever won the Super Bowl? The Niners, Rams, Pats, Pack '97, Colts '07 and thats all I can think of.

Did these teams win the Super Bowl?
Air Coryell
Dolpins (Marino)
'90's Bills (4 times)
2007 Pats
Denver 80's (3times)
Rams '02
Raiders '03
Eagles '05

NFL history says a team like ours doesn't win a ring. I love Kurt and want him back, but at 38 and $12mil a year. No thanks
